"Adore Me" is a good song, but, in my opinion, kind of unnecessary. It's about Linda's wish to be worshiped, her ego, and how she's worshiped by Wiggly's followers. The first one really doesn't affect the plot much, and it would only be significant to Linda if her character had a lot of development. The second is already seen countless times throughout the musical. As for the third, "Wiggly" and her scenes with the followers already speak for that part.

Duck Is Lord Yeah, I noticed this in a lot of the songs from BF, where they weren’t necessary in moving the plot or developing characters. Maybe it’s just Lauren’s solos and Dylan’s solos, but if you can think of any others…

What Tim Wants is definitely an aweful script failure. It's just use to repeat the exact same thing the characters said before, and it's create a very forced song. So maybe not the worst song of the show, but absolutly the worst moment of the show. And it's hard to not have that in mind.

Grand Bullo I don’t think it’s a script failure because even though you’re right and it somehow repeats what we already know, it help us understand Dylan’s character who otherwise seems quite cold at the beginning. I think it’s part of the character development and it shows us what drives him throughout the whole musical. I’m not saying is the best song there but I definitely don’t think is the worst.

For me personally, I feel like it gave me emotional whiplash in the context of the show. Like, we just met this character maybe fifteen minutes ago, and thus far, he’s been kind of a dick, and suddenly he’s singing this beautiful, raw song that doesn’t align with the established character at all. It doesn’t feel earned yet. Upon rewatch, in my experience, at least, it’s easier to bridge the disconnect because you’ve seen him drop those walls and be vulnerable about his grief and insecurities, but I feel like you need that moment, or at least more of a hint to the profound sadness that he’s hidden behind his anger, to give the song its full effect, and we didn’t get that. What Tim Wants is low on my list because I was disappointed by it, not because it doesn’t sound good (because it does sound good; Dylan’s voice is phenomenal).

I do understand how someone could think their relationship is forced, but I am absolutely in love with the fact that they both have done bad things, but because they’ve found each other again everything is okay. I’m definitely a hopeless romantic but I love that it stresses how soulmates will come together at some point no matter what. I just love it so much. They’re both so broken, but they can’t be judged in this small place with each other. It’s finally a safe place where they feel loved. Tom obviously loved Jane, but I think that he needed someone to take his mind off of her. It was obviously the only thing he ever thought about, and he kind of needed a distraction. Becky helps him realize that humans make mistakes, and that he needs to forgive himself to be able to raise Tim and continue to live his life. Okay rant over

It's comforting, but ultimately empty. Tom and Becky are still struggling with their heavy baggage but for a few minutes they can forget about it and just enjoy some affection "without the cost". Anyway, that's why TMB is the best. It's absolutely heart breaking.

You're right!! But I think the reason that a lot of people dont care for them and I didnt care for them at first, was just that they fit kind of awkwardly in the musical. Whether it's that they dont fit the mood or the pacing or whatever, the songs arent as good in context if that makes sense. I'm going to be totally honest: I didn't like much of the music in Black Friday. There was a couple of exceptions, but none of them go in my top 50 Starkid songs. Obviously that's just an opinion, but they weren't very memorable to me - For the first time, I felt no desire to go listen to he soundtrack after watching the musical. It might be the fact I'm not a fan of the lyrics in most Jeff Blim songs, or maybe it's the use of synth rather than traditional instruments in the band.

I agree. A big problem I have with Jeff’s music is that it’s not cohesive. Like with Twisted or the AVPMs you can tell that all of the songs are from the same universe so to speak. TTO is better than Black Friday and TGWDLM (and with TGWDLM it makes sense for the music to not sound the same because it’s all in universe but that makes Black Friday stand out more)

Adore Me has been done dirty. I have full confidence that Lauren is capable of singing those notes (hell, the cast recording of it is fantastic), but in live theater, you’re not going to hit every note every time, especially when it’s at a difficult spot in your range. The same clip of this song is used every single time in every one of the rankings I’ve seen, and it just happens to be a clip where the note falls flat, so that’s the biggest impression people are left with of this song, and that seriously affects the ranking. It’s been driving me crazy, because she is fully capable of absolutely killing it, and when she does, that song is a banger!

I thought most songs were fine (IMO some being hugely important in the story, Tickle me wiggly Jingle, Our Doors are open, Feast or Famine and Made In America.). I personally have a problem with Adore Me and What Tim Wants (bc they are unnecessary) and connected to that, with Wiggle and If I Fail You (cause they could have made a better impact). Even tho this four songs themselves ARE good, you have to deal with the context of the story. Then the other songs are pretty fine, is mostly character development or a character arc... or it's Deck The Halls (of Northville High) that is only made for fun, is not pretending to be something important. Then you have What If Tomorrow Come, that it's pretty huge (leaving a lot of theories, that bitch) and I think, pretty good. Feast or Famine didn't grab my attention at all when I first watched, and unlike the other songs in BF, it doesn't have the emotional power or crisp musical assembly to grab your attention and make you love it on the second, third, or fiftieth listen.
