Man, you had us waiting forever for the on water test (I think you were just building up the anticipation for us). Just want to thank you for all the details you put into your testing. I already purchased and have my Black Knight 2 quickly, for the popularity of your reviews have the effect of raising reel prices and lowering stock. It is difficult to see where the lures land in the water at times. So for us techno nerds please announce the distances more often. We trust your approximations. Again thank you for all your efforts.

Is there a reason you leave the plastic shrink wrap on your reel handles? I would imagine it would be slippery when wet and uncomfortable to hold compared to the foam or cork underneath. You can always seal the cork with sealer if you're worried about dirt and grim. Just wondering as I don't recall anyone asking before.

I caught a 5 lb Salmon yesterday on a 1/8 oz spinner with my Kastking Valiant Eagle UL casting rod with 20 Alphas Air TW. It casts 1/8 oz lures about 25 - 30 yards without thumbing. I used suffix 832 10 lb braid as main line with 8-yard 6lb fluorocarbon as leader.

I have the original Black Knight right hand reel and I think it is a fantastic reel! I have no issues casting down to 2 grams 🤷🏻‍♂️ with brakes at 3. I’m sure that the new BK2 with the even lighter spool is just as nice sending these light bfs lures a good distance. I’ve had my reel for over a year with hard fishing and it has handled great! Landing 5+lb fish with the drag screaming on BK reel is fantastic! 👍

I had a couple magnets left over from an alde bfs avail spool, and they fit in my left hand retrieve BK2…and it does appear that the ftb mechanism is backwards. I’ll go out in the next few days and report back how it works. I also have a left retrieve gh100, I flushed the bearings and didn’t notice anything weird about the brakes when casting heavier baits.

On the heavier lures I would use more spool tension.. Just enough to where the lure just doest fall and then start backing off the brakes, I find it can cast just as far on my combos because there is more control on the spool from spool tension. You had a video last year or so on the white quantum reel that had that suggested by the manufacturer and I have applying that to my bass combos all the way down to my bfs.

Good stuff. The big problem with all the knock off ftb reels I've seen is the moving magnet system (magnets moving closer to spool as spool speed increases) only works on the right hand versions. They seem to have copied a right hand reel and installed right handed brakes in the left handed reels (this fixes the magnets in place during the cast as it pushes down on them rather than tilting them upwards). Hopefully the fixed that for these reels, but given the poor track record of gh100, dark wolf, dark knight 1 ...
@Fishing_for_Fishies
@Fishing_for_Fishies 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting point. If they haven't fixed the issue for the left hand version of this reel, than could we assume that it would be even more underbraked? That's concerning considering the braking performance of even the right hand version
@piscamaniac
@piscamaniac 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fishing_for_Fishies Yes it would be more underbraked. You probably know this, ftb is shimano's version of daiwa's air brake (daiwa the inductor moves vs shimano the magnets move). The left hand gh100 was basically a magtrax reel, but not tuned to be magtrax, that was another problem. You could probably tune it up to perform better with thicker/stronger magnets, but at the end of the day you'll still have a magtrax reel.

Hi the problem of BK2 is the diagram & box specs. In reality this reel has 7 bearings and not 11. This is unfortunate as it affects the credibility of the product. I hope the manufacturer replaces the bushings located on the knobs with the bearings shown in the expanded view. I'm sorry my english isn't perfect

For me with finesse fishing, you don't need to cast a mile as most of the fishing would be done in the shallows or in close range. I've caught decent fish on UL gear in one foot of water and I only had to cast out 6feef in front of me. It made sense that the brakes couldn't handle the heavier finesse lures as the outgoing speed would be too quick. But honestly, after watching this, I just might buy this reel
@THEREELTEST
@THEREELTEST 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you fish. I went to Colorado for a trout fishing trip and all the streams I fished were crystal clear. The fish definitely saw you and went into hiding. Also I fish under a huge dam and have to cover huge amounts of water
@intensity.density2208
@intensity.density2208 3 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST yes I agree. Totally depends on where you're fishing. As for me in the places I fish at here in Sydney, it's all salt water estuary fishing. So I cast most into rock edges, structure, and at pontoons or wharfs - very close range fishin. I let the current do it's job and take my plastic where I want it to go. But there are times when I had to cast 40-50 feet to get to those fish. A reel being able to do that with no issues is a must have. After watching a few of your videos and Jimmy's videos, I've decided to give the Zephyr a try.

I know u mentioned the drag clicker in the last video, so I'd like to ask you a question about it. Honestly, isn't it a very rough feeling drag, or do you think I have a lemon? Mine feels horribly rough and im debating between opening it up and seeing if there is an issue or just returning it. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks
@Fishing_for_Fishies
@Fishing_for_Fishies 2 жыл бұрын
By rough do you mean that you can feel particles grinding as line is pulled out, or the line is pulled out in very defined clicks instead of smoothly? For the former, it is possible that the carbon fiber disc drag is shedding excess particles, which can be fixed with a clean and lubing the carbon fiber disc with some grease. For the latter, it's possible that the plate with the spring-arm that interacts with the click plate is overly bent outwards/tensioned. That can be fixed by slightly straightening the spring arm to induce less force on the click plate. For both scenarios, applying grease to the carbon fiber drag disc should help. I'd suggest that you try fixing it yourself before returning it, can't hurt. As long as you take photos as you go, it is quite easy to keep track of the placement of screws and components. I opened up my Zephyr with no prior experience (to actually make the drag clicker louder in my case), and it was fine. Just try not to turn the reel upside down once you've taken the side plate off as there are some components in the body that can fall out if you're not careful.

Could using a #2 line for the Trout Magnet casting test have something to do with the unexpected results (for me)? A reel that struggles with a heavier lure but handles a lighter one much better is quite strange for this old coot. Even your explanation doesn't seem sufficient to explain it all... Anyway, thanks for a very interesting video.

I mostly throw sub 2 gram lures with the knight on the cu double. I throw the 1/64 gram trout magnet jig more than anything for crappie,blue gill and bass. The knight is my favorite bfs reel and for the price and performance. The enjoyment I've got out of catching a ton of small fish, I definitely have got my money's worth. I don't own any bfs reel that costs more than 100 dollars, so thanks for the comparison for where the reel stands with some hight dollar reels that I will never own. I did order a bfs spool for the tatula sv tw but have tride it out yet. After watching the video I now know that this reel is well worth its price. Since I mostly throw supper lite lures, I'll have to save up and get the other rod you mentioned in the video. Could you tell me if you think the other rod is worth the price for the performance and durability you get vs the ace hawk for sub 2 gram lures. Thanks agin for the video.
