The biggest piece of information to be aware of as a Harley owner or Harley Buyer is that you do not want to participate in any government rebate dollars where they say they will give you a $5000 coupon on buying a new motorcycle of current year model if you let them crush your old motorcycle. They ran a program like this through the 1990s and the first 10 years up through 2010 and they managed to crush almost every old vintage vehicle that was still reliably running and people could repair themselves in their garage and be independent of finance companies dealerships and expensive computer based repairs. I am still of the opinion that it would be less toxic to the environment to reuse the vehicles that have already been built then to crush them put all those toxins into the earth re-process all of those metals and plastics and oils to make a new vehicle that will only last five years at the most and have to be replaced again. A long term study would reveal this but it does not benefit big government or big corporation pocketbooks it would only benefit middle and low income do it yourself motorcycle owners and riders. That’s why you haven’t heard of it. Don’t be a clone for their robot clone army, think for yourself.

Private jets, industry and every other country on earth pollute a lot more than a 2 cylinder engine. Besides if they stop clear cutting and stripping the topsoil them poisoning the ground to extract the gold we could fix it. Trees take in co2 and exhale oxygen. Go figure so cutting down the biggest source of oxygen on this side of the world might be bad trees sequester carbon. Removing it from the atmosphere. Hi Foo , sound saves lives, I know this is a slightly different scenario, but two weeks ago I was down in my local town, I looked both ways to see if there’s anything coming in traffic, I went to step on to the road I nearly got hit by electric car, Luckily, I had my wits about me, I think they are going about this in the wrong direction , As there is more things out in the road in atmosphere, that produces more pollution than what a motorcycle does, that should be their first priority, not the minority motorbikes, we will not be allowed to fart soon. We will need a pipe up by us to collect it. Perhaps we should save it and send it TO THE EPA , we are being persecuted because we ride motorbikes, And obviously we’d love our freedom, and we are being manipulated and being controlled by government authorities that are taking over the world and we all know where that’s going,
@GixxerFoo6 ай бұрын
They argue against us that loud pipes save lives, but like you just mention with the electric car they are trying to mandate that those electric cars need to make noise since they are so quiet!! That's our government for you! I hope you're doing alright and glad you had your wits about you!
@richardlee24886 ай бұрын
You hit the nail on the head about the electric cars being as silent as the grim reaper. I'm currently in Tenerife and it's the first time I have seen a section of road used by sightseers that has a section of sonic paving. Car tyres hit the section and sound like race cars. As for the restriction on new vehicles being the manufacturer at fault. Couldn't be further from the truth. It's called type approval. It's laws we have no opportunity to vote on. And the testing itself is flawed at best. Freedom is no longer a right.

NY basically shut the whole conversation down by saying, "no modification to the exhaust system will pass inspection". it causes people to FIND all those original pipes that were just thrown in the trash. there was word that they would not send out your new registration unless it had been inspected the previous year. that doesn't appear to be true since i did get a renewal on my '71 which wouldn't pass because of straight pipes. the inspection process is all computerized with the state data system and they put the onus on the guy who does the inspection who has to log in to the system. nobody will risk a $5k-$10k fine for a $10 inspection. some riders are finding ways to register there bikes in other states.

That's the attitude and the spirit we all need to adopt. Tuners will get unlocked, software will be modified, garages and back yard machine shops will open for business and we'll remain ungovernable. We just won't be able to order it online and have it delivered in some flashy box anymore. I will miss the stickers though lol.

swap meets are awesome and, I also could always get a case of beer for my dad to have him help me weld up a custom exhaust for the bike and just have to buy flanges and metal pipe instead of hunting down an existing set of pipes

Same thing happened the with new gen Yamaha R1’s. They “locked” you out of the ecu so you couldn’t tune them. Eventually the tuners figured out how to bypass it. I’m sure the same thing will happen with HD.
@GixxerFoo5 ай бұрын
Metric bikes most always were tuned with inline tuners like the Power Commander, but you didn't need much more than that if just did a slip on, full system and an air filter. My GSX-R1000 we flashed with the old brick of a Yoshimura box with the dials and swtiches, lol it was 2003.

2010 Softail Deluxe was a 96ci, now a 103ci. Very well massaged top end terminating in D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1. Came complete with one of them tuner dohickeys. 96hp, 108 tq. Guess I'll be keeping this one forever as a hotrod. Of course there's plenty of older touring bikes out there to add to the stable.

I am really concerned how much longer manufacturers are going to be able to produce no compliant parts for "race use". The big companies are already tucking tail to the EPA.
@purpletigerracing70875 ай бұрын
@GixxerFoo yeah,not sure what I'll do. One if mt best bugs is a HD Mastertech. He built the engine and tuned it. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a nicely modified older touring bike to start with. Maybe it even comes with its own tuner. Like my Softail. My Softail is a conservative build/tune. Still gets 40 mpg+. It's just quicker. Personally as long as the touring bike has enough ass to do 70 Mph, 2 up with luggage and merges ok, navigates on and off ramps etc, I'm fine with a conservative build/tune. I'm just not a fan of a few morons dictating how people can live their lives.

I am concerned they are going to come after the cams next, high over lap cams aren't exactly emissions legal but they make big power! That's why screamin eagle stuff is unimpressive is the cams have no overlap to be street legal.

What is the date the tuner manufacturers are required to lock the fuel mixture ability? Also I just decated my header using a hammer drill, and a boring bit with an extension. I also put on 41/2” slip ons that were too loud so I wrapped the baffles, and now it sounds just the way I like it. I would like to get it tuned. I was thinking about getting a Power vision.

Im trying to figure out who this actually affects? Even here in CA we don't smog motorcycles. If you managed to have a cop pull you over and ticket you for an aftermarket exhaust, you simply put the old one back on, get it signed off as being fixed, then you can put the aftermarket back on... at no point is there any sort of smog or fuel air map check.

They are going after the manufacturers to stop producing what they consider "race parts" altogether. The exhaust systems with cats aren't such a big deal in my book but the tuners being locked into lean tunes. That I don't really care for personally.
