After one of my therapist told my mother that I was suicidal she was really angry with me. It was like she took it personally. When we got home from the outpatient she kept asking aggressively/screaming at me if I wanted to kill myself and when I finally broke down and said yes she screamed at me "well then kill yourself!" I never opened up to a therapist again after that but she continued to waste money on therapy I wouldn't utilize & guilt trip me for it. She says i make up a lot of the shirt I call her out on. My environment was a big part of the problem and therapy can't enable a child to change their environment. I struggle with the idea of spending money on a therapist now. Even though I'm an adult the thought makes of me opening up to someone I pay to listen to me leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

@krisithemperor24105 жыл бұрын
@@mortuos557 except hope is not all that religion is selling you, It's basically a mind game testing your will, your personality, your knowledge against a series of stories passed down through either writing or tongue of people who bear witness to god's plan and were tested, some gained favor others not so much. preachers have no choice but to interpret these stories because the stories don't correlate with modern times and problems, so religion tends to manipulate people into it's service by offering this "hope" but that doesn't solve the problems that people deal with today at least not through medication, financial advise, etc etc. This you can get from a therapist although you can get it from a priest as well but it comes with all the lip-service as well. religion is only good for sidetracking problems, making you believe the problem isn't there when it is.

I noticed that this segment mentions Latinos in passing but doesn’t go into detail. This has happened numerous times on so-called diverse shows, progressive news channels, media representation and political representation. Ask any one of these proponents about Latino, Asian or Native American famous historical figures and they will draw a blank but expect you to digest only African American history as the representative of diversity. I can name 30 African Americans for every single Latino or Native American that they know. This is deceptive and raising your voice on these matters is important. Not very inclusive if you ask me.

I come from some pretty impoverished areas, so it surprises me that I have come across so many black male therapists and counselors in the past 15 years. I have PTSD from sexual abuse by my stepfather who was a black man, and for years I felt like a Terrible racist person because I had to change therapists 3 times because they assigned me to a black male after I explained that I have trouble talking about those traumas with someone who reminds me of my abuser when you have PTSD, even the vaguest resemblance of a stranger to your abuser can trigger flashbacks, but it is terrifying when the person triggering you is the person you are supposed to be opening up to about those things. I am a very kind and loving person and I try very hard to make sure that I judge people on their heart and not what the shell looks like. I wish that some of you were able to have met the therapists and counselors I have been assigned in the past, because they were wonderful people, I just was not able to see them due to personal trauma. Seeing this video, I can tell you that emotion recognition is a universal problem. As a species, we are afraid of emotions. We do not express them, we do not want to feel them, we do not want to show them validation. Culture indeed has a huge impact and smaller communities have bigger problems due to everyone knowing everyone. So, there are no therapists that understand someone's context, culture, worries, and then that someone is in a community that is given limited action to therapy and mental health care or is discriminated, that person may find it difficult to ask for help. I live in a small community and this is a huge problem. That was a very interesting video, keep it up!

@@LadyPinkster : It's different for everyone. People who fall into depression can be married, single, have children, grandchildren, are young, attractive, successful, or no money, have had a long history of depression OR no history of depression at all. In schools, we teachers would actually like to reach out to students with complicated issues but there is soooo much legal hurdles that if we're caught up in (despite our goodwill) - we could be fired or BANNED from teaching again - it's safer to make a note to parents who are in denial or a note to a student advisor who is also constricted. We'd like to take more direct action in our students' lives but the consequences for doing so are too harsh.

I find the following paraphrased ideas beneficial for coping with Anxiety and Depression. Focusing on the past results in depression Focusing on the present results in peace Focusing on the future results in anxiety Don't worry about tomorrow's troubles when you have enough to do today. Emotions seem permanent when we are experiencing them because emotions are intended to cause action and need to seem to be permanent. Otherwise, what else would stir us toward any action or goal? We know by looking through our own histories that emotions change constantly. Therefore, take heart and know that even though you feel permanently stuck it will subside. It always has and always will. It's just some emotions, environments, or situations that take longer than others to resolve. It always seems impossible until it doesn't. Its the same way with learning a new job or a new concept in school. You think "I'll never get this", but you do. I greatly encourage anyone suffering from depression or anxiety to find a professional: LPC's or religious leaders (many have formal counseling training). Also, religious leaders are free. If they are not free then you know to keep looking. It's hard to suffer from depression and anxiety. Your not alone even though it feels like it. That statement is cliche for a reason. Does anyone have anything else to add?

The Bible says you cannot possibly take on burdens by yourself, so it is way easier to give your problems to God and let Him handle them. Not specifically Jesus. It's more complicated than most people think. It is blasphemous to think that God cannot deal with any problem, because the entire point of believing in Him is so you don't make a god of yourself or any other person/object. An example would be money. Money can solve some problems, it can be a god to some. But God can solve ALL problems as long as you allow Him to. That is what most people don't understand. Having to do with mental health however, it is not a mystery that from time to time we need help from another human to help us analyse the flaws taking place in out lives and what connection mental heath has with those problems. It is not ethical to say that mental heath doesn't exist. There is a term we Christians use to refer to our earthly state: flesh. As long as we're in our flesh we will have evil thoughts and we will do evil things. But the self control and restraint to do them is what God admires. My point is, if you need help mentally, ask God to send a person who will confide in you and respect your feelings. THERE IS NO SHAME IN ASKING FOR HELP.

It is an unfortunate stigma in the Black community, which is SAD!! We need it more than anyone. The stress of racism is Real.

Trevor is so crazy I’m a young black male 19 and I was turned away from your video. Then it auto played it, I’m so shock how the professional can convey a great message though the relevance of the church. Honestly I appreciate your genuine relatability. Love to everyone on the daily show!

OMG the first thing that came to my mind after your statement is from the first Sister Act movie when Whoopi Goldberg got asked when did you receive the call? And she was like call what call? Whoopi Goldberg said I got the call! Oh I just wanted to share.😂
