Some people would ask "why bother? just play regular HL1 or Black-Mesa" Because, why the fuck not? Demakes are always an interesting experiment. To see how you can apply current-day game-dev tools, techniques, or skills to old engines like gld-src, to push that aging engine to it's limit. It's like getting an old classic car that was popular in it's heyday and making a project out of it.

I wonder what approach they will take in regards to Xen. As much as i loved Black Mesa, some parts of their Xen was amazing and others, the plug puzzles and factory was downright infuriating. I hope Black Mesa Classic picks the best parts from both Black Mesa and Half-Life.

A similar project I really liked was Half-Life 2 Classic. A demake of Half-Life 2 in GoldSrc. I did a few of the Ravenholm maps for it, but we just kinda stopped making it for some reason. I guess life got in the way? I stopped since I had a lot of stuff to do with college. I hope we can start it again. Or something inspired by it at least :D

It should be stated that this is being done within the custom Xash3D engine, not vanilla GOLDSRC. So they can get by with more demanding aspects with this project.

Black Mesa is amazing but I really hate the AI behavior in Source. I have always felt like the enemies act like moving turrets with auto aim that will drain your health if they manage to line up with you. So I really prefer the feeling of GoldSrc.
