@@conde_bathory No! Its just a satanic thrash band with a dark sound. That's it. Only their lyrics have anything to do with black metal
@seaofseeof Жыл бұрын
@@conde_bathory that's always been my take too. I'm not one to actively call bullshit on people calling them early death metal: they were an American band from the thrash scene from the early-mid '80s with a song called 'Death Metal' and gruff vocals. So, from a cultural standpoint, I'm totally fine as them having a spot in death metal history, and they did inspire a lot of death metal after them. And I think that matters. BUT, stylistically, I hear something much more similar to black metal. They had these ferocious, dark and hypnotic riffs.
@citybikesalex Жыл бұрын
It's like people who praise Venom's Black Metal album (simply because of its name) when Welcome to Hell was better and more influential, not to mention first. Possessed were important, but more for the Death Metal name than for any musical sea-change.
@myfaceismyshield5963 Жыл бұрын
Possessed had the first song mentioning "death metal" but it's kinda like how when Venom said "black metal"... yeah they said it first, but they weren't really making a new genre there. I mean Venom pretty much created thrash, but not really black metal as a separate genre. I suppose the "first wave" of both black and death is just thrash metal with a new label and only the "second wave" is a new genre honestly

Like most thing in the North, it's not really a Swedish, Danish or Norwegian thing, but rather a Nordic synthesis. Bathory-Swedish, Merciful Fate-Danish, Mayhem -Norwegian. Even Venom is very likely of Nordic ancestry due to Jorvik and Danelaw and it's proximity to Newcastle.
