Many people, me included, was confused about what's relationship between BaJie and the Violet Spider ( Spider Mother ), and what's going on in the anime starts at 30:24. I found one explanation that make the most sense, and like to share it here. - 30:30 Before BaJie became a Pig Monster, he was a general in Celestial Court. - 30:38 BaJie always fancied the Moon Goddess. - 30:52 BaJie ran into a maid in Celestial Court. - 31:04 The maid fell for BaJie, Bajie had some feeling for her, but still chasing the Moon Goddess. - 31:15 By following Moon Goddess, Bajie found out Moon Goddess is having an affair with the Celestial Emperor - 31:20 The Celestial Emperor condemns BaJie, and cast him into mortal realm, and BaJie became a Pig Monster in the process. The maid also heart broken. - 31:32 Wake up in mortal realm , BaJie meet Gao ( a character from the Novel ), Gao looks like the Moon Goddess, so BaJie fell for her immediately. - 32:09 Only BaJie found out he is a pig now, and Gao rejected him. - 32:25 Now fast forward to the event depicted in the Novel, BaJie join the group to retrieve the Scared Scroll. On their journey, they faced the Spider Yaoguai ( Spider Monsters ). Spider Yaoguai were beautiful women when in human shape, and they were bathing in lake. Letting his lust got better of him, BaJie transformed into a fish and approach them. - 32:51 Unknown to BaJie, one of the Spiders, the Violet Spider, is the maid from the Court She and BaJie recognised each other. Still have feelings to each other, they made out that night - 33:30 Turns out she pleaded to Emperor for BaJie, which angered the Emperor, and condemned her into a mortal realm and became a spider. - 33:52 After the night, the group wiped out the Spiders, as they are obligated to kill all monster they meet on their journey. BaJie spared the Violet Spider. The after is what happened in the game, Violet Spider hinted she beared Bajie's children ( the little golden spider ) , and although she hated BaJie and Wukong for killing her Spider sisters, she was always waiting BaJie's return to marry her. Bajie never recognised the little golden spider to be his, or he has any feeling for Violet Spider. Not because he is heartless, but because if he does, the Celestial Court will make sure they wipe out the Spiders. The difference between BaJie and Violet Spider is that BaJie is a general, although being condemned, he is still count as a member of the Celestial Court, but Violet Spider was a low-level maid, when condemned, she became a YaoGuai. And Celestial Court will wipe out any ties with YaoGuai. And Violet Spider understood BaJie. “Love is never about forgiving or getting even, it is never a fair game, it's about two souls woven together by fate.” Wise and benevolent words from YaoGuai / Monsters. Quite a story really. UPDATE: Thanks to @weidongdai8532 and @ichenhong's input, there is some mistakes and info missing in the original version I posted. This story makes more sense after correction. The correction are as following: - 31:20 The Celestial Emperor condemns BaJie, and cast him into mortal realm, and BaJie became a Pig Monster in the process. The maid also heart broken. It is during BaiJie's descent, he realised he only admire Moon Goddess for her beauty, but the Maid is the one he has true feeling towards. - 31:32 Wake up in mortal realm , BaJie meet Gao ( a character from the Novel ), Gao looks like the Maid (IMPORTANT CORRECTION, Gao looks Maid, not Moon Goddess), so BaJie fell for her immediately. - 32:09 Only BaJie found out he is a pig now, and Gao rejected him, and BaJie is ashamed of himself - 32:25 Now fast forward to the event depicted in the Novel, BaJie join the group to retrieve the Scared Scroll. On their journey, they faced the Spider Yaoguai ( Spider Monsters ). Spider Yaoguai were beautiful women when in human shape, and they were bathing in lake. BaiJie found out the Violet Spider is the Maid, and he is ashamed that he is a pig, so he approach the Violet Spider as a fish. - 32:51 The Violet Spider recognised the fish is BaJie as well. BaJie then showed her his big form, Violoet Spider accepted BaJie, and showed he her Spider form. They showed each other their ugly side, yet still fully accept each other. They made out that night. - 33:30 Turn out after heard BaJie's banish to mortal realm, the Maid wanted to follow him, she asked "what did BaJie became ?", and was answered "became a pig". In Chinese "a pig" has same pronunciation as "spider", so Maid think BaJie became spider, and she choose her banishment and became a spider. ( Now this hits me hard .... 😢) One more correction: "The difference between BaJie and Violet Spider is that BaJie is a general, although being condemned, he is still count as a member of the Celestial Court, but Violet Spider was a low-level maid, when condemned, she became a YaoGuai. " This is not entirely right. More correct explanation is : BaJie, when joined the Protagonist Group to retrieve the Scroll, became re-listed as a member of Celestial Court, but Maid / Violet Spider is considered as abandoned her immortality and became a YaoGuai / Monster. The Jade Emperor seems to be the source of all the trouble faced by the characters in this story. He had an affair, he condemned his sister, he slaughtered those living below him. Wukong was not wrong when he invaded the palace for the sin of them being assholes, in my opinion.

More powerful, yes, but can't tell Jade Emperor to do or not to do anything, some kind of cosmic law or karma,... it's complicated. So when Wukong was wrecking Heaven and no one can catch him. Jade Emperor had to ASK Buddha for help, otherwise he wouldn't interfere.

That spider sister who had been having all along the way, used to have some kind of special relationship with Wukong. At 9:06, in the Chinese version she called us “smelly monkey”, instead of “tell me”. Smelly monkey is actually an intimate nickname in Chinese. She’s helping us because she loves wukong.

@@gipsyavenger3969 In Chinese culture, married women tend to have their hair tied in a bun and wear simple clothing( as indicated by the outlook of the 4th sister and her mother who was married to Bai Zhe), all the other sisters let their hair untied and wear delicate clothes as traditional ladies of a noble family as they are unmarried. Another thing to note is when the Destined one meets the 4th sister for the first time, the head lanterns keeps shouting " Big day", but that was " happy event" - Daxi in Chinese translation, a phrase used to congratulate marriage in Chinese. The four chest - treasures that she told you about also indicated she was fully aware of our next destination - the Flaming mountain, as there are anti-fire items and in Chinese traditional marriage, the girl's house will prepare gifts for the man in the form of chests containing gold and silverwares or clothing, this is known as dowry. This could possibly mean that a previous version of the Destined One engaged with the 4th sister during his journey and intended to return for her after resurrecting Wukong, but received bad ending and the samsara of being trapped by the headband repeated for him. We is the next reincarnated version with no memory of that previous life, but the 4th sister remembers very well and supports us along the way. To be fair, the English translation also missed out a lot of Chinese terms that show love and affection in the 4th sister's words towards the Destined One.

It's an entirely missable, implicit yet heartbreaking story that could easily lead into a DLC. Firstly, there's no JTTW precedent to these 2 characters. The Destined One is not Wukong, and in JTTW, 6 out of 7 spider demons were killed, the surviving one being the old lady in Chapter 3. The rest has reincarnated. There will always be 7 spiders, including the little girl. So we know the Fourth Sister is a friendly. She saves the player thrice : when he leapt into the spider cave and got stuck in a huge web, she taking down the hand-for-a-tail boss and using it as a bridge, and finally webbing him out of the cave when it gets overrun by the hordes of little golden spiders. But as clues laid all over Chapter 3 indicates, the Fourth Sister is more then a friendly. Very likely, she is the Destined One's love interest. Before I go on any further, I have been playing the game in Chinese dub, so I am unsure how it is worded in English, so my interpretation comes from the original Chinese dub. It has been indicated repeatedly by bosses and chaff mobs since Chapter 1 that our monkey character is not the first to visit. It is also vaguely hinted that the Destined One is the latest in a long line of reincarnations, with the latest being the most successful one. When you passed the second shrine across a bridge once inside the Spider Cave, there will be a cutscene when 2 lanterns began screaming "大喜！大喜！“ or "Da Xi" which meant great happiness. The girl then throws a dagger and shuts up the lanterns. It's confusing, but then this scene repeats later when Pigsy is being led into a courtyard with all the sisters in it. There's another set of lanterns screaming the same thing "Da Xi!" when Pigsy approaches the courtyard. So we understood Pigsy is supposed to wed the old lady, so the lanterns recognised the groom. Right, in the English dub they were screaming "Big Day!" This hints that the Destined One has a similar status, that of a groom. 3. Same scene, the girl told the Destined One that there's some goodies beyond the gate and told him to help himself to it. Did you expect an ambush? Heck I know I did. But not only was there not an ambush, there were 5 genuine lootboxes, filled with good stuff. I was able to craft the entire set of armor with what I found in there. So, free loot without a boss ambush, and theres more loot here then anywhere in the game, all in the same place at once. That means the loot was meant for you. That was Fourth Sister's dowry, in marriage to the Destined One. But in the character's latest incarnation, he was unable to recognise the girl, but the girl, and the lanterns, recognised him. She has just decided to give it to the Destined One. 4. When she webbed the Buddha's Right Hand boss, as she turned away, she called the Destined One, "臭猴子“ (Chou Hou Zi), or smelly monkey, and ask him about the world outside. In the English dub, she only called him "monkey". In Chinese culture, adding the word stupid, of course with appropriate intonation and context, is actually a phrase of endearment. Not a strong case, but again, a subtle hint. 5. During the initial phase of the Purple Talisman side quest, she told the monkey to mind his own business. You could see from the cutscene that she did try to rip off the talisman, but hurt herself. She told the Destined One to walk away because she knew about his primary objective in Chapter 3, and it was not to free her. The purple talismans were placed there by the Celestial Court to keep the spiders there for their own nefarious purpose ( seems the spiders were toiling away for the Court, or something, Crane mentioned some business dealings ), so meddling with the talismans would make the monkey a target for the Celestials, and getting him hurt. 6. Her hairstyle was a dead giveaway. Notice all the other spider sisters had their hair down, but she alone has it all bunned up. In ancient China, this was a common practise as women have their hair all bunned up to signify their change in marital status. As you approach the final talisman in the courtyard next to the final boss fight, she screams "快走!" (Kuai Zou), or "RUN!" In the Chinese dub, that scream hurts. Kudos to the VA, you could hear crying and desperation just in that 2 words. She didn't ask for help, or rescue, but to someone who didn't recognise her as his bride, she just wanted the Destined One to be safe from the Celestials. As the fight with General Jerkoff concludes, the Crane Immortal appears and mentions that not only are you meddling with Celestial Court's business, you also hooked up with an arrogant girl. In direct translation from the Chinese dub, he said "Be rest assured, I will carefully turn her into a pill, and keep it for you. If you still want to create trouble in your next life, remember to come up and claim it." Game Science, I need that DLC when the Monkey trashes the Celestial Court again."

To translate the song at the end, the final line is: "In the next life, Male: I wish I had never met you 请别再回眸, Female: Please remember to meet me.请记得回眸" But regardless, this is the most beautiful song and amine I've seen in years. Bajie (pig), once a god and a general in the Heavenly Palace, was banished and transformed into a pig for insulting the Goddess of the Moon. In the game rewrite, before he was banished, he encountered Zizhu(spider), the youngest daughter of the Ruler of the Heaven, who developed a crush on him. ⁠@@vanada116 bajie wasn’t bajie yet when wukong fought the celestials (he was still one of the generals in heaven, in charge of navy so never met with wukong). When the bull king fought alongside wukong the first time against the heaven, they were sworn brothers. When wukong was killed(many years after the first fight), the bull chose to be on the side of heaven. He doesn’t want to be against the heaven anymore since he’s got a family. That’s the reason why wukong said the bull never made a good choice.

@@vanada116 When gods are banished from heaven, they transform into monsters. Just as Bajie became a pig, Zizhu turned into a spider, though they both once belonged to the heavenly realm. Bajie joined Wukong on the "Journey to the West" only after banished, not before. My guess he didn’t fight alongside Wukong for: 1. he wouldn’t have known Wukong would lose; 2. he tends to be quite self-centered in the original story. Purely my read - from the game rewrite, not the original Journey to the West: Out of all the bosses who got rewards for killing Wukong, the Bull King was the only one who was really forced into it-threatened with his family’s safety and his son’s true identity being exposed. He knew he was stuck, whether he joined in or not. The Bull King and his wife are super relatable to me because they’re just trying to figure out what to do to save their family, knowing full well no one’s going to help them for they’ve fulfilled the task of being white gloves

Apparently, she turns to be a pill by the Court as when we try to get the last piece of a hanging paper, the Supreme Inspector stops us and there's a talking Stork stops him to not attack us. Also, if you look closely at the cutscene where after fighting the Hundred Eyes Yaoguai, when the sisters are mourning their mother's death, the 4th sister isn't there.

Why this chapter's relic is a lotus seedpod? Cuz lotus seedpod in madarin is called "莲蓬"(Lian peng). 莲 could be replaced as "怜"(Also Lian), which means love and pity. Before Bajie was demoted to the mortal world, his title is 天蓬元帅(Tian Peng Yuan Shuai, Marshal Tianpeng). So the relic means "love and pity marshal tianpeng".

I just want to explain the background story of Chapter 4: -Baijie was originally a general in the Heavenly Palace, and was deeply in love with the fairy Chang'e in the Moon Palace. So in the animation at the end of the chapter, Bajie was seen chasing Chang'e, but accidentally bumped into a little fairy in the Moon Palace - Zizhuer, who fell in love with Baijie at first sight. But Baijie accidentally discovered that Chang'e was having date with another fairy, so he was demoted from the Heavenly Palace. -Zizhuer gave up her fairy identity and chased Baijie to the human world. She heard the boss of the Heavenly Palace mention that he would punish Baijie and let him reincarnate as a pig demon. But in Chinese, "turning into a pig" and "transforming into a spider" have very similar pronunciations. So Zizhuer chose to turn into a spider monster in order to be with Bajie. But she didn't know that Baijie had become a pig demon not a spider, and joined the journey to the west team. -In this way, Zizhuer waited for many lifetimes until Jinchanzi's team came to one of the disasters - the spider spirit and the hundred-eyed demon king. At this time, Zizhuer was one of the seven spider monsters. One day, BAIJIE met the spider monsters who turned into beauties bathing in the river. He turned into a catfish and went to peek at the spider spirits bathing. BAIJIE was recognized by Zizhuer. He was the general of heaven that she had been waiting for hundreds of years.
