I used to breed them in late 2000s. I have a video on here. Nowhere near as aggressive as a dovii or umbee. Dovii have big freaking teeth. Still 1 of my favorites.
@drip_got_kickz2 жыл бұрын
Must’ve bin a Cuban cichlid that you kept because this breed has same teeth as dovii and are known to be meaner than them my black nasty would destroy my dovii even if he was fully grown

Amazing I’ve dabbled in many aspects of the fish keeping hobby I’m hooked on rare monster hybrid fish losing any of my fish is a complete downer she did an amazing job with her exclusive pair just keep your head up and continue your fantastic job.

Don’t see these very often. There are times I wish I had a few monster size tanks for fish like these. I’d definitely try this one. Oh well, back to my plecos 😉👍

Some of these fish would be great IF most of us had the kind of space that some of these require bc these aggressive huge centerpiece fish take a up an entire tank all on their own. That’s a GORGEOUS pair tho, to be seeing the difference in size & coloring is amazing. I’ve never even heard of these fish I don’t think. They seem to be selling quite cheaply on eBay, & it looks like a male. Yea, I’m constantly finding new cichlids also & while it can be a heartbreaking hobby mainly bc in 1 word; DISCUS! It’s still a fun hobby for me & the good is still far outweighing the bad.

Hard to say if this fish will be more aggressive than the dovi I believe it is closely related to it but of course it could not defeat a full-grown almost 30 inch dovi around the same size who knows it's possible
@VoxGav-bd9rc6 жыл бұрын
markie mark If they were both 12 inches, it would be closer than most people think. But yes, if a Dovii was fully grown it wouldn’t be fair at that point.

Awesome video! I cannot decide which fish to house in my 110g. I have it narrowed down to a Butti or Black nasty. I love fish with personality and huge mouths. Lol. Which do you think is overall the better wet pet? Thanks!
@IslamicSunnahGuidance4 жыл бұрын
Keep black nasty cichlids, they do have so much personality and they are predators that have huge mouthes, they are really cool fish, i am keeping them in my aquariums, but they are extremly aggressive, they are like a parachrmis dovii, my black nastys teeth are very sharp, so they can kill other fish if they bite them !!

I have raised many pairs and currently have two breeding pairs. They have been very easy to keep and no more aggressive than others. I have kept them as low as 70 degrees but they seem to like 78-80. Where can I send you a video to?

@sondercichlidaquariums49516 жыл бұрын
They're great fish but the only thing is genetics. The last wild caught pair were in 2003 I think it was , same with Cubans, their catch locations are amongst the most dangerous in the world. Linzies male came from Andy woods, literally all the one in the uk are related to andys fish. They've started importing them from Germany but with no wild caught they become far far removed from how they should be. I always try to get f0 fish but had to settle for f2 Cubans . When some new blood comes in for the odos I'll be grabbing ten.
@andywoodscichlids29426 жыл бұрын
I believe the female came from me, but not the male. My males have black faces without the knuckle hump. That male was from Rob.
@sondercichlidaquariums49516 жыл бұрын
Andy Woods I believe from what I've researched there's literally only a couple bloodlines available, yours and a couple others.The female looks like yours , I'm sure this wasn't her big male, I'm sure she had a XL male odo? I think my pair may have originally come from linzie from what I can find out. I was told by someone in the business that the fish imported from Germany and the Czech Republic sold as odos are a Haitiensis X tetracanthus hybrids. There's a video of linzies of her juveniles and there is the most perfect small male amongst them I've seen in ages already with a nuchal hump. I'd give £250 for that male lol. If you have any small odos let me know please pal, don't really want odo from Europe that may not even turn out to be full odo

Little Kuhli loaches eating neons? Never heard of that. I would say you've mixed too many aggressive fish with fish not aggressive or slow eaters. The problem is..fish who are not of the same habits is what makes things fail most of the time. If you had Rope fish with neons...there is where they went!

@@VoxGav-bd9rc yes I have as long as the fish are of equal size dovii aren't the things out there....look up 5 spot junkie on U tube hit him up as well and see for yourself also look up beani vs dovii you will be surprised
@gregoryanderson23066 жыл бұрын
@@VoxGav-bd9rc and by the way don't think you ever saw a manueli or humeralis piranha known as Silver piranha they will kill ANYTHING you put in the tank and get well over 10 pounds 20 inches they will eradicate a dovii or any other cichlid you put in with them
@drip_got_kickz2 жыл бұрын
You must be a dovii owner my black nasty would kill anything in its path trust me any dovii not even full grown could beat a 7-10 inch black nasty and that’s not even fully grown
@gregoryanderson23066 жыл бұрын
That's my point you are mistaken size for aggression....and I seen Umbees on plenty of occasions say 50% of the time defeat a dovii....but back to your other point pygocentrus are shoaling piranhas....serrasalmus are not elognatus, humeralis, manueli and rhombus are super aggressive and the last three can get over 20 inches....I been messing with tropical and salt water fish since I was a kid and I'm 50 now and those four species of piranhas devastate any cichlid....and the whole debate was aggression if you can keep fish in with a dovii in an aquarium without incidents and other species not no matter the tank size then they are not the most aggressive fish out there....I had a 600 gallon with several golden Dorado, African tiger, aimara wolf fish armatus, and a red tail cat in the end I had 2 Dorado and the cat left and the Dorado constantly tried to kill each other I also caught and acclimated an 16 inch northern snakehead in a few weeks they destroyed him too yes dovii are large but but trust me there are plenty of fish that will not only chase them around but even kill them!!! And those pirahna species I mentioned research them they are hyper aggressive 3 of he species get over 20 inches and have the hardware to back their aggression and one last thing I love fishing done it all over the world I never heard of nor seen a 30 inch dovii....emperor cichlids, peacock bass some snooks pushing 28 or so....but the largest I ever saw was 20 to 22 inches just like snakeheads look up the world records NONE were 4 foot nor over 30 pounds....dorado get over 50 pounds and are an apex predator in South America cichlids and pirahna are dinner to them and they are born cannibals and aggressive predators from the egg....I enjoy talking with you though my friend good luck and happy fish keeping!!!
