Thank you for this! _The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda_ saga gave me something I've always wanted: Black Panther and outer space. 🌌 I overall enjoyed this run. I knew going in that this was Coates' first comic series and in an interview a few years back he mentioned that this is new territory and that he's learning along the way (some writers usually get a smaller project then are gifted/assigned the big names), so in moments where the story felt slow to me I didn't feel a need to be harsh in my criticism, because that would be unfair. I loved this run and that we got to see Wakanda as a place for other Black superheroes as well as the team-up. I loved the expansion of Bast and her/its lore, Queen Romanda, Shuri, and Nakia. Although I really wanted Brian Stelfreeze's art style and magic all over the _Intergalactic Empire_ arc (Stelfreeze with Laura Martin on the colors is a great duo), I eventually warmed up to David Acuña's artwork. I was happy to see Stelfreeze's return in the final issue. I adore Zenzi!! And hope to see her adapted into live-action in the near future (if Kiki Layne isn't a possible choice for MCU's Storm, then I would definitely want her as MCU's Zenzi 🤔; Kiki Layne's outfits, jewelry, and hairstyles were the only reason I watched Coming 2 America, tbh) I also like what Coates did with the T'Challa & Ororo releationship - their love is mutual, unconditional, and transcends the physical. These two iconic characters are on a different level. 9:28-12:10 loved that you emphasized this special moment in the video. I want to see more of the cosmic direction but with Brian Stelfreeze (or the duo of German Peralta & Sunny Gho, I loved the interior panels of _King In Black: Black Panther_ they did) and a different writer, someone that will play and have fun with that fresh element while keeping what Coates established with his final issue. Coates' strength imo is political and social commentary dialogue which is cool (this is why I think he'd thrive with a Captain America run) but I want to see more of the possibilities & creativity of the Black Panther and Wakanda having threads in space. There's so much to explore with that. The coronation / crowning was beautiful. Emperor T'Challa of Wakanda and The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. ✨

But what we got was a delayed slog, with a few cool set pieces. Glad it's over with now, and I'm looking forward to Ridley's run. He has more experience with comics, so hopefully the pacing issues that Coates' comic work suffers from won't be as prevalent. Still trying to force my way through his Capt. America stuff.

Here's what I wanted for the next issue of the up coming black panther, keep him as the intergalactic emperor of Wakanda. It doesn't have to be directly connected to Coates run, next give us more and advance wakanda tech, and newer race to explore to the space wakandian. Also show us newer mutants in space wakanda, new villians and space adventures. And I know political themes will be part of it so if I had to choose one let it be about colorist and how they can better themselves instead of the shade of their skin. Also great action and some chill vibes for T'Challa, last but not least give us Storm and T'Challa remarried with kids

Coates run so far is unparalleled. Coates is on level with Stan Lee and although it was frightening to imagine what would happen to Marvel Comics when Stan “The Man” moved on Hickman actually stepped in and recaptured our attention. Hopefully this new guy will do the same. As for Storm WoW and I feel as though Coates has started a new beginnings for our African Kings and Queens and Gods and Goddesses. To see Storm finally and officially transcend in power and adventure would be the amazing. To see Misty Knight become something more than what she is currently as well as Manifold, Luke Cage and White Tiger and not just be tossed aside. Both Storm and Monica has been pushed down so that Jean Grey and Carol Danvers could step up and even though I am a Jean Grey fan I have always felt like writers were scared to give Storm what she deserves because of fan lash back. Coates was unafraid. He gave us something to not only read but to feel. He set the bar....

@htownboss64223 жыл бұрын
He really didn't coates revolutionized the Black Panther brand just as Christopher priest did years ago. There hasn't been any other black panther writer that has brought this much to the Black Panther Mythos other than Christopher Priest.
@andretaylor26503 жыл бұрын
He had a lot of interesting concepts like the Djalia and the Midnight Angels but the cosmic direction killed the whole vibe with the pacing. And this T’Challa would get bullied by the Priest and Hudlin versions lol he’s not making plans or acting like a strong warrior IMO. He’s kinda meek. I need that Ridley run I think he’ll do better with the villains and T’Challa. A big supporting cast is fine but I’d like more focus on specific characters like Shuri or Kasper, they’ve been underutilized.
@rell1273 жыл бұрын
@@htownboss6422 Have to disagree Judkin brought alot and so did Hickman when it comes to New Avengers and Fantastic Four. With Preist he was allowed to do a reset but not a reboot, Hudlin was allowed to update Wakanda even a bit further. The problem is Coats allowed alot of talking, made Wakanda into Colonizers and savages, turned Bast into an insane cruel God. Then to top it off he made T'challa not want to be BP when every other writer has always shown T'challa wanting to he both king and black panther.
@rell1273 жыл бұрын
@@andretaylor2650 I agree he was well weak mentally and well emotionally. Both Preist's and Hudlin's would have certainly manipulate him for being so well meek and emtional. The funny thing is the cosmic direction should have been an easy lay up. Just basically a T'challa in space with a new suit, new ship , crew and ect. It should have been we see T'challa help the empire and figure out how some of turned to colonizers while other stayed true to Wakanda. We should have gotten new villians, new tech and see T'challa compare his wakandan tech to alien tech.

Part of me wants Ridley to retcon this run... I was really trying to like this run, but Coates is just not good at writing comics. Of all the BP runs Coates has the WORST depiction of T'Challa as a character.
@rjones61273 жыл бұрын
I agree Coates’ run has been hit or miss, but Vol. 7 is huge improvement over Vol. 6. All together it’s a lot of interesting ideas, but less than stellar execution. Most likely Marvel will not retcon the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda any time soon, especially since Al Ewing is referencing it in the SWORD book, which deals with space politics between Krakoa, the Shiar and Kree, etc. Probably in a couple years, they’ll do an intergalactic war storyline with Wakandan empire fighting the Kree-Skrull alliance and with Earth caught in the middle.
