Black Panther along with Captain America: Winter Soldier makes me wonder why anyone would want a Black Widow movie. There’s so many other characters who deserve movies that offer something new over her

Black Widow is more interesting in the comics than she is in the movies, they are doing a disservice to her character. She's cliche as hell in the movies, but it's owned by Disney, so what can you do.

personally, saying that chadwick as t'challa sounded so mellow is not really the case in the movie, the notion of him being king has not fully sunk in wishing that t'chaka would be there to guide him. he was so disillusioned of how magnanamous his father was until the reveal that he started to question his human morality and royal duties to wakanda he had a couple of powerful moments with Zuri and T'chaka so saying that chadwick is too melow is not really the case

Just saw it today. I didn't let myself get overhyped for this film like I did with Spider-man 2 (2004) & Wonder Woman which a lot of people loved but I was meh on tbh and I wasnt in the mindset of mehness like when I saw Justice League. I was just looking forward to a decent film and Like I thought it was gonna be ,it was a good movie. Nothing MIND BLOWINGLY Spectacular like some are making it out to be but still quite an enjoyable watch. I'd give it a Spill/Double Toasted Rating of a High Matinee. Enjoyable film Highly recommend.

I agree. My only qualm with the movie is that I thought that Michael B. Jordan character should have a more thorough telling of his ruling. I definitely felt that he was the star of the movie and felt that they could have anchored a lot off his character.

Question, when you say nothing mind-blowing, were you talking about narrative, CGI, plot twist, or action sequence? I ask that, because Spiderman 2, and Wonder Woman hype versus Black Panther hype...well...neither came close to having to carry the weight of cultural historical, fantasy, modern, relevant, generational gape closing. Religious obeisance versus secular reality. Us v them. Family loyalty v civil obedience. Sworn oath v personal ideology. Might makes right v not my fight. Malcolm v Martin. Etc...The Matrix trilogy covered every abstract philosophical theme known to man. The Black Panther covered the hardcore, grounded socio-political realities. All while being located in a connected Marvel Universe that Thanos, is getting ready to wreck with the infinity gauntlet, just to win the affections of lady death, or mistress death, madame death, whatever her name is. Adam Warlock will show up, and do something but I digress. Fitting the social political elements into a black comic book movie, whose very name "Black Panther" is still mostly associated with a black militant movement from the late 60's or early 70's, into today's divisive racial political climate, That's mainstream enough to break records box office records for the month of February (a historical Black History Month, I might add) and culturally respectful enough to energize nearly universal minority endorsement. Children of the Motherland and African Americans unified, is mind blowing. But that's just my opinion.

AutoRingMagazine Yes, that’s exactly what I thought. He was a bit underdeveloped, but that’s typically Marvels issue with villains
@shadysif6220
@shadysif6220 6 жыл бұрын
Also, Michael B. Jordan wasn't so much a literal Marvel villain, as much as he was in part at least, the literal representation of the "Black Panther" movement. He wanted to use the knowledge that he gained from the enemy(corrupt cops)against them. The Black Panthers (originated in Oakland, not a coincidence) legally got weapons permits and made it known they'd use weapons to combat police brutality, which was unchecked. Unfortunately criminal elements/individuals within the movement, as well as FBI infiltration and members assassinated by police officers helped to end the movement. Yes he's a villain on the surface, but his last line, about rather dying in the ocean as opposed to bondage is what a Zulu warrior(who'd prefer death in the ocean rather than life as a slave /Black Panther in a shootout with dirty cops would prefer) He wasn't a poorly written villain. He was a historical amalgamation of ideals, that can't coexist.

From what I know of the comics, Wakanda is a full-on xenophobic isolationist country, but T'Challa (Blank Panther) was more open to the outside world and tries to balance his country's traditions and his royal duties with that alternate perspective. I'm eager to see if the movie dives into that.

I must disagree. The movie CLEARLY stated as they watched the rest of the world descend into chaos & corruption, they chose to hide Wakanda in plain sight, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE VIBRANIUM. Not to be selfish. They, no doubt, saved the world with this decision because look at what happens when aggressors find out about powerful substances like vibranium. Also, be honest, if you lived in a beautiful, healthy, poverty-free, wealthy, crime-free, war-free, self-sufficient, etc., nation, whose leaders TRULY places the welfare of its people FIRST, would you REALLY want to expose yourself to the power thirsty, VIOLENT, warmongering modern world?

Aside from T'Challa's constant coolness, you do still have these areas where he really emotes and does it effectively. When he said "I AM YOUR KING, NOW" to Forest Whitaker, I got chills, and I really felt the scene in the ancestral realm and he was telling his father that he was wrong for the way he ruled.

I think that Black Panther is why Marvel dropped their Inhumans movie because they both would have too similar stories because they're both separates Nations with a king that would have someone trying to take his throne and Marvel would also have to have the outside world trying to get in to connect it to the rest of the MCU.

Im new to the double toasted fam! Watching this review in 2021 is so sad knowing we won't get to watch King T'Challa grow into his kingship. There's so much left on the table for King T'Challa and the way Chadwick Boseman played this character was just so effortless and elegant. It's going to be a void for sure if they don't bring T'Challa back or even if they do recast. I'd hate to be that guy. But whatever they do I support the cast and crew because BP is to important to let the sequels fail.

Matt Pugliese this movie stands on its own. The few connections to the greater MCU adds some extra value to this movie, but it's not dependent on it at all.

imo, it is a cultural celebration. with this review, my hope is that these 4 reviewed the film on it's own merit. one thing none of need is "oh they only gave it high marks because it's a predominately black film." jmo.

Thanks for the response, oneoone. You make a great point and my apologies for not thinking it through. A good movie should be able to stand on its own and I am forgetting this is the first time Wakandu and other characters in the Black Panther story line are being introduced, so that should be more of the main focus with the overall MCU still being tied (but not the main focus).

I think its dope that this is an all black cast etc...but what is key is its not some gimmick, no this cast and the director are all dope and deserving of this movie. Personally i feel people do this movie a disservice over hyping it because of this fact. Let BP be judged on its quality and not on the politics of it.

Loved the performances, love the costumes, love the stakes. I feel that Chadwick performance is underrated. To me his accent and mannerisms were excellent. B. Jorden was good but no where near as nuanced as Chadwick’s. I disliked the CGI and the choreography of most of the fights. To me the real hand to hand combat of Civil War blew these fight scenes out of the water. Just look at BP vs Cap, and BP vs Winter Soldier for examples. I prefer them over CGI vs CGI combat any day. Overall, love the movie.

JVMVRVR I think he probably means the full audio review. There is a good reason why Korey C. probably cut a bunch of it from the YT video (I will probably muster the courage to watch the video but I need to recover from all her nonsense from the audio review). Danielle is a fan and very fond of black people to a point of a being a fetish, while not really understanding the social economic intricacies that affect the African American community. That's actually fine in itself but it just leads to some cringe inducing moments when it comes time to having a serious discussion on the subject.

Sega Gentleman the movie portrayed Africa as not being the stereotypical poor, war torn region of the world. All the characters were not there for comedy relief, I wasn't afraid that the token black guy would get killed 15 minutes into the movie. I saw black superhero kids could look up to.

For those who 've seen the movie: We consider Killmonger as the villain. But is he really that bad as a character ? I admit that he has a lot of anger inside him, and hate. But why ? Think that he lost his father when he was a little kid. His father was assasinated by Wakanda's king. And this kid have never been to his home-country which was Wakanda. So that adult, was a kid who felt that life is really unfair, who had a lot of psychological struggles. Who maybe didn't receive much love in his childhood.. Bad people are not born bad. It's only that they haven't receive much love. And what can T'Challa teach us ? He was angry with what his dad did. But he chose to become better than his father. We can choose to not be as our parents. To be better than them. He also teach us to NEVER GIVE UP.. Even when Kilmonger had taken the kingdom of Wakanda, he came back, fought till the end and won.

The movie does really well in developing the relationships between the characters. The royal family seems like an actual family...especially the relationship between T'Challa and his sister. Too many movies - especially comic book movies - don't give us believable relationships (looking at you Fant4stic and BvS...and Justice League.) No spoilers, but there's a great scene between him and her that ends with, "Delete that photo!" You'll know it when you watch the movie. It feels like to siblings playfully giving each other a hard time.

Love from India! Black Panther is running to packed cinemas here and I couldn't be happier. We have deep rooted biases based on color and a Hollywood product that proudly celebrates color and is a success this massive should help my darker skinned brothers and sisters feel good about ourselves on so many levels. I hope it is the milestone that pushes for more diversity in all cinema. #WakandaForever

Sooo.. just came from the movie..have to disagree with some of your review material... IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!! I will most definitely go back to see this multiple times. T'Challa was not as stoic as you seemed to convey.. I won't give away any content but disagree strongly with you there. I don't think he was overpowered by others in the cast but there was definitely a strong ensemble..then again, so many top stars in the film (even ones I had not seen before) that it was inevitable.. but it all blended so well together. Agree on the ending, wish that had played out more.. but wow.. I've been waiting 30 years to see this and not just a fanboy, but even my wife, who hates comic books/comic book movies loved it!

QUICK SPOILER WARNING!!!!! Kilmonger should have had a flashback or something showing how he got his first scar. Like say he got it from killing somebody when he was just younger. That way people can get a better feel as to why he turned into the extremist asshole that he was. I felt like his character lacked major depth that was needed to make him more compelling than he was. I still liked Michael B. Jordan’s performance tho.

Though to be fair, he was able to replicate and miniaturise an arc reactor, in a cave, WITH A BOX OF SCRAP! and she does have access to the most advanced material known to man, but she does seem to be a lot more creative and is said to be the smartest character in the MCU so, yeah, they could cook up some seriously high-tech shit. I can't wait for her, Tony, Parker and Rocket to get together and jury rig some new gadgets.

I want to touch on this comparison between the trump administration and Wakanda. The *HUGE* difference is that the USA was built on immigration. Many European Americans didn't even come here until the early 20th century. Also, many of the people we are trying to keep out (Mexicans, for instance) have been on this land way before anyone else. Most Mexicans are descendants of Native Americans, they just fell on the other side of the border when they made them when the Europeans first arrived. Wakandans are natives of the land they are trying to protect. So different than a man who's grandparents who were immigrants and comes here and wants to shut the door on everyone else who isn't a wealthy European.

Roy Wright - First of all, it is the same shit in the end, Trump admin or Wakanda (which is a fictional utopia, can never be real) and you trying to sugarcoat in every way you want that Wakanda is better, it still does not change the fact about globalization and "our people first", which both places stand for. And the most important thing, what does a film has to do with REAL politics. Try to see it as an entertainment piece and nothing else. Thank you.
@dren5810

HindiRapGuru I'm sure some people can but all movies and art in general are political. Just because in this instance you may not agree with the politics doesn't make it's message any less valid. I've seen so many people try to bash this movie simply because they disagree with some of its messages and pretend as though no other film pushes political agendas. I just wish people could let others be excited to see this movie and if they don't want to partake in it, that is fine too. I don't understand why this is so difficult.
@bruceleeroy8302

My response is to people *actually* comparing Wakanda's society to America. I am responding to other people, get it? I haven't even seen the movie and not sugarcoating anything. I just know that the comparisons *other* people are making are nonsense by comparing the two worlds. Nothing you accused me of is what I was trying to convey. Thank you for your strawman response though. Have a nice day.
