Dio - as great as he was and his greatest power was in the lower register- Gillen's power was his excrptional range. He lifted up the higher notes of these Dio songs to stratospheres. Above no one else could reach withouth sounding bad.
@luamoliveira34672 жыл бұрын
@@peteroking Ray Guillan's version was very good but the version performed by Dio in Utrecht Netherlands is impeccable in my view and far superior in all aspects. Dio hits higher and sustained notes than Guillan in this version, impressive dynamics and variation of melodic designs with impeccable intonation, he hit a sustained E5 with extreme ease. The best version and besides being performed by the original singer.

Ray Gillen is that guy that could’ve bypassed so many singers that had much less talent. Many of whom became much more rich and famous. He got a bad hand in the game of poker (life) I’m grateful for Badlands’ first two albums. A New Jersey guy with the best pipes in the country.

Everybody forgets that Geoff Nicholls was the longest serving Sabbath member after Tony Iommi till he departed in 2004. Former members and insiders say he was Tony's right hand man and always the glue that held whatever format Sabbath was together. He never got the credit and very little praise from Iommi for it. RIP

He ranks next to Iommi as far as the Dio/Martin etc era is concerned. Also a lyricist. Before Headless Cross he was the only shred of continuaty aside from Iommi. He also supposedly did ghost vocals on this tour when Glenn was messed up. As much respect as I have for Iommi as a musician, he doesn't have personal loyalty for others. He's forgotten that Tony Martin exists if we need any more evidence.

Dio was another level of extremely virtuous vocalist and one of the best vocalists of all time for many singing experts, no one surpassed him in his songs and even Ray Gillen who was the only one who did justice to Dio's songs, plus the performances Ronnie on the Live Evil 1982 show and the Holland 1983 show are untouchable in terms of consistency and vocal perfection but Gillen was a monster vocalist and had great potential at that time where his voice was already beginning to enter its peak, just like Dio , he's one of my favorite rock/metal singers too.

I like this. Ray sounds like a cross between David Coverdale (the Plant-isms and the abbreviated phrasing, and how he hits the vowels on "on and on and on") and Ronnie James Dio himself. In Jake E Lee's interview with Delray Jake said that for the Sabbath stuff Ray actually tried to sound like Dio somewhat, but his true voice was on the Badlands records.

All my videos? Actually I have plenty of Dehumanizer-era vids, vids from the first lineup, vids from the first Dio lineup, the Born Again lineup, and from the current "Heaven and Hell". So its quite obvious I don't have any sort of bias with regards to Sabbath's lineups. Sabbath is Tony Iommi's band...it always has been. If you don't like this, then don't watch it and more so, don't post on it. Besides obviously you can't read because the title it clearly says "Ray Gillen vocals".
