This was Bill Ward's favourite track on the album. Bill left the band shortly after due to mental health issues.

This imho is the finest work off of any Sabbath album. Distinctly different to pretty much any other Sabbath song. Tony Iommi is quoted as saying the solo is his favourite of all time!!! Who am I to argue......really bluesy,almost soulful rock n roll . Thanks for the reaction.....be interesting to hear peoples thoughts as this is NOT what people expect from these guys.....hauntingly powerful.

Excellent song. Top drumming from Bill Ward as usual- one of the most underrated drummers ever. Nice jazzy octaves from Iommi (you're right Chris - 2 strings) and interesting bass. All perfectly produced by Martin Birch.

Tony iommi (eye-OWE-me), the lead guitarist and music writer for Sabbath, all day long. The vocal you're thinking of is from the movie "Frozen" (which came much later).

Check out their 1992 album Dehumanizer. Very sinister and heavy. Same constellation. Songs like After All (The Dead), Letters From Earth, Master Of Insanity and Too Late. After this album Dio went back to his own band and released the album Strange Highways in 1993. Probably the heaviest Dio album. Songs like Hollywood Black and Jesus, Mary & The Holy Ghost. Before Dio died Black Sabbath toured as Heaven & Hell. Check out Shadow Of The Wind and The Devil Cried.

Not a bad song, but my favorite tracks off this album which I have is, "Heaven and Hell" and "Wishing well". But relating to this album, one of my all-time favorites is from "Rainbow" featuring Dio. It's called Gates of Babylon. Hey guys you should do a comparison between Black Sabbaths "Heaven and Hell" and "Gates of Babylon" and see which song is more popular! Cheers.

These are my suggestions for Ozzy Black Sabbath in order: The Wizard from Black Sabbath Hand of Doom from Paranoid Children of the Grave from Masters of Reality Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Meglomania from Sabotage Dirty Women from Technical Ecstasy Never Say Die from Never Say Die I don't think you would have heard these tracks and would suggest listening in order. Have fun!

The keyboards at the end can be heard in the movie Frozen. Not sure if it was coincidental or if there was a Sabbath fan in charge of the music.

By the time this album came out Black Sabbath were so old hat that they qualified as genuine vintage clothing 👀… PLUS.. If RJD had been succeeded by say Kylie Mynogue would it still be legitimate Black Sabbath ? .. NO ! .. Once Ozzie went they should’ve reformed with a different name instead of getting legendary substitute RJD in , instead of legendary Heavy Metal progenitors this sounded like any Journey , Coverdale , Rainbow pish … sad , very very sad face 😞 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I'm not a fan of Ozzy's voice, so this is where I came in with Black Sabbath. This used to be one of my favourite tracks, but not so much now. I think it's a great song, great vocal, Tony Iommi is a great writer, but his guitar solos don't do much for me.
@a.k.1740
@a.k.1740 Күн бұрын
Same! I've never been able to stand Ozzy's rattling voice, so the Dio era was my real gateway to Black Sabbath. I also like the Born Again album with Ian Gillan and the albums with the underrated Tony Martin (apart from the lame Forbidden!).
@delorangeade
@delorangeade Күн бұрын
@@a.k.1740 I think there are some great songs from the Ozzy era, but I don't want to listen to them because of the vocals. I'm starting to warm up to Born Again, but I think all the screaming from Gillan was because his high normal range was already shot, and that was all he could do. I was a Dio fan and a Gillan fan more than I was ever a Sabbath fan, so I didn't listen to the band again until they came back as Heaven and Hell.

@@delorangeade Yes, musically there are good stuff on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage but for me too, the problem has always been Ozzy's voice so I always preferred to listen to Black Sabbath without him. Indeed, Ian G had already had problems with his voice in 1982 at the time of Gillan's Magic. I must say that with Dio I am not very fond of Dehumanizer which has a sound too metallic and cold and then I find Dio's way of singing too insistent and tiring on this album.
@delorangeade
@delorangeade Күн бұрын
@@a.k.1740 I think Dio was vocally in decline by then, or at least he had adopted a style that was more growling than singing, I thought it was lazy and I didn't like it. I thought Ian Gillan often struggled when Deep Purple reformed, but I thought he was very good on his Naked Thunder album.
@a.k.1740
@a.k.1740 Күн бұрын
@@delorangeade After Born Again I could never get used to Ian Gillan's failing voice, which is why I didn't like Purple's return in 84, and musically it wasn't exciting (very MOR 80s rock). Anyway, I can listen to all the earlier Purple records, the IGB and Gillan! 😉

If you stopped listening to Sabbath after Ozzy left, you have left decades of great Tony Iommi riffs unheard. As long as he was on the album it was worth hearing, top 10 guitarist in my 50+ years of listening to him. Sabbath or not, it is killer.
