Regarding the coughing in the intro, Tonny Iommi:"I choked me bloody self! It wasn’t intended to happen, and it wasn’t supposed to be on the track. We were in the studio tracking that song, and Ozzy gave me a joint and I nearly choked myself. The tape was on, so of course they wanted to use it to begin the track."

Generally, the early sabbath was Iommi: riffs, Geezer: lyrics, Ozzy melodies, Bill: doing his thing on the drums. Truly a team effort. Hardcore fans correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve also heard Tony Iommi say that Ozzy sang to the riffs, while Dio sang to the chord progressions...
@dellapasquagraphics4 жыл бұрын
That is correct! Cheers!
@manmoth_19904 жыл бұрын
That's definitely right on some tracks, like "Iron Man". Ozzy literally just sings the melody from the riff over the riff itself. But not always the case. I think Ozzy just made up a melody on some songs, or the melody was just born out of the band jamming some shit down and Ozzy bringing a lyric sheet and going nuts with the band.

4:46 Ozzy comes up with the vocal melodies when they are jamming / working on the song. He would sing random phrases off the top of his head to find a cool vocal idea. Then, I believe Geezer would often be the one to craft the actual lyrics around the melodies that Ozzy created.

This. If you get the deluxe edition of the Paranoid album they include a version of that very track where Ozzy is just singing words of the top of his head to get the melody down. It's really cool to hear and gave me a whole new level of respect to his input to their early songwriting process.

Loving all this, Sabbath is possibly my favorite band of all time. Their guitar sound is partially due to Tony Iommi losing his fingertips in an industrial accident when he used to work in a factory. he loosened the strings to make it easier to play and it added to the "doom" sound. The killer riffs are almost all Iommi, Geezer did almost all the lyrics, but Ozzy had the melody (usually). If you finish with stoner rock do more Kyuss: Whitewater PLEASE consider doing punk rock next: The Clash, The Stooges, then Ramones and Sex Pistols.

I'm torn between a massive classic that hasn't been done (Children of the Grave) or something off one of the two classic albums you guys haven't done yet, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage. From the albums, I'd suggest "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and/or "Symptom of the Universe" respectively. I actually learned the bass part for "Symptom" for a band I was in.

Children of the Grave, lads, you have to give it a listen. You can just hear how influential that tune has been for metal with the breaks and tempo changes.

Even if you guys don’t wrap up the marathon with “Children of the Grave” you should definitely come back to it at some point. As always you guys put up some great content and I’ve noticed lots of others trying to imitate with their own reaction channels but they all fall short!!

Now that's stoner rock. Matt pike played in other bands as well. I prefer high on fire.

Christopher Vaca the first four High on Fire albums do no wrong. After that I’m not as wild about them, but I bet the guys would shit over 10,000 Years

@@Pead929 all HoF is good imo. They're the only band that has gotten heavier and more venomous with time.

You guys have some of the best reactions in KZbin, and honestly I can't decide whether it's Ryan or George I have the biggest crush on 🤔 But until I figure it out, I'll agree on going with Children of the Grave 💙
