The jazzy section starting around 12:35 has the building blocks that became Rat Salad on the Paranoid album. That's always the coolest part of listening these sorts of extended jams from bands, getting to hear the process of how later songs came into being. Thanks for the upload. The quality here is outstanding.

Good ear. Spot on. I hear it. I was saying in another post how they came out with first 4 albums in 3 years. Two in 1970. They definitely had at least pieces of songs in 1970 that weren’t released yet. It’s obvious. They probably had whole songs. So many musical ideas just flowing from these 4.

I may be wrong but I think I finally found what rendition 12:35 is from. It's a smooth jazz piece that's not in any of their albums and every once in a while I would try it out on guitar. But the rendition sounds very much like Dave Brubecks song "Take Five" from 1959. I love these little easter eggs and their renditions of other songs Black Sabbath would do. It sounds similar but Iommi put his own take on it with the guitar. Sounds amazing the way his guitar always feedsback and wails.

None of this music happened in a vacuum. Influences. Favorites. Re-configured as seen by the artistic genius of Sabbath. Sabbath had two albums in 1970, one in 1971, and Vol 4 was out by 1972. Guaranteed they already had some riffs and jam ideas that would make it onto later albums. Such a talented band. So misunderstood by even myself, growing up. Takes a mature ear to appreciate what’s happening here. Parents thought their kids were worshipping satan, when they were actually listening to new interpretations of the same blues and jazz that they grew up on. Fuzzy and distorted. I’m just happy this is available for me to listen to. Completely new Sabbath at 52 years old.

A fan for life, no doubt,, but only started listening to Sabbath in 1982...at sixteen, and I found what I'd been missing. This stuff! Very hard. Very angry, evil sounding music with tempo changes, you know, an onslaught of distorted notes followed by a sudden jazz bluesey riff...heavy up front bass and all the while Ozzy does it just right. He sounds like the Victim not the cookie monster. Ha, best band ever especially early on.

This is stonking. I listened to the album version back in the 80's, was always special. When I worked in a bank in Liverpool, I played it through the sound system to the customers, they had no idea. Na versão original de Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation a letra é "I was WARNED about you baby". Reza a lenda que Ozzy ouviu ao vivo a música e entendeu "I was BORN without you baby". E daí saiu essa obra-prima. Com BORN, a letra fica muito mais forte. Geralmente a genialidade vem da simplicidade. Vida longa BS!

@@tristanblack6609 I’d respectfully disagree on the Paranoid statement. They played Fairies Wear Boots, which was on Paranoid. Paranoid was probably written by the time they did this show.
