23:07: Seen It: "Adaptation", i think fits into a similar vein, about 2 disparate artists trajectory in life. (this is one of my favorite Nicolas Cage films, w/ him playing both twin brothers)

Whoa! Does Craig now like vampires? This is quite the character arc he’s gone through from the early seasons. Once he said vampires simply weren’t scary, but now he gets it. As a vampire fan (and a Craig fan) I am so happy for him. Ha ha.

That “Wurdolak” vignette, I’m pretty sure, is not ripped off of Poe, but is instead an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s “The House of Vurdolak”, a classic vampire short story.
@legofan3702 жыл бұрын
He was saying the third one, not the second one, was a rip off of Poe as it is very close to his famous story The Telltale Heart.
@deforeestwright24692 жыл бұрын
@@legofan370 Oh, I missed that. Ty for the correction. Nevertheless, Tolstoy deserved a mention, ha ha.

One thing that this film did right: The original Italian title. So many of the major shots of the movie weren't about the gore, or the tension, but the facial expressions of the characters.

Donna Del Lago (1965) aka. The Possessed by Luigi Bazzoni was really my first experience with Italian moviemaking. It is a mystery thriller and thus one of the early examples of the genre "Giallo", which Bava, director of Black Sabbath, also contributed to. It actually awoke my love for the genre. I love this movie, its use of shadows and dream-sequences. It feels Noir due to the mystery and the somewhat naive/romantic main character, yet it takes place mainly in a hotel and with only really a handful of characters.. I would recommend anyone, even those without a fascination for the genre, to go and watch it.

WOW!!! One of my favourite movie on Welcome to the Basement! PS co-writer Alberto Bevilacqua was a very "intellectual writer with big, fancy glasses" kind of tipe and was mostly ashamed of his work with Mario Bava. Only years leter, after the ridiscovery of Bava, he came back around and started giving interview about the movies he co-wrote.

My partner and I do a Halloween marathon each year. Last year's highlights were The Witch and A Quiet Place and this year we've particularly enjoyed Get Out, Train To Busan, The Thing (Carpenter) and the Suspiria remake. This weekend's climactic double feature will be The Brood followed by Hereditary! Hereditary has been widely lauded as a modern classic and I've avoided any plot points or trailers, so here's hoping it cuts the mustard! Anyone else have similar plans? If so, what will you watch? I was never a big horror fan but my partner convinced me and I've been surprised by the variety and depth of the genre 👻👹🤡🎃

Have Matt and Craig ever done a True Crime type scene-it, or a scene-it featuring movies based on real life crimes? I'd be so curious on their thoughts on balancing public interest in crime with the ethics of exploiting tragedy and revering violent offenders. My roommate was watching The Haunting of Sharon Tate and I found it so crass and exploitative as to be unwatchable, but I would be lying if I said I hadn't enjoyed media about Jack the Ripper, etc. Is time the only factor that makes true crime 'acceptable'?

Two strong agreements. I was aware of Black Sabbath but hadn't watched it for similar reasons. Now, I want to. Also, I hated My Dinner with Andre for the same reason: Andre. Not only do I not like him or anything he says but he monologues for 75% of the movie. You have to wait until the last quarter to really hear anything from Wallace, who is delightful, but it's too little too late.

I don’t understand the Gogol reference. It troubles me because he is my favorite author. Did you mention him because the woman calls him an idiot? As in the Idiot by Dostoevsky? But that doesn’t make any sense. Can anyone help me with that reference, it’s really bugging me.
