So, the ticking clock was literally the FIRST thing we see when we walk into Ashe's house in the previous episode. When you're watching the first time you don't notice, but on rewatch it's so clear how much setup was happening. For one thing, Miranda compared interacting with Abigail to "a clock that finally struck its chime", and in the other flashback episodes you can see the clock in the Hamilton household. I love Miranda, and rewatches have strengthened that love. Her final words are full of such righteous anger, and every single bit of it is true. Ashe would rather himself be perceived as a hero then let the truths of his actions come to light. He's more than happy to use James - and the story around him - to be the hero he's always pretended to be. I also think there's something to be said for just how important James and Miranda are to each other. It's not the same love he had with Thomas, but they've been together for ten years. For so long, the only person who could understand them, who completely knew them, was the other. It's a fascinating bond that I think some people sleep on or miss by trying to argue that there was no love there at all. The truth is, there was a lot of love there, it had just been twisted by grief and pain. That conversation Miranda and James have about him choosing the name Flint also makes me think of Gates's words about "returning to the sea". That as pirates it "pays us, then it claims us. Swallows us whole. As if we were never there at all." It's an amazing conversation all around.

I love the conversation about choosing Flints name. It sticks with me throughout the years, and its so deeply connected to the rest of the show. And you're right, james and miranda have such a deeply complex internal relationship and i think i appreciate it more the more time extends.

These conversations between the crew are so good and heartbreaking knowing how this all wrapped up. You can just see it all over Eric’s face knowing how much he loves this show. So glad you guys revisited it.

Miranda looking right at Flint when she says that she wants the city burned to the ground always gives me chills. Just like with the Maria Elaine, her anger, pain and vengeance is just as potent as Flint's.

I like to think that as soon as Anne set foot on the ship and the crew began to voice dissent Featherstone immediately told them to shove it and announced that she is henceforth part of the crew until the end of days.
