In the 1980s the Black Watch came to the tiny town of Bencoolen (Bengkulu) on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia and they marched with their bagpipes this tune. The whole town turned out. It was the most exciting event since Independence. Even now when I feel low in spirits I listen to the Black Watch and immediately cheer up. There is really nothing as uplifting as bagpipes.

At least there is The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada to carry on the traditions and history of a very proud Regiment. It is an honour to share the name of such an illustrious Regiment. My father, all his brothers (3) and all my mothers brothers (4) were in the Canadian Black Watch during the Second World War. One of my mothers brothers was buried over there. I served 18 years in the Regiment as well and left as, what you call Colour Sergeant. Proudly Canadian first and Black Watch second.

It is a great regiment and the men who continue to serve today are upstanding, noble, and honourable. God bless them. It is very good to see the local population in Dundee connecting with thanks for their efforts overseas, and thanking these brave soldiers who uphold their national values.

As you saw in that film the Company taking up the rear got out of step, it's very common because the sound is delayed. It happened at the Queens Coronation parade, I actually started it by holding a large disc up so the troops fell in along the Mall could see it and knew they would march in 5 minutes time. I served from 1947 to 1973.

During the Indonesian Confrontation in the early 60s, because the British supported militarily the creation of a new country called Malaysia, formerly Malaya, thousands of Indonesians stormed the British embassy in Jakarta. The British military attache in full Scottish military regalia marched to the front lawn playing Scotland the Brave on his bag pipe. The sound was enough to frighten the hostile crowd out of their wits. No shot was fired and British honour was upheld. All our military bands in Malaysia have bagpipers as they do in India and Pakistan. Needless to say I enjoy pipe music enormously.

They scared the shit out of the Argentinians in the Falklands war even before they landed on the islands; maybe because the BBC put it out on the World Service that they (the Ghurkas) eat their enemies!

As a former American soldier, who feels a shiver run thru my body, and a desire to run and join them, when I hear a military march, and see soldiers marching, I do aver, the British Military has a show of elan, a strut that no other military has. Their music, their appearance, and their pageantry are a class act. God curse and destroy the sorry IS admirers, the politicians who embraced PC diversity, and those responsible who have enfeebled our culture so that such fine young soldiers can no longer walk proudly, in uniform, among those they protect.
@Naeron667 жыл бұрын
The change to not wear uniform in public for Britsh Forces on the mainland really dates back to the days of the IRA (an organisation partially funded via support from some in the US given via Sinn Fein).

Most Scots, Welsh and Irish speak only English, so there English? I'm English because I speak English? see how stupid that argument is? you're an anti British ideolog and bigot, and giving how you said my Irish surname was the only nice thing about me pobably an extremist Irish nationalistself, you're a self delusioned, self aggrandizing idiot, the stupidest people allways think there the smartest, talk them selves up, You're a perfect example, it's like trying to reason with an antivaxxer, or a creationist, can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into.

I gave you evidence and yet regardless of every idiotic reply you have offered up nothing to verify your ideology of what is British ( English) is but I have!! Based on that sole fact you can carry on getting angry as it's obvious you are. Everyone else is wrong and fuckhead Farrell is right. The history of these nations is far beyond your understanding simply because you haven't actually studied it. The Celts and Gaels of Ireland, Scotland and Wales have been around for 32 thousand years prior to the modern day English who have been here for about 3,500 years. BRITAIN WAS INVENTED DURING ROMAN TIMES AND IT MEANT ENGLISH AS I HAVE ALREADY EXPLAINED FFS. Celtic identity in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland existed long before it so British it is not!! Keep gibbering though as it's hilarious to see a childish gobshyte in full retarded flow. You Know nothing because your an amadan lol. Ask your Irish dad for his opinion on your hypothesis and don't even surprised if he gives ye a belt in the skull for your stupidity.. Now in the words of Brenda Behan fuck off. Canadian Military is a joke now. we fought so hard for the respect our military deserved just to have it thrown away by corrupt government. A very interesting clip: It has everything. A fine band of fighting men, marching with purpose through the streets: the rattle of the snare drum, and the bagpipes sending out the Black Bear [ return to barracks ], before an adoring crowd lining the streets. Two youths eagerly keep up with the troops as the last section march through, and an old man finds a place finally to cross the road.

Goosebumps: The first time I saw the Black Watch marching to this tune was in Montreal on Remembrance Day when I was 8 years old. My father, a WW2 vet was one of the parade security guards dressed exactly as they are in this wonderful video. What is in this live video and missing from most recordings is the sound of the pipes changing as the parade gets closer and the sound of feet striking the ground in unision as they pass by.

just a thought, have you checked Russian history, just how much Scotland have been active in your history, go have a look, I think you may be surprised. We have the same saint, St Andrew and his flag.

Just one item, when Scots troops wear the kilt, they also wear White gaiters, this was to mark a retreat, but carried out in the best Scottish tradition, they ran out of footwear, tore up blankets and sheets, and used that to save their feet. So, the history of the White Gaiter.

What a load of rubbish brave men playing the bagpipes. Remember this is the same nation of brave men and women who less than five years ago turned down the chance to vote for independence and be brave enough to stand on their own two feet. Scotland the Brave .....I think not. From someone who voted YES !
