Is there a way to fix dry spots by putting another coat of epoxy without having to strip the cup? I did a fire tumbler and it looks great except one section on the bottom part has yellow circles where everything separated and it’s dry.
@ThePurpleStitch3 жыл бұрын
I actually just tap it with a little extra Apoxsee on my finger. I may not have done it in this video but I’ve definitely done it in lots of others and it almost always looks just fine. Sometimes it needs to be rubbed because there’s an oily spot.

@ThePurpleStitch4 жыл бұрын
Just make sure your epoxy cures completely and that the epoxy you’re using is FDA compliant and you’ll be good! If your cups are tacky or sticky, then they’ll need to be stripped and redone. Otherwise, I cured epoxy could cause some people to have a reaction of some sort. 🙂

what causes the tumblers to be sticky after a couple daysbof drying im having trouble with cups being sticky to the touch ?
@ThePurpleStitch2 жыл бұрын
There can be a few reasons. Sometimes the mix ratio is off enough that it prevents a full cure. But for me, it’s usually temps or humidity. I have a shop light nearby to make sure it stays warmer in that area when the temps drop.

how much epoxy should I mix for this would u say? I have the same cup
@rhynes844 жыл бұрын
also how much for the last coat of epoxy
@ThePurpleStitch4 жыл бұрын
For the swirling you need enough to get movement. For the final coat you just need enough to get a good layer. So I usually start with 5-10 ml over whatever the ounce of the cup is. But I don’t put it all on at the beginning. So on a 20, I will typically mix up 25-30. But I only put about 20 on at first. I get an idea of how much movement I’ll get and add more if it isn’t thick enough. For final coat I’d say maybe 10 on a 20 ounce. More only if I need to even out any waves left in my swirling after it cured. Hope that makes sense!

Any type of mask that is rated to block out fumes. Once epoxy is heated some people have allergic reactions, myself included. Some people even have to wear respirator masks without any kind of heat involved. Sam have reactions with just mixing the epoxy in general.

hmm 🤔 .....had the epoxy been mixed either too long prior or mixed for too long? Both of those can cause it to cure too fast. Do you have a heat gun or any sort? That’s how I get mine to move. I do get “dry spots” frequently and have to literally touch them up by dabbing epoxy onto those areas.
