This is the same technique as the brown swirl tutorial. I wanted to do another color option just to show what the differences could be and what your options are. Thanks used in this tutorial are Tim Holtz indigo and mermaid, and piñata brand white and Baja Blue.

Yes, I had the (almost) same issue with those squeeze bottles! But I caught the top in time, only lost abut 10ml of resin, not the hardener. I taped tops with duct tape to prevent it from happening again and I also cut tip bigger on resin bottle to ease the pressure when squeezing.

I used the tim Holtz white mixtative and I've noticed it doesn't mix as well. Is it because I need more heat or epoxy. I used 20 ml last time on a ceramic coffee mug

You create such beautiful tumblers. I live up north and share your frustration working with resin on cold days/nights. Have you tried soaking both part A and B bottles in warm/hot water before you use it? It works like a charm. On really cold days I take it one step further and halfway through mixing my resin I fill a separate cup up with warm water and put my cup with resin mix into the cup of warm water, soaking it while I continue to mix the resin (just don't get any water into the resin).... I hope that made since.

Is the key to getting good movement, having more epoxy on the cup and heat? I think I've been skimping on the epoxy and my white mixative is just splotchy. I'll bump up to 30ml to see if I can get it to stick ..
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 4 жыл бұрын
That seems to be the key for me. Some people say I use too much epoxy, so go with what works for you for sure. But too little epoxy won’t move. I think there could definitely be such a thing as too much as well.

Thank you for the tutorial! Do you sand the cup before the second coat of epoxy?
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 жыл бұрын
I typically don’t sand my ink layer. I’m paranoid that the sanding marks won’t vanish like it would on clear layers of epoxy. 😆 it’s probably a useless concern, but I don’t wanna risk a cup to find out!

If I was to do a cup with the exact colors you used what would it look like if I sprinkled a very fine glitter on top? Would I ruin it or not? Also if it would work what color glitter would you suggest? I love your videos they are the best ones out there! Thanks Shelagh San Francisco, California
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I have added glitter in the past as well. I feel like it’s better to do it as it’s own layer of epoxy. The inks need more epoxy to move and the glitter can just sink in. But you could also do it after it had been turning long enough that it is set up but still tacky. I use a transparent glitter so that the colors underneath show through but still has the sparkle. Or I’ve used a super fine glitter mixed in the epoxy. I’ve done that as the ink layer epoxy and also as the layer over the inks. Both had great results. Thank you for your sweet words! 🥰

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. I think I’m going to add it when the alcohol ink/ epoxy is tacky. I definitely will use a transparent glitter as you suggested. Thanks again

This is beautiful! If I wanted to add a little gold to this color palette, would you add it before or after the white?
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I say probably before so that it can be broken up by the white. It’s going to depend on the type of gold going on there. Mixatives are tricky beasts.

How do you prep the glass before putting the resin on? Will resin stick to stainless steel?
@ThePurpleStitch

Yes, it will stick but it’s always a good idea to sand it. I typically sand and then spray paint a base color. I’ve done a video on stainless to give you an idea of how it turns out.

I have a question for it to cure and dry do you leave it on the turner to dry
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 4 жыл бұрын
I’ll leave it on the turner if I do not need it. It only needs to actually spin for long enough for the epoxy to set/harden. It can completely cure somewhere else once it’s past that step.

You mentioned a dry spot ,what causes dry spots on your cups?
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 жыл бұрын
I believe it’s where the epoxy repels because I was touching the cup with bare hands. The oils from our hands end up on the cup. I rarely get them anymore since I stopped touching them without gloves.

Could you probably not do another layer of epoxy? Is the one layer with alcohol inks good enough or is the second needed?
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 4 жыл бұрын
Frank Aleksiejczyk I wouldn’t leave it without a top layer. The inks can run off onto other surfaces. If I’m not sure I’ve coated one get, I take an alcohol wipe and see if color comes off. That’s where I get my suspicion that it will get ink on other surfaces. Also, I read somewhere recently that the inks themselves are not fda compliant. They need to be covered with something that is.
