Black Widow vs Magnaflow - 2014 Ram

Truck is a 2014 Ram 1500. Moe's Performance HPT cam, 1-3/4" JBA longtube headers, JBA catless Y-pipe, AEM CAI, Greene Racing tune, and some other goodies (and yes, that is nitrous in the bed)
Thought I would show the difference between these 2 exhaust setups.
First is a Black Widow Race Venom muffler with stock dual pipes AFTER the muffler with resonators still in. Also have an 8" glasspack Cherry Bomb just before the muffler to act as a small resonator.
Second is a 14" Magnaflow muffler (part number 12198), with dual 2.5" mandrel bent pipes from the muffler back, no resonators other than that same Cherry Bomb above, and 5" tips.

That's a heck of a shockwave when you started it up at 1:21!! Love it! I recently switched from an 18" MF to a Race Venom and went from a 3" single-in/2.5" dual-out to a 2.5" dual-in/dual-out, running 2.5" dual tubes all the way back. The Race Venom acts as the H-pipe between them, and - while I love the rumble at low rpm - I'm getting annoyed by the rasp at mid-rpm. Thinking of putting on an X-pipe followed by twin Black Widow 250's to get rid of the rasp.

Thanks! It's quite a difference switching from 18" to 14" eh? I loved the sound of the Race Venom, but with my set up, I had a slight bit of rasp in certain RPMs, which was just enough to bug me haha. Sweet man! So you are running true duals then? I wanted to do that, but ended up going single turbo, so can't make true duals work haha!

I just did a black widow neighbor hater on my 04 F150 4.6 abs sounds damn good. That magnaflow sounds good on yours

The black widow definitely has a deeper sound. I recently got the venom series 250 on my trailblazer and it sounds nastyy

I would be happy with either set-up they both sound Bad-Ass so its just a matter of personal preference like everything else in life ! I notice you got some slicks on the back, nitrous in the bed looks like a trip to the track👍

They both did sound great for sure! But, I do prefer the Magnaflow over the Black widow personally! Haha yup it was ready for the track that day. I've since done a lot of work to it and now it's half street half track. I pulled the nitrous out and put a turbocharger in, and and building a 6.4 BGE to swap in to it 😁

Depends. Magnaflow has a nicer sound to it, but there is a bit of cab drone. But, it is also a straight through design, which works better for me when racing. Black Widow is a decent sound, but to me, it sounds like there is just a little bit of rasp, which I personally don't like. But there is no drone. It also has an hour glass shape to it, so it is slightly restricting for racing. The truck is getting a turbo soon, so I am hoping that eliminates the cab drone. If it Doesn't, I will add a resonator to fix it.

What was the Black Widow model? There are four to choose from. The Black Widow gives the better Lumpy sound. Like a real drag car.

As it shows in the video as well as the description, it is a Black Widow Race Venom. The model being the Race Venom. I will have to disagree with the Black Widow being the better of the 2. Maybe it sounds different in person than on a video, but the Magnaflow definitely gives the deeper drag car sound. The black widow has more of a slight rasp to it, whereas the Magnaflow has a deeper tone and doesn't have any rasp.

Dammit i like both. I have muffler and resonators deleted on mine just to get it loud,newer trucks have gotten quieter.your truck sounds great

Shane, Magnaflow sounds cleaner. Just hate the drone on mags. Yes, they all have it. I tried many sizes. Anyways, sounds good.

I do agree, the Magnaflow does have the cleaner/better sound. As for drone - personally I don't hear much of it. Maybe I am just used to it, but if it's there, it's mild!

@@03Ram06CBR1000RR No worries. I don't think most on social media know what drone is. Magnaflow engineer said it best. All cars have drone. Its the mufflers job to remove it. Based on design, MF has a hard time since two positives don't become a negative (straight through design). Anyways, nice sound none the less.

I'd say the MF is the way👌👌 Sounds rlly clean. Im sure in person, perspectives change. Not to say Black Widow doesn't make good muffs. 👀 Im sure the stats are non to run home about but Any performace changes you notice? Nice Vid Btw

I'm told the performance is increased a little bit with the magnaflow as it is a straight through design instead of an hour glass design like the black widow. Plus with the pipes upgraded from 2-1/4 to 2-1/2, it makes it less restrictive. Of course all this also ties in to the other mods and support it. Not sure how this set up would be on a stock truck!

anyone with ears can clearly hear magnaflow sounds way better than the black widow which it should as it cost more.
