Guys, this review is what I noticed and what really stood out to me within the first few days. This is not the full review. I don't think some of you are understanding that. At least the BlackBerry fanboys aren't as they are using it as a reason to jab at me for not mentioning everything they see of value. Chill your beans!

why does nobody understand that it's actually positive if you feel the warmth of a phone nowadays? it's called heat dissipation. every processor gets warm and even hot, so if you can't feel it it means that the heat is trapped inside, causing overheating. simple physics.
@VaunShiz9 жыл бұрын
yes but phones can do basic tasks. and not heat up at all, it's heating up just doing basic things which it shouldn't that's her point,
@EricaGriffin9 жыл бұрын

@mcericx9 жыл бұрын
+Erica Griffin hot? really?
@pauldiamond15836 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Though, many people have experienced the uncomfortable heat produced from a phone that has an old, swollen battery. Because of this, many people develop a negative connotation with heat dissipating from their phones.

Agreed; on-screen keyboards are faster than physical ones but you just don't get the satisfaction of tactile feedback unless you use real buttons. Also, physical keys allow me to type and look elsewhere at the same time, meaning I can pay attention to where I'm going.

IT GOD DAMM OVERHEATS!!!!!!!! way bad.....i fixed this problem....oddly enough it was the blackberry software itself, i ran 3 separate apps that analyze apps, the "hot" ones were the blackberry apps itself, i deleted or "disabled" them and the overheating vanished by 90%, it now takes a heavy prolonged used like normal phones are, before that it took 2 minutes of use, basic ebay searching or amazon looking around, and the phone would overheat to the point were my palm was sweating....like way hotter it should have been after 2 minuets of use.....took the brightness down by 50%, turned off lift to wake, and other features....it now runs at normal...and my battery life is back to normal, but that took disabling every cool feature it had....i got it for the physical keyboard, and that mainly...and it was on sale....but all the blackberry software/apps have been deleted or disabled, and google search was also guilty of overheating...i came from a iphone 6....the mix of android/blackberry is not seamless....the BB hub was really bad at overheating.... i bought it, so i will use it and i prefer it over my iphone 6 any day, but should have gotten something diffrent...to late now....

Hi Erica, when you used the passsport was it after its first update 10.3.1 or 10.3.2? I'm uncertain what you referred to as the BlackBerry launcher is actually the BlackBerry launcher (it's definitely not the bb10 style). Mind having a crack at using the launcher by assigning shortcuts to keys? Eg. A longpress of 'o' for 'outsource' emails the company I outsource work to. 'w' composes a text message to my wife 'a' adds an appointment, 'n' adds a note. Basically try and create a shortcut for any communication task you do repetitively and see if you like it. If BlackBerry didn't do that I wouldn't be a BlackBerry user. Hope you like it, thanks.

Hi, I'm not a Blackberry fanboy, never had one and even the price here is higher than what you paid. I ordered one nonetheless, the main reason: Security updates. I'm sick of using the "standard" Android choices where you can't safely walk around with wifi enabled or surf without risk of someone opening one of the dozens of unpatched issues your vendor doesn't give you an update for. The extended security features also matter a lot to me. This is the phone I'm using for work and I still consider it *my* phone, not google's or any app vendors'. The keyboard is just a nice bonus - I don't want to work with autosuggestions, since honestly, I want to write what I think, not what the phone suggests based on the few word relations it knows. Thank you a lot for showing this in some depth in the video though - that was helpful.

I actually like the full feel combination of BB, S Edge and iphone s series that are on this device, it is quite useful for me being coming from multiple backgrounds of iphone, Samsung and BBs. The Cam and Speakers are good, and the software will get more enhanced with the coming updates, especially for the warmness that you're feeling during usage (same happens with all new releases on all other iphones and Androids). The peak feature by sliding up is more handy than on the iphone and the edge peak is quite good as the s6 edge. The added filters are quite useful, you just need to get used to it to know their benefits. That's a pretty good phone, all the luck Blackberry.

In anticipation of this new launch I just purchased a Blackberry Passport Silver Edition on sale at Amazon ($479) and am really enjoying it so far. It honestly feels great to type on a real keyboard. I was ready to try something different than same old Android but was not ready to commit to the Priv due to the price. You just need to have some technical know-how and patience to get most of the apps you are accustomed to up and running. I hope to buy the Priv next year when the initial bugs have been sorted out and the price drops.

You mentioned the redundancy of the app-specific notification selection in the notification drawer. While when you have a small amount of notifications this would be true, I feel like this may benefit those that get many notifications from apps, whether its social media, email, youtube, or other various apps. If you have so many notifications that you have to scroll to look through them, being able to go through them by app may be both more efficient, and just easier.

blackberry wow, really good software, i love the cursor function on the keypad-so much more precise in typing text, and the pop up widget is quite brilliant- even better than 3d touch shortcuts, even the productivity tab is more useful than the s6 one. maybe all the heavy skins is slowing down.

So, if you transitioned from the Z10/Z30, the mute button makes perfect sense. As many times as I've been on telecon bridges/conference calls, this button is one of the best features. You'll need to be on conference calls before you get the full appreciation for a hardware mute button- which also happens to work for youtube apps, etc.

One thing about Blackberry is that they will release updates very quickly and will provide a great support for this in the coming year. The physical keyboard is such a place for those long emails. I think people who don't use it don't realise it's not about just the speed but the feedback you get from the physical keyboard. Another thing, I feel Blackberry has really made a winner. Finally an Android phone that isn't a toy.
@EricaGriffin9 жыл бұрын
I don't find the typing experience on here to be fast at all on the physical keyboard. I used physical keyboards for years and I just feel that on screen is now so much faster... Even for long emails.

Thanks for the response Erica. What I meant that by on screen versus the physical keyboard, is the sense of feedback you get from physical keyboard. I saw your one week challenge on Passport however it took most people a month to get used to the keyboard of Passport. Moreover, I find with onscreen keyboards, even though faster, you have to look at the keyboard more rather than the content. The touch typing experience is just not there. It gets tiring with longer email, let alone with all the autocorrect issues. I suggest if you're going to take a challenge with this phone and I believe this isn't your full review, then please use the physical keyboard for at least a few weeks and let the subscribers know. Trust me it builds on you.

+Erica Griffin Your comment is interesting. But I think the point is that with a physical keyboard, you finish typing a long paragraph faster than with a virtual keyboard. Even if you type faster on a VKB. Because with a physical keyboard you are supposed to make less typographical mistakes, so it's faster on the long term (supposedly).

the priv seems really classy! I would prob seriously consider the priv 2 whenever that comes out

Thanks for the overview. With the swipe-up-on-the-app-to-reveal-the-widget function, BB copied a great feature from +Chris Lacy Action Launcher app.

This looks like a really nice device, as I was expecting. The price is really what killed it for me. You can get basically any other high-end phone for cheaper... Nexus 6, Moto X Pure, even the Galaxy S6 Edge and Note 5 for cheaper. I just don't see the value unless you _really_ need that physical keyboard.

Nice. I really like the looks of this phone especially the keyboard. But since I'm a new Grandpa (well, 7 months now, but it still feels new) I really wish the camera were better in low light. Great job as usual! ~ Randy Wright ) I have to sign my name now since I changed the name of my channel!)

Really love the screen color and brightness of Priv. From my comparison test, I think it is as good or better than Galaxy S6. The camera is good too.

Blackberry seems to be stepping up their game which I am happy for! The last Blackberry I had was the Storm and that was such a let down...

Did u try the newer ones like key2 ? Even though they feel inferior in quality (TCL built) than the priv.

I do really love the physical keyboard. I get that typing on a touch screen can be fast if you're happy with auto-correct going to town on your typing, but I absolutely loathe it. I often need to type in unusual screen names, or product and technology names, and sometimes I even like to just make up my own words, and I don't need an automatic dictionary constantly fighting me.

The phone w/AT&T is about $270 with a 2 yr contract. If you usually stay w/your cell company a long time, it is a good deal rather than paying upwards of $750

Your hands make phones look so huge in videos, I watched your htc one m9 video before I got it and thought it was the size of a nexus 6

Fair and detailed first impressions! What was the background you had on it? Was it a stock Priv background? Look forward to your follow up full review. Hopefully they iron out any software issues and fix any heat / throttling issues. Cheers

Good review. Sold! now gota get one. The phone looks more up to pace with Samsung Edge and iPhones plus the internal specs are upgraded up to par to compete and function just as well, however it tips the scale with its full keyboard if need to type thos long emails and reports one after another for work, that only physical keyboard can offer.

Erica! Just a few things- this doesn't have a file manager- no native gallery- no sound recorder for notes - if blackberry wants us to download third party apps for the above then what's the purpose of calling it PRIV? - a blackberry nexus? when slid up this thing is huge! The keypad isn't as good as bold or classic- the speaker is simply not good the pores would fill up with dust sooner! I wonder what has John been doing ?
