A pity he's not immune to FB and does nothing with it (save for Dancer, all his outriders had it **his foe, some outsider, even has it**). No P3 form using the stuff for a surprise (while padding out his HP to be less squishy) along with pulling out the stops with clones (not limited to one). For all the weird shit tied to him, he sure had none of the qualities from his rings (gaining power or HP regen with consecutive hits landed). Didn't even possess dark (MAG) explosions (unlike Dancer). Probably should have studied the flame magic of the trees that raised him (so he could do a bootleg version of Lothric's antics). Pity she can be riposte'd or even backstabbed, but his grab doesn't apply to her like an NPC would job to it (not like it does much).

Sully ignites his sword. Ooohh I've got a bad feeling about this, I must be really careful. Pontiff instantly TP to my face taking 30% of my HPs. It's probably because the start up was so long that players could attack him during it if they were fast enough, which would handicap the Pontiff and probably make the victory feel less deserved. All boss intros need to be cool but they also need to let the fight start before the player can attack so the boss has the chance to dodge, they only way that would be possible with the the original animation would probably be via increasing the distance between the player and the Pontiff but that would probably than it would be worth

In my head canon Pontiff Sulyvahn is her Lord of Cinder. Each unkindled is paired with one. Anri with Aldrich, Siegward with Yhorm, Hawkwood and the Abyss Watchers, and us with the Twin Prince's. Friede is an unkindled as well. We don't get a reveal on who her Lord is, but in early iterations of the story Pontiff was intended to be the final boss of the game. This would likely place him in Lord of Cinder status, or something of that nature. He is also from the Painting, which would give him a story tied to his "assigned" Unkindled, following the trend.

Friede basically gets staggered every hit when shes not attacking, so once Pontiff got his clone out it was hard for her to get many attacks because she would just be in hitstun all the time

Friede's moveset is designed to fight player characters who are more vulnerable to her attacks and she staggers more easily, but she can still dish out damage. Pontiff is a chunky boss with nearly unlimited poise and can't be grabbed. I feel like it's more Pontiff sided.

That wasn't even it. He probably just picked the worst possible fight for her. I've never seen her fight this bad in her third phase. Maybe he toned down her aggression in the ini files. She's normally absolutely relentless, similar to Champion Gundyr. Never stands still for a second, whereas she stalled endlessly here just allowing herself to get hit.

Friede wielding a big scythe infused with (dark) flame and a short scythe infused with Frost.
