I was actually at this concert and they were superb. We managed to get them to play 3 encores. Rick Medlock was an awesome front man. Rip Jackson " Thunderfoot" Spires.

19 & alone & new to London, I saw this actual gig at the Odeon. Hark back peoples, to the time lyrics and melody meant something! Blackfoot blew most bands off stage with their energy and vitality. "What's rock?" THIS is! And it don't get better!

My mom was very good friends with these guys. I grew up listening to them at their height. They worked their asses off and even outplayed Molly Hatchet in concert. Best time was 1979 at the Tower in Philly. They were the headliners and their pening act was a little known group of 15 year olds from England known as Def Leppard. They went to be very good friends between the groups. Jackson spent a lot time with the Def LEppard drummer after his accident that claimed his arm. What a group .

Saw them on next tour supported by Samsom with Bruce Dickinson - Rickey signed me jeans afterwards!!! ...and then at Knebworth in '85. Just gotta luv 'em!! \m/0_0\m/

Man, the energy on that stage!! Even though it's not a " quality " recording and I can barely make out what he's saying, I had to listen several times to make sure, lol. Wish I had seen them in concert back then...
@damnyankeeyankee681210 жыл бұрын
I've seen them 3 times in two states (Ohio & Tennessee). Seen them with RATT and they blew RATT off the stage. They were all high energy performances - and to be honest, their studio albums paled compared to their live sound (but, that's a hallmark of a great band). I was devastated when this band imploded - I truly believed if they kept true to their roots and emerged out of the 80s together, they would've been superstars because this band was way ahead of its time. Jak & Rickey's song/lyric writing from High Reservations to Siogo kept getting better and better. Charlie had such a great, searing guitar sound that added the sizzle to Rick's bluesy playing. And Jak & Greg created such a thunderous bottom end. R.I.P. Jak - you were the most underrated drummer in Rock history - as was this band. MUCH better than Skynyrd in my opinion.

Blackfoot was the best kickass hard rock band ever. Saw em at their best in 80/81 in NYC/NJ. Too bad they were constantly mismanaged and screwed over. Siogo was the beginning of the end before all the nonsense. Hensley should have stayed in Uriah Heep. Does this band sound like they need keyboards? Rickey is a rock legend!
@kevinblake8397 жыл бұрын
Yep, classic case of the godawful music biz ruining a great band. "Southern rock is dead, you have to change." Says who??? Some moron in a suit. How many great bands have been similarly destroyed down the decades?

The man needs no introduction unless you're deaf respect he deserves he would never ask for anything more would not accept anything less God bless you Rickey medlocke.
@patrickkunkle59583 жыл бұрын
I agree. Their ‘80s albums had a couple strong points like Morning Dew, but their Southern rock was the real deal. Considering that Molly Hatchet released their No Guts No Glory album (one of their best, in my opinion) the same year Blackfoot released Siogo, Blackfoot definitely could have kept true to their roots. I’m curious about what songs like Teenage Idol would’ve sounded like had they been under the band’s original style

My music freinds and self were amazed by Jackson's timing and unique rythyms and beats. Blackfoot's foundation rested on what Jack could do. Every guitarist's dream would be to have Jack on drums. His unique timing and style can not be stressed enough. Not too many days psss without having to listen to Jack. Ricky, I love his voice and heart. They all were gentleman. Watching them in the early days was a big event for everyone they were superstars. The best of the best.

Saw this lot support the Scorpions and they blew them away .Scorpions were so clean and clinical it was like listening to the records. Blackfoot were rough and rocking and pure joy to watch. I waited outside their hotel the following morning to meet them and thank them personally. Check out "Morning Dew" from Vertical Smiles"....... True Brilliance.

This is the video to go with the double live single they released after the tour. Didn't see this gig but saw them in Glasgow the same tour as well as 79 as Scorpions support band. Also 81 at Monsters of Rock. Still got my autographed copy of Marauder tucked away in the attic. Magical stuff.
@wagonwaller16 жыл бұрын
Quite possibly the best rhythm section in southern rock. Between Jakson Thunderfoot Spires and Greg T Walker (I loooooove his bass lines), they could play anything. Hargrett was a lunatic on stage (isn't he like 6-6??), and Rickey had one of the most soulful voices in southern rock. They don't make bands like this anymore.

I saw them in 81 when Def Leppard opened for them in San Diego. I went to see Leppard but walked out a Blackfoot fan. Then about a year later they opened for Ted Nugent and they blew Nugent off the stage. Glad to see Ricky back with Sknyrd.

Any serious rock fan should give Blackfoot a listen. Live in the 80,s they were the band and yes I saw them with the Scorpions and yes I thought Blackfoot were the better band live and yes I still like the Scorpions.

It's NOT about what part of the country you are from man! Saw Blackfoot with many bands live...always great and most of the bands they were on the bill with were great too! BOC,Cheap trick, Krokus, Jon Butcher Axis. It's a wonder all those guys even survived those wild as hell days! Bands today pale in comparison! I have to say that Whenever I did see Blackfoot and BOC at the same show I was always torn between Medlocke and Buck as to who was the best player, Rick had to sing more though so...
