Blacking out My Jeep Renegade Grill Trim Rings

DIY of how I vinyl wrapped my Jeep's trim rings.
I was able to remove the trim rings without removing the bumper.

Get yourself a set of nylon pry bars for working on plastic trim. It will help protect you against scratching or cracking those types of parts.

Thanks for the video... It helped me to swap out my rings... I couldn't get to the very bottom clip because of a flap. But this final clip can be overcome by pulling hard. A bit worrying but it will come out.

1) The vinyl ensures a smooth finish. 2) If I ever changed my mind I can remove the vinyl and back to stock.

Jr's Gasoline Alley I saw a post you don’t own this vehicle anymore but if you plasti dip it you could always remove it back to factory and still have a gloss finish

A light sanding then a primer designed for plastic. After that you are prob good to go.

How were you able to get to the lower half of the insert tabs? I got a cover for the radiator, and every time I pull it back it's damaging the radiator. It's superficial but I can only pull back so far before breaking something.

Lower ones are a pain, but once you find them you can push up and get them popped.

I have opened up my jeep to do this, but don't know how you are pressing on the inner tabs to loosen the inserts. Mine are so brittle, I am worried of snapping them. Are you pushing out? or pushing them in a certain direction?

Just go on Ebay and buy cover for the grill bought mine and only took me 10 minutes to put on and they look great 27.95

you don't need to number the rings, they are all the same. 1 part number. so it wont matter where it goes

I'd recommend using Plastic Dip Spray. It comes in many colors...Much more easier and a cleaner look.

Eh, I am not sure you are right. Plasti Dip might be "easier" to apply but it certainly will not be cleaner. Vinyl wrap done properly looks like paint and will be far smoother than plasti dip. In the past I have plasti dip'd many of things, and it has never been better than Vinyl.

I’m having the hardest time getting these tabs out. I tried “pressing” from every angle and can’t figure out what actually pops them off their clip.

Update: figured it out after about an hour and a half. It is the GREY TABS that you have to press away from the silver parts. Couple other helpful tips: I used a very small flat head screw driver to push the tabs. Helped out a lot when reaching to get the lower ones. I ended up breaking a couple that were next to impossible to get at, but there’s enough tabs than it doesn’t matter. Lastly, don’t close your hood before putting the latch back! Hind sight was really dumb but I closed it over night when letting paint dry and forgot that I don’t have access to the lever.

No, the tabs on the grill keep that from happening. You will break the tabs if you try and pry them off from the outside.

This is not as easy as it looks. Just give up now like I did. Don’t remove all the screws and get frustrated that you can’t get the lower tabs or the inserts out at all. Man, what a waste of time. Is there some secret to getting the tabs out? The lower radiator cover was not even mentioned in the video. It makes it very hard to get to the lower tabs.
