Massive kudos to Jack White for not only taking this song to a whole new, haunting, level, but for being secure in his manhood to not change the lyrics.
@rayla1780 Жыл бұрын
😁How would you change the lyrics?
@rayla1780 Жыл бұрын
Like Garnetta Rickett sings, (instead of using the original lyrics) “please don’t take my man,” she changes them to “please come to get my man?"
@Xterraforce Жыл бұрын
Since the original comment mentioned being sucure in his manhood I imagine they mean changing the lyrics to something like Joey instead of Jolene and please don't take my woman. As a male singer the lyrics as written it could be taken as him being in a relationship with a bisexual man who was being pursued by Jolene.

One of the most important bands of the new millennium came and went, and no where near enough people batted an eyelid. The White Stripes. Jack White doesn’t just sing and play music, he allows himself to get infected by the music.

+Todd Twilley I agree. Dave Grohl gets all of the attention, but in my opinion Jack white is just as talented and willing to risks that other artists aren't. He basically brought Loretta Lynn out of retirement and won her a grammy for his trouble. Very talented and prolific musician and those things don't always go together.

Love to hear Jack sing, play & his memorizing trances of musical insight! If a person can sing from shadows of a soul-it is Jack:) A true musician has no apprehensions, reservations or care to input because when you bring it from the soul-lives change for those who listen and feel the music & nothing is the same again because of a song's performance.I get shivers, tears, and envy listening to him playing this! Soul is alive in music & he has a name-Jack White is the man!

He hits the emotion of the song better than Dolly Parton. Just because it's not some perfect pitch, or on key to the original don't merit the comments of awful. For a male singing a song from a female perspective the emotion is so fantastic in this version. Also listen to the Vulnerability in his voice...Incredible.
@bethrogers55537 жыл бұрын
Thomas Bucciero, I completely agree. I was listening to Dolly Parton's original version on KZbin recently. I've always loved the song, "Jolene." I happened to see the White Stripes version. So, out of pure curiosity, I thought I'd watch the video. I was blown away immediately. It's like what you said: to hear a man, and a straight man at that, sing a song from a female perspective with such power and emotion is an amazing experience. When Jack White sings this song, I don't even need suspension of disbelief. I'm completely convinced he is a heartbroken woman, nearing madness, who is fighting desperately to keep the only man she'll ever love.
