those were impressive results with that gun, right there with 45 acp velocity and weight. I don't hunt really, but I'm the sort that like to get close to things. here in southeast PA the bush gets thick, with lots of hills. So I would like to hear and see what kind of groups you achieved with these two bullets. Also I have been developing my own bullets for impact. Currently I have options in all three calibers. 5- .31 cal ranging from 62- 90 grains. 4- .36 cal ranging from 126 -150 gr. 4- .44 cal designed for the Remington/small colt ranging from 165- 225 grain. 4- .44 cal designed for the Walker/ ruger ranging from 240- 270 gr. Check out over at leverguns 50. He has tested my two lightest. 44 calibers in water jugs, and my heaviest .44 bullet @ 271 gr through ballistics gel. The test was done out a walker, went through all 32" , and the one full load he used hit a velocity just shy of 1000 fps.

I carry either an 1860 with 40 grains of compressed black powder under 220 grain conicals, or an 1851 with 30 grains of black powder under 83 grain roundballs. I’m confident either would do the job for self defense, but that .44 I keep for bigger critters and automobile bodies.

Blackie : When you have lighting conditions like that the Chrono can't see the bullet due to lack of contrast. I've had the same problem with Rifle Cartridges. What I did was take some Alcohol or Paint Thinner and clean the Bullet then Paint the Bullet Flat Black with a Sharpie. this makes for more contrast as the Bullet is easier to see, also you might try an indoor lighting kit which uses a bunch of specially selected L.E.D.'s to light the Chrono ,They are Invisible to the Human Eye. Pro Chrono and Caldwell both sell them but I don't know about Chrony.

👍 I had problem with chrona shock wave giving reading instead of bullet. With 44 mag 3 inch barrel and Super 14 with 300gr bullets. Cure moved the chrona back to 15 yds. 50 BMG had to move back 20 yds...lol. Just wondering? I tried 160 gr, 180 gr, 200 gr, 240 gr out 3 inch barrel the ran 44 special 200 gr and got same fps. Shot beside the chrona finally to figure I was getting Shockwave instead of bullet speed on overcast humid day. I am not saying that is what your experience is at all. But you may want to try a close outside shot to see if life isn't pulling your leg. One other time I was getting 1130 to 1090 fps out of a short barrel only move back 9 more yards and 750 to 761 fps reading. Which was what expected from the loads made up for this project.
