The hobo stick is a modern development from the Roman era. The legionaries typically carried their equipment on poles, known as "sarcinae, when marching. It carried their food, shield and kit-bag. They were the real ground pounders or as they called themselves - Marius Mules.

Pleased to see this 🤠 You gave me an idea I will try finding a staff with a forked end. I tried carrying a Y stick each prong 5 inches long and 2 hose clamps I could attach the Y to my straight walking staff. using the hose clamps sure I could lash the Y on but that takes time I may not have? also it is best to have a choice so a removable Y is nice to have But too heavy for the number of times I would want to use it. You might make metal Y fittings for sale?

Knot a bad ideer. Another handy thing about this setup for hauling meat. If you have to make several trips, you dont wanna leave the meat in your truck maybe cause of thieves n such. Also if you leave it on the ground any amount of time you feed the coyotes. So use this to get it close to your truck n hide it using the stick to set it up in a tree. Once back with final load you got it all ready to load n go. Just a thought. I had a friend help me blood trail a deer one day. While we were gone somebody stole a 4 point out of his truck. Hope it made em sick.

Sometimes it's helpful to be able to pull your stick out quickly. 😉 On the bags, color matters. Interesting concept, but I dislike it on several counts. First of, it relies on paracord, which is heavy for it's strength compared to more modern cordage(i.e. AmSteel, Zing It, Ect). Secondly, once strung, as a ridgeline,, it lacks both tarp mounting options,(unless you leave the ridgeline slack enough to push the ridgeline up though a grommet or loop), and if not, you still have to add tarp attachments after the fact, not slideable because they're trapped in their section by the knots. As intriguing as this design it, I'd still prefer using the Pathfinder Quick deploy ridgeline, as its just as quickly and quietly deployed, and likely even quieter as the tarp mounting points(prussic loops) are already incorporated.

Paracord can’t be beat if you factor usefulness, weight, and strength for what it costs. Holds 500lbs with minimal bulk for around ten cents a foot. Yes, there are newer high speed materials like dyneema out there but what do they cost. I’m not trying to tow a car, just holding up a hammock or tarp, and if haste is needed and it gets left in the woods I’m only out a buck or two for a whole ridge line. Also, I don’t think Blackie was talking about trying to attach a tarp to his daisychained line, but sliding the sticks in as rafters to pile debris onto for a debris shelter. If a tarp had tabs sewn on however, one could simply toggle them onto this ridge line or if it only has grommets simply push a bit of the line through and toggle it. First rule of bushcraft, make what you have work.
@ravenbarsrepairs5594
@ravenbarsrepairs5594 2 жыл бұрын
@@ostekuste3646 The good, high quality paracord, yes. But these days, the commonly available paracord has a much lower weight rating. Even the military spec paracord can have lower weight ratings depending on what grade you get. Only grades III & IV have a 550lb or greater breaking strength. Grade I only has a 95lb breaking strength. And that is breaking strength, with no safety factor involved.
