Blackout tailgate letters and emblems install | 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma

Today we are installing blackout emblems and tailgate letters on a 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma.

This can be done in minutes. It is such a simple install. the emblems are perfectly designed to fit directly over the top of the chrome decals. It's really as simple as removing the 3M adhesive backing and then apply the Blackout Emblem to the chrome decal.
The Tailgate Letters are only slightly more tricky because you actually have to put them into place. Just take your time and don't push them down firmly till you are sure about their fitment.

Installed this blackout kit on my white 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 this morning and it looks AMAZING!!! What a huge difference these few little items make. I found the kit without the extra pieces that I didn't need. It's a 9 piece kit that only includes the 6 letters for the tailgate, 2 Tacoma emblems for the doors & 1 V6 emblem. None of the other emblems that aren't on my 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 are in the kit. Your video made it look so easy that I'm installing them today myself instead of waiting for my hubby to do it. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻

If your doing this in the cold, in addition to cleaning with iso alcohol, heat up your emblems until they are slightly warm to the touch, it will adhere much much better as the adhesive will bond much better when it's warmer. And if you want to ever remove ANY sticker, price tag on hard serface, you can also use a heat gun or your wife's blow dryer! It won't leave any residue, and if it does just easily heat it up again and scrub with alcohol. Word of caution, do not get it burning hot especially on surfaces like car paint!

Question I have to turn to Tacoma lifestyle telegate insert. I just received no instructions in it. The letters are in a separate package. The sticky tape is in a separate package. What is the best policy? Put the sticky tape on the tail gate letters first and then attach the new inserts that way. Or put the sticky tape on the back of the letters and then put it on the tailgate. I just wanna make sure I set right? And they don't fall off, but it seems very odd that there's no instruction to the tape of separate. Thanks

Dude I didn’t even know you could get the ones that go on top of the chrome. I was going to take them off and replace using the fishing line method. This is so much easier.

Had you found solid replacements in black? Even the Toyota option from the factory is an overlay that mounts on top of the chrome originals. I guess you could remove and paint.

Is it possible to cut out the areas that are black but are a void in the chrome emblems? Like in the letters and in the 6. Looks cheap to me.

I don't think so, they have a lot of adhesive on them, and are a tight fit. They haven't fallen off yet

The Crome has the same adhesive so these stuck over the Crome and hood as strong if it’s a good summer day it’s better than a cold day

The kit sold by Toyota includes overlays for all chrome lettering for all trims; you end up with extras for the other trims. Mine did not include the individual TACOMA letter inlays for the lower tailgate letter indentations.

Just plastidip your emblems. Much cheaper and easier than this.

I can't imagine it's any easier then placing a sticker. I do agree that it's cheaper, but if you have to spend all that time masking the letters so you don't get over spray onto the body. When you could just pull the back off a sticker and place it over the emblem. Pluse these emblems are thicker and more resistant to chips and wear. The plasty dip will show the chrome underneath.
