Thanks for this video. It inspired me to make a little bit of extra effort to replace the chrome emblems with real black emblems instead of black overlays. I like the idea that I will be able to see my truck's quicksand color through the hole of the "A's" (and through the "6" for the V6 badge).

Looks good. Could you have used lacquer thinner to remove the old adhesive instead of the compounds? Were there old scratches that needed to be removed too?

Van Steel there were indents that likely would have been covered by the new ones but I removed them anyway. The whole truck would benefit from a pro detail.

You can use lacquer thinner but it tends to fog up the paint a little bit. Then you have to buff and wax it to try to bring it back to shine

This is exactly what I’ll be doing to my Tacoma. I have a Barcelona red and the chrome just ruins the look so I ordered black badges for it and I’m just waiting for them to get here

Good video. I'm planning on removing a plastic car dealership emblem off of my car's rear soon. This emblem has been on this car for 10 plus years. I think the heat gun might be a little extreme...but I would think using the warm air from a hair dryer first might be a good idea, before flossing off the emblem. Besides that, are you a fan of Goo Gone?

RealRuger.380 NastyNorth The overlays are extremely difficult to install in my opinion they also don’t really cover this type of emblems they are designed for the newer emblems that have an indent. At least that’s my experience. I thought about plasti-dip but when I found the emblems already done it was just a no brainer to buy them for me.

@@bobbygfl i just removed my driver/passenger door tacoma emblems...and it left a slight outline I guess of embedded dirt. The adhesive is completely gone. What products/process do you recommend to remove it to get original paint back? My truck is white. Btw

@@johneroyale I would compound it with a medium compound and a small orbital buffer with a sponge pad. A professional would likely wet sand it and then buff back to shine but the danger with wet sanding is you could blow through the clearcoat. A good compound followed by polish and wax should remove that indent.

It’s hard to because the sticky stuff pops right off the silver ones. You would have to get a new silver stamp off like Amazon if you want to go back

Ladies and Gentlemen this is NOT how you replace emblems. Taken off like a champ but no need to compound all that surrounding paint and moving tape 5 6 times. Apply tape under existing emblem. Then remove. Clean with a little wd 40. Wipe with alcohol. Apply new emblem over tape initially installed.
