If anyone comes to this video searching for an "algebraic ONLY" solution (no graphic, no line, just symbolic manipulation), you can find it here: > kzbin.info/www/bejne/kH_Xq4qmip1jY5I and just as reference (in case of the other video disappear), the explanation is something like this: x² -6x + 5 > 0 (x - 1) (x - 5); so the roots were: x = 1, 5 BUT, since we want the situations where the multiplication is POSITIVE, we have TWO situations here: a) both (x - 1) (x - 5) are positive x - 1 > 0 AND x - 5 > 0 x > 1 AND x > 5 so it needs to be > 5 (everything greater than 5 is also greater than 1) OR b) both (x - 1) (x - 5) are negative (since negative times negative will be positive; > 0) x -1 < 0 AND x - 5 < 0 x < 1 AND x < 5 so it needs to be < 1 (everything smaller than 1 is also smaller than 5)
