Blackpool Hotel Clearout: St Chads

I took a walk around St Chads terrace on Blackpool Promenade, which contains the St Chads Hotel. Workers are currently stripping the property to prepare it for demolition.

I think its a disgrace that our architectural history isn't preserved and funds aren't available to support the restoration of gems like these. I love old architecture- we should be saving it for future generations to enjoy. Makes me so sad 😭😭😭😭 love your videos Stephen, as always x

It’s not the ugliest building on the prom but rebuilding it as a more modern hotel is a good idea. I hope they add balconies as the prom is missing a trick as there’s only a few with them.

Another great video, sad to see the st chads hotel is being demolished however if it’s too costly to refurbish then demolition is the only way forward, we stayed in the lyndene hotel in March last year, one of the last hotels we stayed in before getting the touring caravan, we really enjoyed staying in the hotel, great staff, lovely meals and great entertainment too Keep up the good work with your vlogs

Stayed in st chads about 30yrs ago. Was a great hotel in its day, entertainment every night for kids and adults. Was run then by a very glam older lady who done a lot of the entertainment herself. Sad to see it go

A friend of mine owned a hotel that was later absorbed into the St Chads, they were normal boarding houses and over time were taken over so all that was left was the St Chads, Lyric and Regency.

it is so sad every year we used to with the school on Trips for the Week with Varitey Club Bus And they would take us And that The glenshee and St chads we used to stay as kids back in the 1980's It is sad to see an iconic place that we used to have holidays As Respite. As a child On the pleasure Beach days out. It is sad loss !!

Stayed on St Chads Road a few times over 40 years ago in boarding houses as they were called then & even stayed in the Regency flats on 2 occasions. As teenagers myself, my brother & my cousin used to go into the cafe ( later chippy ) & set a high score on the space invaders machine & pop in at the end of the night to see if it hadn't been beaten lol. We did this every day of the holiday lol. Thanks for this vid as it has brought back al ot of memories for this Glaswegian who used to holiday in Blackpool every year as a kid

Mr Wild Side, myself being a Black Cab Driver I notice these kind of things. When the hotel is finished that Cab Rank opposite is going to be a goldmine, if the hotel is going to be upmarket. P.S. in the vid @ 5:06 you can see where the original hotel finished with the red brick and decoration above the windows, and the extension with the grey finish and plain windows starts.

I watch the news every night and I think that this country has had it and then I watch your videos and what I regard as a British icon (Blackpool) is fighting back. I know Blackpool has had some lean times but I see the investment being put in and hopefully the boom time will be back because when I say Blackpool is a British icon i mean BRITISH because the many times I've been to Blackpool i always meet Scottish., Welsh and Irish so Blackpool is one of the few remaining places still flying the flag

I'm not for needlessly demolishing old buildings and I am not a fan of any modern architecture but in this case I have to say it's not the prettiest building on the front and over the years it's grown into a bit of a monstrosity so I doubt it'll be missed by anyone other than the people who have happy memories from there. I do however have concerns as to the building that will replace it! Great video again Steve cracking beard too!

I was close friends with those that owned the hotel next to the St Chads hotel. the block is 100% being demolished for a new hotel. Once it has been built the Lyndene is suppose to also be demolished shortly after the new ones completion. There will be 2 new luxury hotels eventually joined together with a skywalk.

These old blocks of hotels do need demolishing along with much of blackpool to make way for new 21st century homes and accommodation. It is much needed as much as people don't like to see change. All of blackpool needs redeveloping.

Lancs Live did report on St. Chads published 13th January regarding demolition, spokes person for Blackpool Council told Lancs Live no planning application had been received for demolition of St.Chads so have the owners got Council approval or not ?

Well, Blackpool Council didn’t even get planning permission for Christmas by the Sea. I think the developer is maybe looking at retrospective planning permission. That seems to be the way a lot of them work.

I think some places like the chads hotel need to come down and put up something new,. but the golden mile and the coral lit up make together that spot look like las vegas with the way they're lit up and I think when they take down the golden mile the coral is going to look lost in some way I just don't understand why the golden mile should go for another hotel there's plenty of them should have built if anything a new lit up modern arcade or something to draw people here seems to me there priority is all wrong in some spots of the promenade...?.john south shore...
