A big part of my childhood in the sixties. Used to walk round to Red Bank Rd with my uncle to shop when we were up for the lights every year from Birmingham He was the musical director at the ice show when they had live music He lived in Pennystone rd which were named after the rocks of the same name The tableaux were always spectacular on the cliffs Thanks for the memories

There is always something mystic with a view of dark clouds and dark sea you almost expect a pirate ship to pop up out of the sea, You are totally right about ye-olde fashioned bulbs they were deeper in colour and better on the eyes, I can remember when Bristol first used LED's Christmas lights everyone thought they'd forgot to put the lights up, You had a choice of white or white and in some places you even had white.

Great live Stephen, think the bispham end has the old atmosphere from years ago, harts amusements has been taken over. It was always a great little arcade and the new owners have carried on the same way with great staff etc.

Toponym. The area was first known as Corn Cheaping, a reference to the corn market on the site. The name Bull Ring referred to the green within Corn Cheaping that was used for bull-baiting. The 'ring' was a hoop of iron in Corn Cheaping to which bulls were tied for baiting before slaughter.

Sorry i missed the live stream Stephen ..im glad someone asked about the calendar 2025 as i was going to ask in comments lol you say its gone to print i do hope you took on my comment ages ago about having bank holidays and special dates such as christmas day put on it for next year if not no worries as i said i would be willing to pay the couple of quid extra for the cost on the caleldar if it cost you more to add those 😉 ...I will order one for myself as usual and an extra one for my mum (will be diferent postal adresess im down Bristol mum in manchester lol so will prob have to do 2 seperate orders) who still lives in manchester and dont go abroad anymore and has reverted to going to blackpool for a mid week holiday at the Ruskins shes been there twice this year with friends she used to go abroad with ..she is in her 70s now and since losing my dad a few yrs back it just the tonic she needs now and again to get her out and about ! As a kid in the 70s and 80s i allways loved the tableux section of the Iluminations they were and allways will be the highlight / big finale of the lights and im glad some of them still exist there from when i was a kid ( maybe not with bulbs like they used to be but with more sustainable light sources ..BUT cant beat the old classic Tableeauxs ( aprt from the one they sadly took away due to cancel culture!) you know the one i mean! 😉 i am actuly surprised the right on woke brigade havent tried to make the council get rid of the hawian one too as racist or cultural apropration! its all got well over the top these days sadly!
