Hiya Stephen. Blackpool needs three things in my opinion to boost its economy and they are a great market similar to the famous Bury Market, an arena that brings big named artists for concerts. Sporting events could happen too with maybe new ice hockey and basketball teams set up. And finally, commercial airlines doing routes in and out of Blackpool Airport. I think all 3 of these ideas would boost Blackpool incredibly.

@@dpld70 Sadly, I think Blackpool will soon be known as the Car Park Capital of the World, the way it's going ! Blackpool has got more tarmac than Heathrow Airport ! lol Come to Blackpool and risk getting a parking fine, whilst you buy your stick of rock and kiss me quick hat and fish & chips lol In every town and city you'll see parking tickets on car windscreens, no wonder shops are closed and town centres dead ! The Army of Traffic Wardens and expensive car parks are keeping people away. Where does the parking fine money go ? Obviously not towards improving the roads and potholes.

I think that's a great idea for Blackpool to have a big arena, it would attract more performers and bring more money to the town, look at how well Blackpool does when " Strictly Come Dancing" is in town, great idea 👍

Hi Stephen, Great idea an Arena for Blackpool, I can imagine the sign - The Stephen Cheatley Walk on the Wildside Arena lol, after all you've done to promote Blackpool ! Talking of signs, Bonny Street Market has or had all those painted ones around it, including the overhead one. I've been thinking for ages, why doesn't somebody rescue them ? as they are a bit of modern memorabilia relating to the market. They could go on the side of a building like the one opposite or even in Abingdon Street Market on a wall, somewhere they'll be seen. It's a bit of history that'll be lost if they end up as scrap ! That's the first time I've seen a 6ft 4ins man Limbo dance or Duck under a 6ft 3ins barrier. Lol ❤

An arena would work well in Blackpool, maybe one like the first direct in leeds, would help tourism during off season, surprised blackpool doesn't have one to be fair. Miss bonny street market though, wish they would bring it back, so many small businesses that used it

Blackpool may need an arena for big concerts etc but it certainly doesn’t need to be right in the centre of town. It’s crazy driving in and out of there, parking etc. They need to address the current problems first, do something with the run down areas, especially around central drive and put some investment into the central and south areas. Everything is focussed around the north xx

An arena would be fantastic for Blackpool however the council do have more pressing issues in improving the town for residents it's all well & good them instigating schemes & developments without any thought about what's left behind the Police station & Bonny St market being prime examples it's well & good building new buildings & attractions but leaving areas that look like a war zone isn't a good look at all either its all about the bigger picture imo

Loved Bonny St Market and Abingdon Street Mkt. Blackpool not the same without them .Making Abingdon Indoor Mkt into a multi food venue was the wrong decision . The markets are not only places to buy bargains but also to meet friends. I know we have to move with the times but the councils are leaving nowt for the older generation .

Geee Steve...Just how tall are you? I'm guessing 6'5-6' 6"! Ya know?...It's to bad that the UK voted to BREXIT: that old Bonny St. market could be turned into an International one! OR...an roller / ice skating rink! An areana wouldn't work in that general area: street couldn't handle the traffic because of width restrictions! It would have to be built much further east and near a rail line which is why i said that Blackpool needs to annex more land on the outskirts! look used to love the market, and actually bought something from it the year before it closed, but defo had its day and for me, the town made the right decision with the area in getting rid of it and the proposed plans. Well, if that happens now? they really need to forge on with what they were trying to do. 1 thing i would say about the markets is that the council could have relocated the market and actually lost an opportunity in a way cause they could have dressed up the new market area to be something unique or even traditional looking and actually make some kind of spectacle of it aswell as the traders could still trade. Wouldnt want a an arena in blackpool, think town should aim higher than that rather than more short term visitors just fleeting in and out
