Nice nostalgia trip there. Makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy memories of family holidays in Blackpool in the 1980's and sad that my Mum and Dad are no longer here. Was there recently and it's a pale imitation of the place it once was . Hopefully it can have a renaissance because it would be great to see it back to something like it's former glory.

Lived through this time in Blackpool. The 1980’s represented the last of the best decades for the Town. Times were better back then, I don’t care what anyone says. Like all decades, the 1980’s had its problems, but Blackpool was thriving and buzzing back then. The town had a record number of visitors in 1988. Look at all those shops. Where did they go! Great time to grow up, the best time in fact. I was very lucky. 1989 marked the beginning of the end for my great town, and for a multiplicity of different reasons, some political, some shifts in demand, whatever, the town has never recovered. Meanwhile, the region’s cities, no go areas in the 1980’s are awash with attractions, hotels and glass towers. What went wrong?

Cannot believe there is a photo showing Escott Estates, an Estate Agency on Church Street that was taken when I worked there on my first Youth Opportunities Scheme. That is amazing!!

Bond Street in the south of the town was a great little shopping area back then, Today it's mostly boarded up shops and gone very down hill. I still ♥️ Blackpool though.

Does anyone remember the action man display in Woolworths window in the 70s. Absolutely awesome.👍

Actually quite run down, reminds me of a place we have here in Christchurch called "New Brighton" was a seaside shopping mall of 5 or 6 blocks, was popular from 50s to 80s as it allowed Saturday shopping when it was banned elsewhere. Now its all sleazy and run down, homeless, dodgy pubs with pokie machines, $2 shops etc. $2 shop kiwi version of Poundland.
