You are extremly fortunate to have a site like that. We folks near the Calvert cliffs in Maryland have to work extremly hard to get half of what you got. Never complain about anything.

I love the colors on those teeth! Awesome site! I went diving in Venice on Saturday, but sadly I did not have luck finding megs that day. A few other divers found some frags, and one person found a 2"er, but it was pretty barren. I need a good Gulf storm before i go diving there next time ;) Happy Hunting!

TheDubstepGamer696 there is a creek at the corner of trolley road and dorchester road next to the pawn shop shopping center. you can find teeth in there at low tide, but don't bring any tools. digging is against the law. just look in the gravel on the bottom and the teeth will be mixed in there.

if you found a tooth then you were in the right general area. tip for creek collecting - go after a heavy rain as soon as the water is clear enough to see for a chance to find bigger / better stuff.

Do you think there would be any land sites in Virginia? Down close near the border for North Carolina? I'm 15 and want to start getting into fossil hunting, since I wanna be a Paleontologist. But the river where I find most of the shark teeth is always up sadly, the place where my mom found her huge Meg is now private property.
@blackriverfossils9 жыл бұрын
WeRNinjas28X7 you might be able to find teeth at Virginia land sites. Look for creeks, streams, ditches, quarries, and excavation / construction sites. for shark teeth, you'll need to be reasonably close to the coast. good luck.

I have thousands, but the largest is only the size of a quarter. All have been found on the beaches of Myrtle Beach, SC or mainly the east coast beaches of South FL.

Stephanie Inch it was a spot they did some digging but they are building now so there are no more teeth to find there. i didn't use anything except water to clean them.

Was it a building site? Can anyone go or do you need a permit? How did you know the sand they were using would have the fossils? What do you mean by formations?
@blackriverfossils2 жыл бұрын
the sediments under our feet were laid down over long periods of time, with the youngest being at the top and getting older the deeper you get. geologists can see differences in the dirt as you go down and each time they get to one deposited during a different time period, they give it a different name and i am referring to those, generally speaking. you'll also hear the term layer used interchangeably with formation. some formations have fossils in them, some don't. when I'm talking about hunting the formations, I'm talking about looking in the formations with fossils in them.
