I am transfixed each time I watch a video from you, Torbjorn. But this one took me to a whole new level. There are soooo many blacksmiths out there making blades, but too few showing great craftsmanship making and building other things. I've been a follower for several years now and you never disappoint. I'm very thankful you sacrifice your time for us. Thank you! This project is in my future. John is right, it came out perfect.

@hrxy1

@@mago_8145 no an inch is more organic in terms of proportion, as is a foot. Divisible by 6,4,3,&2. An inch&aquarter, is proportional to 1foot 3inches. An inch halfed is half an inch, halved is quarter, halved an eighth, halved 16th halved is a 32 balved is a 64th, its easier, and its always proportional to an inch and a foot. 3 dimensionally it's more pleasing to the eye, which is why modern cars, tvs fridges and all modern appliances look like shit.

This is so good on so many levels. The craftsmanship is methodical and thorough. Eg. the chamfers on the outside of the rivets vs. the flat finish on the inside give it that rounded softened feel. The Christmas theme and final fire make it feel comforting and warm. It's so good, I'll probably come back to watch it again and again. It's like blacksmithing ASMR.

Dude, that seemed like a ton of work. When you put the first rod back into the fire I realised the scope of what you were doing there - all these separate steps, so many of 'em, and you had to reheat it almost every time! With every time you put a stack of stuff onto the "finished" pile, you seemed more angry in the way you put them down ^^ I hope your family likes to huddle around it as well :)

@@torbjornahman Exactly. Complete the thirty-fourth difficult, complicated, aggravating piece with satisfaction. Then remember you still have four hundred and eight-one to go. (sigh...) And a deadline that disagrees more and more strongly with probable completion. Experience from my machinist days, of course. Very different, but still very similar, I'm sure. :)

really neat job ...thought for a sec the bolts were permanent ....then you went to the stage of flattering a small seat for the rivets .... shows how much work is needed to produce such a beautiful item ..thanks for posting

I know I comment a lot your videos, sometimes randomness, sometimes not. But I want you to know just how much I enjoy watching you do this. I live vicariously through you. Not sure if I ever told you but I've always wanted to be a blacksmith(insomuch as a weaponsmith and armorsmith are concerned), and I watch you make things with your hands and I realize it must be not only physically taxing, but mentally as well. The amount of mistakes you had to learn from to get to this point-I cannot begin to imagine. Watching you perform a near dead art is relaxing as well. Most would find the noise too much to say that. And while I don't fall asleep watching you, when I view you making things I imagine are either a spark of inspiration or comissions, I sometimes feel my anxiety leave me. I guess there's just something about repeatedly hitting metal.

Amazing. While staring at the finished piece, I seriously have to remind myself that I just witnessed it being created, from scratch.

What a beautiful piece of art! Magnificently constructed by a very skilled and talented craftsman. You sir are amazing. Thano you for sharing, my 16 year old son is learning so much more than I can teach him through your videos. I wish my body wasn't failing me so I could be in the smithy to guide him, but you are helping me more than you know and I am in your debt. I will make my prayers and keep you in them even after I leave this world to be with my ancestors.

Wow, that is beautiful! A lot of work, but it paid fully out. The rivets are looking really nice. Everything is symmetrical, round and fits together really well. A masterpiece!
