I decided I wanted the best table saw for my new woodshop, so I sold my Sawstop PCS and got a fully loaded 5hp Sawstop ICS with their large sliding table and the floating overarm dust collection. I changed the thumbnail after uploading, so that is why there is a bit of a confusing spoiler to the start of this.

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzbin.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Hey Scott. In my eyes, that's the bad thing you can buy. Space and money wasted. Buy yourself a German sliding table saw. From Felder / Hammer or Martin. You can work with it and not play. American table saws are garbage. If you want to buy one and need help, get in touch. Greetings from Germany.

@DW Palme That’s not right my friend. Please check out the Felder P C S system. You can see it on KZbin. After triggering, the saw blade can continue without damage. Maybe it isn’t junk, but it’s a diy saw.

Nice review, and tool. I can attest to the value of buying the best (if you have room and $$). Twenty five years ago I bought a Delta Unisaw (best in class at that time) and it is still going strong. I added an extension table and Biesmire fence (which your fence is based on) and later a drop down roller out-feed. I am sure your saw is better in many ways, but not by much. You will enjoy this for decades!

Very excited. I just purchased the ICS and waiting for it to arrive. Im a general contractor and have never built a cabinet in my life but I want to change that. My friend is a cabinet maker and Ive watched and helped him over the years, he told me to go big with the HP so I did. Good points were that I can grow into it and if I ever wanted to sell it there are lots of takers for a saw that good and that big. I have a good shop and look forwarded to piecing together a great little shop and I fully understand the value of good tools and this seems to be the center piece of a shop.

@austin357
@austin357 3 жыл бұрын
I asked him this before but he just said he wasn’t really interested in them which is his choice. I think every cut in this video would have been easier and faster on a euro slider with a larger blade, particularly I noticed the way the pieces caught on the table and didn’t pull back smoothly and then trying to cut 4” material in two passes is a hassle.
@stevewurster

@@austin357 I agree. I own a Hammer K3, and while it's not an "industrial" slider like a Felder or Martin, it's still light years ahead of a sliding attachment on a cabinet saw.

Christmas 🎄⛄🤶🎅🏼 I agree that their isn't much you can do to get a 100% dust free environment but from what I saw that was really amazing the setup and precise cuts. I also love the fact that you can adjust almost everything so you can have precise measurements. The quality before was awesome with "eyeballing" and tape measure but now you have a 3rd option that will absolutely bring the finished product to another level and increase the quality many times over. 15 years ago, before Sawstop, I was in the market for a replacement of my old Craftsman contractor's table saw. I had come into a nice chunk of money and was looking to do this time and be happy for the rest of my life. I was visiting Green Bay, Wi and found Woodworking Depot. At the time, they had one of everything from every manufacturer on display. The clerk steered right to a Delta Unisaw with the 5 HP motor. He was kind enough to give me some information on several others but he had me at "hello" with the Delta. If Sawstop would have been available, I probably would have bought it just for the safety factor but, doing some research on what was available then, it was the Delta....and then everything else. I bought the one with the 52 inch to the right of blade table. I still have it, use it religiously and that 5 HP motor has never once bogged down on anything I cut. Thanks to that guy at Woodworker's Depot, he saved me from buying the 3 HP motor and spending the extra bucks on the 5HP......I'm figuring that this will be the last table saw I'll ever have to buy!

I had a 5 hp powermatic 66 3 phase for 12 years and loved it. The weight and build were significant. However age and eye sight started to get into my head and realized that my insurance deductible was more than a new SawStop. After reading Chris Schwarz's review of the PCS, judged against his gold standard the Powermatic 66 I went with the ICS which addressed all the critiques Schwarz raised. After using it for 2 months now I like it WAY better than my 66 . The engineering on the different features are clever and fit and finish are top notch. I got the small slider as well . It's a little finicky but I am learning to use it and it is proving very useful.

You seem to think that everyone gets their saw for free and that nobody pays for their tools.. that’s pretty ignorant of how taxes work for one. If a person were to be gifted a product, they still have to claim the value; if they buy it but get to write off the expense because of the use as a video prop, it lowers their tax liability. Smart people know how to game the system and it isn’t from “free” tools.

Didnt know they were local to the PNW. You’ve turned me onto a lot of local places in the Portland area. Good on ya! I was able to pick up the same model with the cabinet maker’s micrometer fence, sliding table and the 6.5hp belt driven 240 3ph industrial motor. There are few better saws on the market….but it set me back two jobs!

If you want to stop a lot of the dust on the skim cuts, the best thing I have found is to add some long brush pile around the edge of the extractor hood. It wants to be about a 2" brush pile so it meets the table when cutting common board thicknesses. It will stop the dust deflecting out, but still allow airflow through it to the extractor arm. It improves overall performance even on normal cuts too. 👍

Christmas Day! Thank you for showing the sliding table…I’m waiting for my 3hp PCS 52” with the TSG-FDC to come in. One employee tried to talk me out of the slider but it was what I wanted and your video just enforced the need. I don’t think I need the industrial saw as you have as I’m not a professional. You’re absolutely correct that the employees at SawStop are top notch and they don’t receive any commission if you buy from them and we’re quite happy that I was buying from a local dealership here in N.C. thanks again!

Independence day. Congrats on the upgrade. I love my SawStop. The only thing I dont like about it is the cast iron table will rust just by glancing at it with perspiration on your hand. I've cleaned it and waxed it but it's just vulnerable. My old Rockwell was much more resistant to rust. Love your channel.

Awesome. About the instructions for your new table saw, well that is what supposed to be. Love the color coordinated with the parts. Agree, 99% of instructions on anything are either scant or if any, not in color and not specific so I usually end up looking for YTb videos a lot for better instructions. Yes, companies should emulate SawStop. May be one I get that table. Congratulations. 🎉

Darn, if I'd seen your saw for sale, I'd have upgraded my contractor sawstop in a heartbeat. I'm guessing you had a buyer ready, since I'd surely have seen a PCS show up for sale locally in my regular tool searches. And I agree with others here - my saw stop was the single most exemplary set of instructions and components for any object I've ever had to put together in any context - furniture, shop tools, musical instruments, whatever. I was impressed.

Christmas is the best! Hi Cam, I had the same issues with my fence stop measurement on a similar setup when i first started using it. The trick is to fully flip the stop over so the stop covers the measuring tape. e.g. flip the stop a full 180 degrees. The stop then perfectly lines up with the measuring tape. Hard to explain without a picture. Hope it makes sense!

What a surprise. I have had an ICS for a few years. Great saw. Glad to see the new manual. For anyone who got the small crosscut slider, there is no adjustment. Mine was out by 11 thou front to back. Sawstop was no help responding to my email with referring me to the Oz distributor who asked the same question and got a stupid answer referring to the large crosscut slider. After a series of emails via the local distributor to Sawstop and back I was advised that there was no adjustment for the small slider. Go figure. My solution was to brass shim the join to the table. Now within 2 thou. Pity Sawstop had not addressed this simple solution

Love your channel. Your close up camera work is aces. First, I can’t believe a saw with these capabilities is $5,000 plus extras. I have a 40 year old PowerMatic that cost $750 in 1980. Has none of the features of a Sawstop. But it is light enough and on wheels so for major work I roll it out on the driveway, dust collection solved. Oh ya, I live in San Diego so weather is not an issue. Sorry for everyone else.

And that Powermatic is probably now worth $1500+ I bet. I figure that not going to the E.R. would save $3000 or more, so it's hard to compare apples to oranges. But those Powermatics are terrific saws.

I just purchased the Industrial, 36 inch 5 hp saw, mobile base, overhead dust guard, and the slider for my saw. The slider, unfortunately did not arrive at the same time my saw arrived, and hopefully they will ship it free as it was a 6 hour round trip from Medford to Eugene. I have not set the saw up yet, as I am waiting on the slider to arrive. I want to see how much room it will take up in my garage/shop. The one thing I can say so far about this saw, is the quality that is packed into it. Just the feel, the touch, the weight of this saw tells me that yes, I probably bought something a bit off an overkill, but in truthfulness, I am already in love with it, and I still have not powered it up yet! The one thing I did, that I am sure is just a bit nuts, is I took excellent car wax, and waxed the outside of it, to help keep the dirt from building up on it. $7,000 is a bit to spend on a saw..but, I believe it is well worth it...my fingers sure are...I play the piano as well, and I have taken a liking to my fingers!

Cam, had one of these large sliders come back. Customer picked up the boxes, and tried to put it together. Guess what I have to do, tomorrow. Yep, try to figure out what the customer did wrong. Just by looking at the hardware packs, and the bolt markings on the other parts, it is going to be a "fun" day tomorrow. Manual says 5 to 10 hours to assemble, I will take at least 10 hours, to fix the various "issues" with this. The fence has numerous saw blade "incursions." I know you know what rotor blade strikes are. This has some. (Used to be a Chinook mechanic, in a previous life.) LOVE your videos! I've done all of TWO of these sliders, in 3 years. Oh, I HATE cutting rails and tubes! steve

Well, the instructions that you got with your new saw were far better than what I got with my 3 hp 'industrial' model. I went from an old Unisaw to the SS. I did like the dust collection on the Unisaw far better than what is on my SS. I modified it so I could put a 5 inch hose. Sent them an e mail asking for suggestions and never heard back from them. The over arm set up on my saw is pretty whimpy compared to what is on your saw. No 100% dust collection possible for a table saw. I have considered sealing the top off better and not using the zero clearance throat plate, which would help. Would have to leave an open port for the motor to get air to keep it cool. I may have to resort to figuring out the 5 cut method for tuning up my cross cut sled, and some day set up the slider....
