@@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D

I grew up in a house built in 1820, all out countertop surfaces were hard wood, mostly walnut, the wood was stained from daily use, was gouged, burned and in some areas worn, but it was so beautiful. Our home was featured in Country Home magazine, as my mom is also an artist that painted historic homes around East Berlin, PA. The counters took center stage.

That sounds awesome! Do you remember which issue it was? I have quite a few historic neighbors, 1820s-1850s being the most frequent. Most still have original features and are AMAZING to see.

10 years ago I wouldn't even be impressed with any of this. Now I'm just salivating at how legit that set up is. Nice work!

Wood looks so natural, and it just pops if it is done right ( like your work), so I would go wood. Nice Job! 👍

9:39 Actually, I'm enjoying the narration and the fact that you concisely explain what you're doing instead of playing free-range music or trying to be zany or whacky.

No wood. I started watching this video expecting the usual short, utilitarian commentary with some work sounds in the back and instead I got a lot of laughs and a really entertaining voice over, I congratulate you for being this skilled both in woodworking, and in entertainment. You sir, have more than earned my subscription.

Excellent work my friend. Brought a tear to my eye. My grandpa was in the carpenters union for 40 or 60 years, can't remember. He passed away 3 years ago and all his kids sold his equipment, but I love to watch others excel at this. Thanks

i was skeptical of the big "hole" in the wood originally, but simply filling it in with black works well, especially since the wood is already so dark after getting treated! wonderful craftsmanship!

Not Wood... But wood for everything else! I'm not a woodworker, I am 67... watching all of your videos.. Love the running commentary.

I was shocked when I heard the price of such a countertop at first, but after seeing all the hard (and beautiful) work you put into it, I now realise how these beautiful ornaments garner their well-deserved prices.

I will never do wood so long as my children live with me (they're 8 and 10 right now). However, I love doing tables and small projects with resin and your work is absolutely incredible! The attention to detail is top tier, and your techniques are just so effective and certain! You have absolutely earned a sub!

Since you asked for my advice, I would have done one extra thing: send the client the MDF sample cut by the CNC company so he can check that it fits before making the final cut. If the drawing had an error, better to find out before the bit starts spinning.
@leatheraccessories6462 жыл бұрын
Correct! I make granite countertops for kitchens, among many others, but in kitchens I always work according to the template, this was not the case, if the owner took the measures, he assumes the risk in case of errors ... but for U-shaped countertops or L and mounted on the wall, a template is an ideal and mandatory thing

I would have wood counter tops if I had a cabin, but in an everyday home with kids, I think I would have to go with something a bit more practical. Great video, I'll tune in for more in the future!

Stuck around for the finished product, wasn’t disappointed. Came out so beautiful. I have a great piece of oak I’ve been wanting to use for a coffee table but it has a hole in it I was going to have to contend with. I was thinking of cutting it out and making two end tables. I’m now looking at Super Clear because of you. Thanks for the tip.

Just WOW! I realize this message is being sent 2 years after the build, (I'm always late to the party) but I can't thank you enough for having NO background music. Many KZbinrs add music to their drops at the expense of any verbal descriptions. Background music in videos like this is simply evil. Your narration was perfect!

Beautiful work! To answer the question "Would or wouldn't wood?" - I would go with "Wouldn't" for a kitchen island. What you did in this video is a masterpiece but even if it was a regular piece it would really need to be pampered if it was to be preserved. Table, bar top or pretty much anything except for a cooking surface, especially warm kitchen - this is the way to go for style points.
@JayDee-xj9lu2 жыл бұрын
I have the liquid glass as a finish and you don't really need to pamper it. It is so tough. You can always sand it and refinish it. If you have a granite top and place something hot or oily on it, it could be ruined for life. I've seen a $20,000 granite top and it had a large circle permanently etched into it.
@diggerpete93342 жыл бұрын
Having heat insulated place mats for kitchen utensils when cooking to preserve the wood. But yeah, for a kitchen to be function over form that wood would mark or dent very easily. At $15000 I'd have to have a cheap counter top to use instead.

From a craftsman thats been working with every conceivable type of wood on this planet, to hear another craftsman talk throughout his entire video is absolutely extraordinary. Those little tips and your knowledge is amazing. In a world where we have learned to be a cold and unconnected to eachother, your passing of information and your craft is absolutely necessary. How can your trade be passed from one to another unless you actually speak to eachother? Keep up the great work and continue your magic brother. And thank you from one Master craftsman to a absolute true Master craftsman as you are. Yes, I now have hit subscribe as well as like on ALL your videos. Keep them coming and don't EVER stop sharing all that you know and are will to share with us.

I loved the fact that you speak the whole time and explains what you are doing. Great job on both the video and the countertop! And I wouldn't have wood countertops, have tried granite and I just feel that they are better for me in general.

Yes, i would consider a wood countertop. I have quartz now, for the past 14 years, and love it. Surprisingly, quartz has made me appreciate other materials, and i have imagined kitchen tops in concrete and wood, among others. Great job. Love your artistry!

To the friend who would put a layer of epoxy on the wood countertop "to encapsulate it", i wish i could experience both, protecting it, and another experience of letting it live with every dent, chip and scratch of my existence.
