@@JaiHylRubis Yes in my younger and more able days I used to love doing the odd pieces of joinery and surprised myself on how well I could make things like rail and post doors blanket boxes out of recycled timber but my arthritis has caught up with me and my large if not basic machinery now lies idle and I hope one day my son will use them when he gets the time as he is quite good at picking things up. I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? Plus the fact that you know that the things you have made are perfect and not just thrown together like some factory made furniture.

Surprisingly some of them held amazing grain behild the layer bleached by sun and weather. Some of them had sawmarks that came out after getting some varnish on it, but honestly in some cases these look quite good.

@Chris____.
@Chris____. 3 жыл бұрын
@@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D

From a craftsman thats been working with every conceivable type of wood on this planet, to hear another craftsman talk throughout his entire video is absolutely extraordinary. Those little tips and your knowledge is amazing. In a world where we have learned to be a cold and unconnected to eachother, your passing of information and your craft is absolutely necessary. How can your trade be passed from one to another unless you actually speak to eachother? Keep up the great work and continue your magic brother. And thank you from one Master craftsman to a absolute true Master craftsman as you are. Yes, I now have hit subscribe as well as like on ALL your videos. Keep them coming and don't EVER stop sharing all that you know and are will to share with us.

My parents have a giant wood slab island countertop, so, would have wood! The rest of their counters are stainless steel so there's durable counters for pans and mess, and a nice island that basically doubles as a breakfast bar. Mum recently refinished the slab with a polyurethane that protects the wood and makes it much more durable I think.

Beautiful work! To answer the question "Would or wouldn't wood?" - I would go with "Wouldn't" for a kitchen island. What you did in this video is a masterpiece but even if it was a regular piece it would really need to be pampered if it was to be preserved. Table, bar top or pretty much anything except for a cooking surface, especially warm kitchen - this is the way to go for style points.
@JayDee-xj9lu
@JayDee-xj9lu 2 жыл бұрын
I have the liquid glass as a finish and you don't really need to pamper it. It is so tough. You can always sand it and refinish it. If you have a granite top and place something hot or oily on it, it could be ruined for life. I've seen a $20,000 granite top and it had a large circle permanently etched into it.

Having heat insulated place mats for kitchen utensils when cooking to preserve the wood. But yeah, for a kitchen to be function over form that wood would mark or dent very easily. At $15000 I'd have to have a cheap counter top to use instead.

I Wood - or is it Would?! Woodworking is a very recent interest of mine, and as a result, I've tried to follow and watch several different KZbin accounts other than yours. Whilst my viewing experience is not exhaustive, I must say that so far, I definitely prefer your channel and your videos by far! Appreciate your self-deprecating sense of humour, and your honest, no-nonsense approach to your craft. Your successes are spectacular, your failures are often funny, but what never changes is your passion, your attention to detail, your commitment to doing your very best, and your willingness to always learn and improve your skills. Thank-you for what you do, and keep on making your videos your way - they're awesome, and really are my go-to for a relaxing, informative and enjoyable end to my day :)

Since you asked for my advice, I would have done one extra thing: send the client the MDF sample cut by the CNC company so he can check that it fits before making the final cut. If the drawing had an error, better to find out before the bit starts spinning.

Correct! I make granite countertops for kitchens, among many others, but in kitchens I always work according to the template, this was not the case, if the owner took the measures, he assumes the risk in case of errors ... but for U-shaped countertops or L and mounted on the wall, a template is an ideal and mandatory thing

I am a maker. I would and do have wood countertops. The finishes for wood are beautiful and very durable. If you do have a disaster moment on wood countertops it is fixable. We usually give maintenance and care instructions to the client and simple instructions on how they can make minor repairs to damage. Great video. Don’t worry about the talking. It’s intuitive to us makers. It’s all about the small tips that come unknowingly to those that listen.

I've seen it all done it all, and yes I would love to have wood counter tops but only if it's finished like you did in this video with a A-B epoxy finish. I use these products frequently with incredible results, Great job on the beautiful work you did here!
