Blackwood Brothers

An early Blackwood Brothers record from the 50's. This features first tenor Bill Shaw, second tenor James Blackwood, baritones R. W. Blackwood and his brother Cecil on different recordings, and basses Bill Lyles and J. D. Sumner on different recordings. Although pianist Wally Varner is shown on the jacket, the pianist is Jack Marshall, one of the best accompanists in Southern gospel music.

Well, this brings back memories! Dad was song leader in our little country church, and I grew uo with Blackwood Brothers and many Southern Gospel groups. What comfort and encouragement! I remember all these. Wish they included lyrics! Thanks for sharing...

"PRECIOUS MEMORIES" was sang by the Blackwood bros. @ the closing of Glady's Presley's funeral in 1958 in Memphis at graveside. She was a member of their church & this was her FAVORITE SONG. It's written that when they started a young Elvis threw his self on her casket... 😔 "I'm redeemed", "Precious Lord take my hand" & "In the Garden" were also performed.

Love the Blackwood Brothers: Met them at church in Joliet, IL and again at Madinah Temple in Chicago, IL I especially like James B. singing the Little Boy in the Carpenter Shop. He also sings one about Elijah and Eligah: Have you heard those? Also there is a singer named Dwayne Friend who sings a song with these words: It's a battle field brother not a recreation room it's a fight and not a game! Can you find that one?
