I have bladder cancer. I am a 75 year old female and never had any of those risk factors.I had a turbt procedure twice, the first time to take out the tumor and the second to see if any was left behind, which there was none. Mine was high grade, but only on the lineing. My doctor calls it medium grade. It has been almost a year and a half and I will finish my bcg treatments in Jun and so far it has not come back.

I had bladder cancer at 76. They got it in time. But I found that Cystoscopy to be extremely painful. What the hell? The only way I'll have it done again is if they knock me out. And it hurts like hell every time you pee plus bleeding for about 2 weeks. Nothing simple about it.

I left Chu Lai, Vietnam, in November1969 as a 24yo. (Agent Orange) and was treated for bladder cancer on New Year's Eve in 1975 for what the Doctor said was a grade two polyp. I have lost track of how many cystoscopies I have had, but it has never recurred. I will be eighty this year, I can say, get it checked if you see blood, it probably saved my life.

My bladder cancer was caught early, the result of a CT scan in preparation for treatment for prostate cancer. Being a bit more dangerous, the bladder cancer was treated first. Surgery revealed superficial cancer and they were able to remove it. I had the BCG treatments afterwards. I opted for radiation for the prostate. Nine years later, I go for an annual scope and usually have mild conversation while it is done. It's over before I know it. I tell every male I know to get an annual physical that includes a PSA test. I had no symptoms whatsoever. My prostate cancer was suspected with a mildly high PSA and a biopsy in the doctor's office confirmed a small amount. Had it not been for the prostate cancer, the bladder cancer might have grown. Great video! Early early early testing! Love your channel!

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in October 2020. It was a medium size tumor and was removed, but returned a few months later. The second was a small tumor and was removed and has not returned. I have been receiving BCG treatments over the years, but did not receive one this past October because the cystoscopy looked good. The next cystoscopy is this May, so hopefully it will be clear. My doctors recommended bitter greens and lemon juice which I have been doing. I quit smoking over 50 years ago, but did smoke about 1 to 2 packs of cigarettes a day for around seven years. I've been around 2nd hand smoke more then I would like, though new laws have made it less so. I also have been using HEPA filters for the past few years even before 2020. Hopefully May will be a good month. Thank you for covering this disease.

Diagnosed at age 55 with a low grade carcinoma in my bladder after peeing pure blood. Scary moment, but Dr was quick to remove it. Did the BCG treatments once a week for about 2 months, then a cystoscope every 3 months, then 6 months and now every year. No reoccurrence and am thankful to my urologist for staying on top of it. Don’t ever be afraid to see a urologist. 👍

Go to part naturopath Dr, she told me right away what am I suppose to eat and change your diet it’s a big factor. Eliminate any type of citrus, tomatoes, caffeine like coffee or tea or any soda, spice except cayenne pepper. You will feel big difference. Try to avoid eggs and milk. As well I take DGL tablets to calm my bladder. It’s really big difference after I followed all this. Just want to help you I understand your pain :)

The discussion in this video pretty much describes my experience exactly. I just "celebrated" my 20th year of annual cystoscopy. Symptom at age 57 was (a lot of) blood in my urine after running marathon training sessions. It was diagnosed and the polyp was found to be cancer, but thankfully superficial; it was removed and I was back to running after 2 weeks to allow the minor day surgery to heal. Over the next few years and cystoscopies every 3 months, the cancer returned 3 or 4 more times, each time a smaller polyp. Eventually graduated to cystoscopies every 6 months then annually. After 7 years of nothing, a very small polyp was again found and removed and have been clear now for almost 10 years. My urologist has suggested we may stop annual cystoscopies in a few years if everything remains clear. I often joke with him that by now I could probably do my own annual procedure:)

In the UK, the biggest hurdle to getting an appointment is often the GP receptionist. Depending on who answers the phone, you may have to practically beg for a slot. If that doesn’t work, the best option is to go in person-where the staff are usually much more helpful. But not everyone thinks to do that, and some might simply give up. They say, ‘You are in charge of your own health,’ but the system doesn’t always make that easy.

One of my uncles developed bladder cancer at age 65, just at he was retiring in the mid 1970's. They removed his bladder and he used an exterior bag from then on. He lived to be 90 with no more cancer recurrence. I remember he smoked and was overweight when he got the cancer diagnosis. After the surgery he stopped smoking and became very fit. Thanks for the info on how bladder cancer is found and treated today. It seems that we should have less of it - I hope so.

I was diagnosed with urothelial cancer 5 years ago. It was treated as a bladder cancer. I had blood in urine, got it checked immediately. Thru CT scan, they found small mass on right ureter (tube from kidney to bladder). I had several rounds of chemo then had to have ureter and kidney removed. I have a cystoscopy every year now to check for any recurrence. So far, all clear. So important to get any blood in urine checked out!! This was a great video!!

Good stuff! After having a robotic prostatectomy 14 yrs ago I've had 5 cystoscopys. The procedure itself wasn't traumatic because I knew what it entails. My urologist became suspicious after I was having UTI's. At first I wasn't informed what procedure needed to be done-just told I needed a check up. Some men don't want this type procedure unless under general anesthesia. I had a TURB 4 yrs ago under general anesthesia after a few lesions were discovered during a cystoscopy which were benign. Urination after the TURB was painful for approx. 2 days. Had I known I would've asked for an internal catheter after the TURB. I'm ok now. I've learned to empty my bladder completely to avoid UTI's.

My husband was 47 when he was diagnosed with high grade bladder cancer. The first thing the Drs said was do you smoke? and he never has. He had no risk factors. The first symptoms were blood in the urine and pain . He had a round of BCG but did not work for him. He had his bladder removed and a neo bladder made from a piece of bowel. He is cancer free after 17 years but having a neo bladder does change your life but he is happy he’s got it and has learned to live with it. Thanks Docs for some good information.🙂

I’m going to have my third turbt tomorrow in 3 years. Have done the bcg and it kept me cancer free for 21 months. The first tumor was huge, taking up one third of my bladder. I can vividly remember the bladder spasms from the Foley catheter with that first surgery. They were crippling. I had a second recurrence 3 months later and because there wasn’t as much scraping I tolerated the catheter better. The current tumor is less than 1 centimeter. It popped up in the three months since my last cystoscopy. I pray that this current tumor will be only superficial (transitional) and that I will sail through. If it’s down to my bladder muscle wall then that’s a whole new issue. Thank you doctors for some great and useful information.

My dad had bladder cancer and it ended up spreading to one of his kidneys. he then had to have his kidney removed. Later it spread to the second kidney. He started dialysis and his body didn’t handle it very well and he ended up passing in less than a year after starting dialysis. Back story, he actually had bladder cancer for many years (the polyps kept returning) and he WOULD NOT STOP SMOKING. He was told over and over that smoking is one of the big causes of his cancer polyps and the cancer ultimately taking over and spreading to his kidneys.

Great video as usual! I went through the saga a few years ago. I knew something was wrong due to being extremely tired when I golfed. It was obviously a stressful time. I was fortunate in having top notch Vancouver doctors. Mine turned out to be only on the bladder surface which could be essentially scraped off. However, the cancer had moved up into one of my kidneys which meant they had to remove the affected kidney. Three operations and two follow-up check-ups later I am feeling 100% with no long term effects. Extremely lucky!!!! Definitely a wake up call as I had previously been healthy throughout my life other than sports injuries. Am 70 years old. I have never smoked and stopped drinking ten years earlier as part of an effort to generally get healthier. I have no idea how I got the cancer!!

I'M a 73 year old, never smoked male, and my bladder cancer was caught early after having a UTI and getting sepsis at age 70. I had no previous symptoms. Everything said in this video relevant. I worked with chemicals in the US Navy and worked in tire, paper, and chemical plants my whole carrier. I went through all the steps mentioned and have had 10 cystoscopys and have transitioned to every six months. They've become routine, and I will be having another in 2 weeks. It's better to catch it early, and I'd tell everyone not to put off being checked.

Unfortunately my Dad did not survive his bladder cancer. When he presented with blood in the urine the doctor told him it was stage 4 after being tested. They recommended full removal for his bladder which he did, and he would wear an ostomy bag. There was a problem with the surgery. He was in pain and couldn't eat or digest food. Come to find out, they twisted his intestines during the surgery. He had to go back into a second surgery to correct that .After that surgery, his chest kept filling up with fluid so he went back to the hospital and removed the fluid with a syringe. He did that a couple of times. He wasn't doing good, and eventually they told us the cancer spread and recommend at home hospice. He lasted 4 months and then passed away. That was in 2005. I think about what we could have done to save him to this day. I saw this post and had to watch. I wish we had this DR. Doctor Peter Incze. He seems very knowledgeable. P.S. He did chemotherapy somewhere during that time.

bravo video. thank you. i had presented with gross hematuria - and I mean red wine - completely painless. during the cysto - i was found to have a bladder diverticulum (a sort of mickey mouse ear pouching from the normal bladder wall). in this diverticulum, there was a tumor. afterwards, I had a turbt - and the tumor was removed. by the grace of god and mother nature - it was tested to be benign. my urologist asked about smoking many times - but fortunately I never did. he did a double check - and while i was under the turbt, and interviewed my wife about my past smoking - which was negative.

So I asked my doctor if he thought it was a good idea for me to get the galleri test and he said no. What gives! Why wouldn't I want a noninvasive test to detect many cancers. Do you guys have any ideas?

In the past I’ve had heavy bleeding from the bladder. Luckily only bladder stones. It was nasty though! I told the Dr my bladder gave birth to something! 😊❤️🇨🇦. The only problem I’ve had with cystoscopy, was having to get down a hallway to get to bathroom to empty the bladder. If I have to have one again, I’m taking change of clothes just in case

This is such an interesting video with very amazing information! When we have regular lab work done, does the urine test provide the necessary alerts for problems or cancer in the bladder? Or is a different test needed? I don't have blood in my urine but I'm just wondering if the standard urine test will show markers for other important things. I know they're always checking the kidneys when there's excessive use of Tylenol but how many other things can be found in that standard test? Your videos are not only helpful but they make us curious about other things concerning our bodies! I keep thinking about the quote, "Stay curious my friend!" and your videos are a good example of keeping us curious about learning how to be healthy and aware of how to take care of our bodies and what to do if something shows up that could be a problem. I'm always curious and when I watch your videos, I'm anxious to learn from you! I've seen comments over the years and it's clear that a lot of people are paying attention and getting checked out when you explain a certain condition, only to find that they have it but were saved because of you! I'm sure you two are great surgeons but you're amazing teachers too! Your videos are so informative and you give us vital knowledge to be able to take care of ourselves! Your sense of humor is a great addition to your videos and that makes you relatable to your audience! You're so generous to spread this knowledge with us and make us more aware of taking care of ourselves by listening to your advice. Thanks for sharing another great and informative video and showing us that you have our back!👍

You said smoking increases the risk factor, what about vaping? My son will be turning 40 this spring and has finally stopped smoking cigarettes but unfortunately has started vaping trying to reduce his desire to go back to cigarettes. I told him while I’m happy he gave up cigarettes I really want him to work off of vaping/smoking of any kind. I have to believe vaping would also increase his risk for cancer, be it badder or any other type.

At 51 I saw two tiny little flecks of blood in my urine, totally painless. It was Cancer even though I have never smoked. However I did experience a lot of second hand smoke. I was fortunate and caught it early and have been dealing with it for sixteen years now. The cystoscopy is not fun but really more uncomfortable than painful.

@BalancedBloodSugar it does. The inflammation on any organ can cause pain, swelling which causes more pain and not being able to use the bathroom very well. Don't drink Gatorade, or any sports drink. Drink cranberry juice without the added sugar. Watch the amount of coffee or teas , if you do drink a bottle of tea, dilute it half and half with water. Drink good water., and lots of it. 🦊🤗

@@foxiedogitchypaws7141 Cranberry juice is much too acidic for anyone with bladder interstitial cystitis… Learn that 30 years ago. I googled my question about the possibility of interstitial cystitis leading to bladder cancer and the answer from different website said no… Thank goodness. I learned 30 years ago that by taking the depression medication Cymbalta blocks the pain of interstitial cystitis. My psychiatrist, when I told him I no longer had bladder pain since starting Cymbalta just smiled at me and said, it’s not approved in the United States for treating bladder pain However it is approved in Europe! Schistosomiasis is a parasite borne by snails in slow moving fresh waterways…for example some parts of the Nile more susceptible than others . The canal system in Egypt, while a great idea for crops, has proved to be problematic for humans. The parasite is not absorbed through GI system bit through skin contact with infected water.

I had bladder cancer in 2006. Luckily it was caught early from a routine yearly prostate checkup which revealed a microscopic amount of blood. It was not visible with the naked eye. Again, this was done by a urologist and not a GP. My GP would have never ordered a urinalysis as part of a yearly checkup. The urologist ran a number of test to find out the cause of the hematuria. None of the non-invasive tests revealed the reason for the blood so he performed a cystoscope. I had a superficial cancer the size of a 50 cent piece that he said had to be resected. That was done in 8 days with no radiation or chemo. I had to have a cysto done every 3 months for a couple years and then every 6 months for a couple more years and then every year up until 2018 when the urologist stated I did not have reoccurrence in 10 years so he did not see a need for any further cystos. Interestingly, I am not a smoker. A little background; this was in a highly industrial area of the midwest where a ton of different chemical were used and many men worked around these chemicals. I did not work in any of those factories. He asked if I ever worked in a car body shop or painted cars. I had for the previous 20+ years done this kind of work as a hobby on classical cars. For this geographical area with high industrialization he stated that the majority of bladder cancer patients he sees have a history of not only working in those factories but, interestingly, many worked in the painting section of the facility. He stated the paint reducers have really bad chemicals in them and this was likely the cause of my bladder cancer. He advised to stop this hobby. Which I did. I was only 51 at the time of diagnosis and it scared me pretty good.

I immediately saw my urologist and had the outpatient operation within a week. Then I had quarterly visits for several years and no recurrence was detected. I’ve not had any symptoms since however can the cancer come back?

Quite by accident an IV dye contrast with ultrasound checking circulation in my body turned up a mass in bladder. My dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer 08/23 the tumor was too large to remove. Also chronic kidney disease. He was 79 yrs. old and although I asked about a bladder removal, they were opposed (I suspect due to his age). He went through radiation treatment which shrunk the tumor. He has since been on immunotherapy treatment and will be 81 next month. I suspect they are prolonging his life conservatively in the least invasive manner.
