Those artists and programmers were really good at making a limited colour pallet and then building great art from it, a restricted pallet and pixel count make for much more solid looking art. Many psudo retro games miss that point and use giant pallets and pixel counts that almost feel right but miss the point, often (like shovel knight) they use an 8-bit style with a screen resolution more suited to 32-bit games, it looks wrongs, making art look dumb when it should squeeze every pixel out of the resolution, then it looks tight.

@@steve43ful yes, in 4:3 aspect ratio it would look much better. The pixels should have a square shape, rather than horizontally stretched out like that. But some people seem to prefer a stretched out image, I don't know why. Or maybe they simply just don't care?

@@mikeg2491 IMO Genesis looks better than SNES. Pros and cons though with both, SNES has the layer tricks built into hardware but the Genesis is a faster machine, when there are special effects on the Genisis its all down to fantastic programming, but on SNES effects are overused and by far less better programmers. Genesis sounds better too depending. Castlevania bloodlines for example.

In the real arcade this was a hell of game, each enemy die after 4-7 hits, and most of them can block or parry your attacks,it's a slow paced game compared to Golden Axe,you need to be careful with each step because if enemies storm you, you're pretty dead

With only 61 colors on-screen? Unlikely. The SNES with its 256 colors would have been a more suitable candidate to have this ported over like they did with Undercover Cops (also by IREM) which was a fine game!

​@@alxxzindeed, a SNES port would've been very interesting. But it would've been an early release ('91), and by this time they were quite unexperienced with succesfully programming the SNES so they would have had problems with displaying all the sprites on screen without causing major slowdown. Seems like later on in '94-'95, they found out how to make use of all the SNES' amazing capabilities and how to avoid slowdown issues.

Nice showcase of the environments and spritework, and using the dual-inputs is kind of a fun gimmick, but the cheat/tool-assisted/whatever one-hit-kills make it difficult to appreciate the boss fights. Turn on God Mode if you must, but at least give the game room to breathe.

Nice little sword and sorcery side scroller-- but the ending was a little underwhelming. The viewer is expecting some kind of huge final battle and with a giant boss with multiple stages but that fight never comes. I feel like the viewer would have benefited from seeing the bosses actually fight an extended battle with you. Most of the time you beat them so fast (the bosses were going down with one or two strikes) that we never got a feel for how deadly the bosses actually were. This game should be redone in the modern era and retouched and made harder. Extra stages perhaps?
