An "old" but real informative video, much appreciated.

This was helpful there are some lightsaber companies that dont have cover tech wheels or d Ring options and some people have use retention screws as a alternative I might use this technique to make one on the pommel so I can wear the lightsaber

Rob...true genious you are. It looks So simple put that way.

Just a suggestion, but often times in a soft material such as aluminum, a coarser thread, such as an 8-24 (although it is an odd size) tends to wear less because there is more "meat" on each individual thread.

+Tom Sullivan I always advise experimenting to find what works best for you. 8-32 is more common, easier to find a variety of screws.

Would you do 2 functional retention screws if the emitter is flat across like Lukes?

I have seen lamps and other items using retention screws in three's approximately 120 degrees apart. Is one screw pressing against the wall bettter for the sabers that 3 screws?

Hello Rob, I was hoping you could offer some guidance as to the sizes of the vices you use (small and large)?

so I have a sf oracle and the hole for the retention screw has widened to were the screw want stay. is there anything i can do to fix that other than replacing the screw with a larger one or drilling and taping a new hole on the other side of the Emitter pommel?

So your using a 1/16 screw bit, a 1/8 next, then a 8/32 tap?
@17ian669 жыл бұрын
I was at my local hardware store and I saw a drill bit that has the 8-32 tap built into it (essentially drilling and tapping in one step). Would this work, or like many "X-in-1" tools, would it do neither job very well? I believe the brand was Dewalt if that matters.

+17ian66 I wouldn't use it. I tap by hand - using a drill would probably damage stuff
@17ian668 жыл бұрын
+Rob Petkau Thanks for the input, and apologies for the late reply. The bit did end up working for me (I used it for an LED retention screw hole in a Graflex 2.0 build, and the moment I was done I got your response), but it did stick a little bit coming out so I'll be going with hand tapping in the future. Especially if the hole is going to be on the outside of a hilt (as opposed to the Graflex 2.0's internal blade holder).

I was wondering if you know for sure that it's a 1/16 that you used to drill the initial hole? I plan to make a retention screw hole that's more convenient for my saber today. I know that the actual tap end is 8/23 if I'm not mistaken.

+Steven Perez 8-32 is a common thread size. You can look up the ideal drill bit size to go with that. A pilot hole is a smaller drill bit size just to get the hole exactly where you want before you drill with the correct size

How can you tap a straight hole with an xy vise?
@MadcowGenesis8 жыл бұрын
Same as this video
@patrickhook44248 жыл бұрын
+Rob Petkau oh I thought you were implying that an xy vise would make it easier to tap with. Is their anything i can use to guarantee a straight tap?
@MadcowGenesis8 жыл бұрын
There may be a way with a drill press, but other than than close will have to be good enough Unless you have a CNC machine.
