Ramble! I think recurves are fantastic for cutting tasks. My archangel cuts like a demon and it’s easy to open boxes without damaging the contents inside. Would love to own a Battle someday because I think that blade shape is much more practical than people imagine. Great vid Dirk!

Ya know I am all about the ramble. For me personally the overall aesthetic of the blade is what draws me to it. I have had specific tasks that I preferred a certain blade shape better than others but it usually isn’t a deal breaker for me. Enjoyed this one 🤘🤘😎

Love these kinda ramble sessions. I haven’t been in this knife game for long, but I came in hard. Went through phases of only drop points, wharny and Sheepsfoot blades. Ive since expanded to all kinds of blades, and I’d love to add the RJ Martin Overkill as my recurve option!

i like hawkbills for those "just the tip" situations where you don't want to overpenetrate. the tip is already pointed at a helpful angle in relation to the handle, and it has the same advantage in pull cuts as a recurve tanto. the dinosaur-claw aesthetics on some of them are also pretty fun, like the caswell morphing karambit or the pinkerton inversion.

I have a lot of knives with blade shapes that I like. But I never found a blade shape that I truly loved until I got a Spyderco Endura Wharncliffe in K390. I reground it to 0.012" BTE, and turned the ricasso into more sharpened edge. It's now nearly 4.5" of simple straight cutting edge with a sharp point, and it's been my only carry for a huge 2-year house remodel. Seki City Spydercos have always been function first, second, and third. But my beat to hell wharnie Endura is even more than that. Pure function, and it rules.
@DirkWerning I guess my point is that we can love a shape's aesthetics, and that's cool and fun, but always fleeting. When we find a shape that truly functions the best for us, all that aesthetics stuff becomes fluff.

I love a trailing point/persian style with a a recurve thrown in like the Vandermeulen homicide. My only issue with recurves is ease of sharpening. I usually just end up using my drop point knives the most because of ease of sharpening.

I typically carry two knives , of different blade shapes , because they excel at different tasks . I love a hollow ground anything , especially a wharn/foot , for their slicing ability, and a drop/clip for their piercing ability. To me , a tanto combines the best of both , and adds scraping ability , so I carry a tanto the most . Not a big fan of cleavers , for esthetic reasons, but I do love their tall blades as a flat grind , for their cardboard destroying capabilities. I have a Huntsman that I honestly find kinda weird to use , other than on cardboard or package opening, but it's just so damn cool , I carry it a lot anyway. That's the main quality that gets a knife into my collection , and into my pocket. It's gotta be cool . That's why I got into knives in the first place. They're really cool . Ramble .

I refuse to buy or carry spyderco knives. 2 reasons. 1. They are simply hideous. There is no reason to carry a knife that i don't enjoy and i find them all grotesque. 2. They fix nothing on their knives. Their clip has been horrible for 30 years and they still do nothing to address it. Why buy a $200 knife then has to spend $30 more to get a working clip? Makes no sense and just shows a lack of respect for their clientele.
