Sorry about forgetting Hockey skates, we had to carry a bunch of skates to the filming spot and one was bound to be forgotten. You guys know we have experience with hockey skates. They're Ricardo's preferred skate and we also Ice skate on this channel. So here's our summary of them in the comments below for anyone interested in picking up a pair. DO NOT COMMENT ON THIS THREAD. I DONT WANT IT TO GET CLUTTERED. ALL COMMENTS WILL BE REMOVED. THANK YOU

Hockey Skates are design for Roller Hockey which means they must be light and agile while also being strong and armored
@BINY_Channel4 жыл бұрын
-The Boot: The hockey skate boot is totally unique, being a direct transfer from ice hockey. It's a cuff less skate. It also has an integrated liner. They are also light weight. The support it provides is very unique but closest to a freestyle skate. The support and flex provided by a hockey skate is related not only to the boot, but the tongue and lacing. The hockey boot has no straps or buckles and relies entirely on lacing. Because of this the laces run from above the toes to the top of the boot. There are many lace holes an laces are waxed, which plays a major role in adjusting the fit and feel. They provide lots of ankle mobility for speed and agility. They're designed to be strong and rigid as they will take direct hits from hockey pucks and sticks. This can be seen at the hard Toe Cap and tall Achilles Tendon Protector on the back of boot. They are notorious for their break in period which can be difficult.
@BINY_Channel4 жыл бұрын
-The Frames: Hockey frames are mounted very differently from every other inline skate. The mounting method is the same ice hockey boots. They are riveted on to the boot at 14 points. The benefit to this is that they can withstand greater forces without shifting or coming off. 165 mounts found on other skates can shift from all the constant sprinting and hard stops in hockey. The downside is that swapping frames isn't a simple process, so most people take their skates to shop to do so. Hockey frames have a raised heel in the back to pitch you forwards for a speed stance (this does not apply to goalie frames) Frames can come flat (even wheels) or in a high low setup (rear two wheels large than front two) You can also rocker the front wheel up for increased maneuverability.

Excellent video guys! I'm from an aggressive skating background but have been getting really into distance / urban skating lately. With the whole pandemic thing going on a lot more people in my area from the trails to the skateparks have been asking me what skates to get to either cover some distance, slow roll with young children, and even a few looking to throw down at the skatepark. I kindly reply "well it depends on what you wanna do and how much you're able to spend". This video does an amazing job explaining the different styles of inline skating and the product differences between the different facets. I try my best to explain the differences but its kind of hard without having every product on me at once. I'll def be sending people a link to this video from here on out. Thanks! - Aaron

Wow thank you so much for a detailed explanation! I'm a total beginner, no experience at all. But I intend to learn and keep skating to get around the city so I feel like an urban/free skate would suit me so much. There arent many skaters in my area so I'm kinda learning and starting out on my own. You guys are a big help!

well said .. for heavy 100kg + and tall people the cuff and base are critical ... so most cheaper skates or soft shells .. they just dont work thats rarely mentioned by reviewers who r more light weight !

Detailed, I enjoyed it. I'm an old skater, so calling ABEC 3 or 5 mediocre hurts. My skates came with abec1.. 3 and 5 were considered a huge upgrade and for someone to have abec 7 was suuuuper rare and they were running Bont and had a shit ton of money.

After six months of using macroblade soft boots I am starting to consider a pair of hard shell boots, it feels like I have reached the limit with recreational boots.
@Shawn-wt4kh4 жыл бұрын
@Derek Simmons You'd only really perform better at the things hard boots are best at: tricks, jumps, stairs, etc. If I were doing long distance or skating purely for fitness, then I'd take a soft boot any day of the week. Although it depends on what soft boot. The Macroblade 110s are pretty nice. The Zetrablades? A little too entry-level.

i was driving soft boot blades from 12 years old till 16 years old when i finally changed to hard shell boots and i have to say they are still comfy as the soft ones if you chose a 1 size bigger than you currently have. im currently considering buying rb 80's pro and move another step forward and i hope you find yours 😎

Great video and good info, was looking for information about the other options beside aggressive skates and learned alot here even after 15 years of skating! Aggressive skates with a big wheel UFS frame are called powerblades, they can be fun in a bowl or for jumping big gaps. Urban/Freeskate frames are to stiff for big gaps and they break, yet I do like the urban skates more for a skate around the city.

You know, it is the internet, and people love correcting other, but there is a marathon skate with liner, which is the 2019 Powerslide World Cup. It is super awesome: It comes standard with a 2nd Skin liner on a carbon base, and 3x125 wheels. You can replace it, I actually skate mine with an, I kid you not, USD basic liner from my old Sway, because my ankle can't bear harder liners. So basically it is a carbon rec/fitness skate for me, whit what I do long distances.

Do any inline skates come with a more rounded toe box or at least a wider boot for people who do not want to develop bunions(dislocation of big toe) or people who are already trying to heal/strengthen their feet from a bunion? I'm frustrated by the whole narrow toe box shoes/skates, as are many people struggling with strengthening their feet. Many online shopping do not show the skate from that top angle so we could see how wide/narrow the boot is on the foot. So frustrating!!

@@BINY_Channel It is all good. You really expand ones knowledge. Greatly appreciated. Hockey skates, Bauer's, CCM, and/or Mission. Mission boots are fantastic. Probably the best boot. I'd rather spend more on footwear/skates because you only have 1 pair of feet. Saving up for a pair of good urban skates. Need a hard boot to protect ankles. The Freestyle skate you guys alluded to look solid too, but am not completely certain as the cuff of the boot (that is what it is called, right?) appears to be too flexible. Thanks a ton for your guys' effort in putting this together. Would love to ride with you guys when I am in NY. Need skates though. Maybe this decade they'll be available again.

When your foot is on the larger side you should consider frame length also. You can get a 4x80/90 at longer frame lengths , which will space out the wheels more making it a better fit to your boot size. Don't go bigger wheel but rather longer frame
@Casual_BackPacking Жыл бұрын
Not mentioned , hockey skates have a lot of ankle room because in hockey they wear shin pads the shin pad runs from the top of the ankle up the shin and covers the knee , the shin pad while on the person fits inside the top part of the skate wear the laces can wrap around the top of the boot and shin pad providing extra support if needed. Otherwise the hockey skate gives no ankle support.

As a 48 year old who began skating 13 months ago and has skated 3 to 6 times a week every single week for a total of 1000 to 1100 miles since I began on an entry level Rollerblade Zetrablade skates the number one thing I hate about these are the velcro 45 degree straps. I need a buckle. I think 4 by 80 to 4 by 90 freeskates are exactly what I want. I have swapped out the soft wheels for 85As that last 4 times as long on my mostly asphalt usage. My biggest issue in a new purchase is I have short and wide feet and no stores around my area to assist me other than Dicks which only had 2 different models of Rollerblades and no one who knew anything about skating at all to help. I had to get 1 and 1/2 size bigger on my skates to make it work and they were still too narrow giving me off and on nerve pain until I made an adjustment to the laces (skipped 1 hole on the outer side of the widest part of my foot) and added some additional foam padding inside. For a hard shell I am probably going to have to get a pair that support at least some ability to do heat molding.

I’m in my late 20’s and never tried skating before but want to play roller hockey eventually. That said, should I go for hockey skates or something else until I get used to skating?

I didn't cover hockey skates in this video (I forgot to bring a pair, there was alot to carrry) but I did pin a comment covering the details below. If you ultimate plan to play roller hockey then you should get hockey skates.

I've had my hockey rollerblade for two years now I bought it because I've tried a beginner rollerblade and I didn't like how it felt, it was so soft and it couldn't support me like the hockey skates. So the problem with hockey rollerblade is that i can only use it to a short distance and my feet would hurt already if I don't stop for a break. so I'm thinking of buying a new rollerblade and thanks to you guys Now i have an idea of what i want. I think I'm gonna be going with the urban skates.
