I used to play Ping Eye 2+. I couldn't fade them, so I ordered Cleveland TA-3 blades with less offset. I later switched back to Ping Eye 2+ for the forgiveness on off-center hits. I may try i-10's next. Feel/distance/work-ability is everything! 🏌️

I agree this past March I went on Ebay and purchased an entire set of Cleveland 588 MT's 4 -DW for only $160 U.S. Dollars. This set was only hit two times on a driving range and looked brand new. The Traction 85 gram shafts were lighter than I was accustomed to since I previously were using True Temper X95's but after a couple holes I quickly gained confidence. This is by far the best set of irons I've ever owned or hit. And I dissagree with one comment from this video. I can easily use the 588 MT 4 Iron and control its trajectory even though its a hollow body, large soled iron. It's simply about putting the ball further back into your stance and then having an abbreviated follow thru.

Good video and I really like what you say about bringing in your own clubs to compare if you are looking for a new set. I worked at one of those "chain stores" you mention and it was the first thing id ask, "do you have your clubs with your, go get your 7iron/Don't have them, bring them in next time before you make decision". The majority of the time would "sell them their own clubs!"=no advantage with a new set vs. their own. And we had no incentive to sell one manufacturer vs. another...

I'm always looking for new irons because I believe they're not the right spec BUT I love them because the distances I get are 100% carry because they're High Launch. LOVE IT

I find distance control more consistent on my mp52 forged irons than game improvement cavity backs. The sweet spot is smaller but it seems that it is much more accurate as I don't get a long flyer when hit flush as I did on my old cavity backs, (titleist DTR) Also the smaller head and sharper leading edge can help attacking a ball in the rough as it cuts through easier. I believe that if you are a good ball striker and hit ball first and take a divot, even if you are a high handicapper you may enjoy and play well with forged irons especially if they have some game improvement attributes in their design. Also forged heads can be changed for lie and loft.

I watched another video, maybe newer, maybe older, but I agree that we all need to put our money in lessons than in new clubs. If we would spend that $1000 a new set of irons cost, but put it into lessons, we would be so much farther ahead in our game. New clubs are just that. New clubs. Does not mean a better score. Lessons will be more apt to reduce our scores much quicker than new clubs.

One of the best sets of irons i ever bought Peter was a second hand set of Callaway X22 Tour. They were amazing. Looking at getting custom fitted soon for either Titleist AP2 or CB irons. Eagerly awaiting to see your review on the new Titleist 917D driver when it comes out in November.

Peter, just brought some second hand excellent condition the Callaway fusion irons. £90! were £899 brand new in that year. Could you look at comparison of irons & drivers? Also picked up a Callaway FT5 driver £25 doest even looks used looked after so well and it drives the ball a loooooong way! Would like to see you perhaps demonstrate or describe etc the excellent value of second hand equipment as starting golf can seem expensive! But reviewing second hand clubs could help beginners and budget equipment? Many thanks great clips & tips you provide on your channel is great and enjoy your work.

You aren't lying about the box stores trying to "sell" you a club that has higher margins, or they want to get rid of. I went into my local fitting shop and never talked to them about trying a certain club as I had it dialed to two I really liked. They brought me out a Callaway Apex forged iron to hit and told me it was the greatest.....offered me a bunch of deals.....I went back a week later and a different guy was working with me and I told him I just want to hit these two Mizuno's and the P770 from TaylorMade. He came out 20 minutes later with that same club and told me it was the best club out there. What a joke, the clubs I ended up buying(not from them) were the clubs they didn't want to sell and the guys kept telling me they were too expensive(translating to they weren't going to make enough money off of them).

book a fitting with a ping fitter, get your colour codes sorted and shop for that spec 2nd hand, I got a set of s58 my spec for £140, then found another set with project x shafts for £80 (these were £600 backin the day, angel cabrerra won masters with em) old but absolutely gorgeous to hit. Also get replacement grips off the same auction site and fit em yourself (youtube it, its a doddle). as far as your hands are conerned their new clubs

I am hitting the old ping eye 2 blue dots and still pounding my 6 iron out to an average of 195 yards. Went to a local chain store for a club comparison after hearing all the new technology would add 20 yards to every club and let's just say don't believe the hype. The newest most talked about iron that is just so long it's unbelievable was 20 yards shorter on my best shot. And I also did a driver comparison because my current driver is 10 plus years old now and I figured it's time to upgrade. On the simulator my driver was around 305 average in 10 shots. The newest hottest drivers were 284 and the new epic I couldn't even manage to get out passed 274. Needless to say, I'm sticking to my old ping eye 2 irons and I'll keep piping my McGregor vfoil driver for a few more years unless something changes.

New ping I-blades vs Titleist AP2, which is better for a 7-10 handicap ?
@swagbro11966 жыл бұрын
Cody Gibbons I’m a 10, I play the p790. They are hreat irons. I usually hit my 7 175-180. But as to iblades vs ap2, it all depends on the player. I know a 7 handicap who plays ping g irons (he’s on my high schools varsity team). I also have a kid on my jv team who plays blade irons. It is all based on feel and confidence

What are your thoughts on turf interaction, with regards to the sole width. I play golf in South Texas and it's very hot this time of year and there's a lot of hard pan (lots of clay in the soil) and very little rain. In the fall and winter, the ground is softer due to more rainfall. Which clubs would be ideal for these conditions?
@gerryuretsky92287 жыл бұрын
From a fellow SouthTexan, you have to have "turf" in order to have "turf interaction." So, when playing on hardpan, you have none. So, play a wide-sole iron that glides along the top of the hardpan, beginning at the ball location, instead of trying to take a divot and risking injury to your hand, wrist and/or arm.

Something to take into consideration if buying second-hand clubs, is that if you get forged irons, you can still take them to your local pro and get them "custom fit" for loft and lie etc.
@holyeti35537 жыл бұрын
How does that work mate ?
@TIMEtoRIDE9007 жыл бұрын
They take a big wrench and bend the hosel in a vice.
@alanwaterworth64647 жыл бұрын
HOLY ETI, as TimetoRIDE900 said, yeah, they basically bend the hosel a bit to fit your swing. When you have your swing checked the pro will put tape on the face and sole of the club to check where you are striking the ball, and on the sole you will see where the sole hits the ground; so then they can adjust it so the strike is centred.

@kvgolfa8 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's low spinning "because of the loft". It's because of the CG placement. A low CG causes high launch as well as low spin
@HyunRalphJeong8 жыл бұрын
Lower loft generates less spin. Within a same set, a 4 iron would obviously generate less spin than a 9 iron. That has nothing to do with CG placement.

To be fair I got fitted at my local american golf and they were awesome. I went on 2 different days testing all the irons i was interested in for free inc range balls, then had a fitting inc trackman for about 1-1.5hrs, then I came back 3 times and tested the 2 iron sets that came out best from my fitting. The final choice was actually made by me, after conversations with the pro I was never under any pressure to buy anything. To top it off I found a great deal on the irons that included a special deal for that month at another shop went into my american golf and they matched it. Great service.

If cavity backs are more difficult to shape, why do I see so many high handicappers with the chunkiest irons ever made, slice and hook off the planet? Are you saying that with blades they would slice and hook even more? I doubt that.

I'm saying they are easier to control ball flight and spin. You can still hit hooks and slices with any club
