R.I.P my great granddad Paul E. Carter (1935-2009). He was such an outstanding man. He served in Korea and the air force. He also had a Remington he loved a lot and he was a darn good shot with it. This song makes me think of him a lot

Shelton's version is good, but Lewis's version has a personal tone to it that always sends a chill down my arms every time I hear it. IMO, Aaron Lewis's version is more memorable because of that.

Beautiful song. Reminds me of a gun that was my grandfather's and he gave it to me when I joined the Air Force (he's still alive). It was the first shot I took in my life when I was 18. My kids will definitely shoot with it too. It is a bolt-action 22 LR rifle manufactured here in Brazil in the 1960s.

I love this song, I was given my 12 ga. When I started deer hunting 25 yrs ago, it was my grandpa's Stevens tru-test double barrel 12ga. He would let others use throughout the years one family friend was using it bird hunting once and pulled both triggers at once dropping it to the ground put a crack in the stock. I hear this song and it puts a big smile on my face as it's so true about my double barrel 12 given to me to use and respect and cherish. Thank you for such a touching song.

Never met my grandpa. He died when my dad was 9 back in 1987 in a train wreck in Greensboro, NC. He was all about hunting and fishing, and my dad inherited half of his guns. He gave me his Remington 700 .270 his daddy bought for him, and my grandpas 28 gauge Remington 1100. My grandma says he would be proud of me for being an outdoorsman and I wish every day I would have met him, to share memory’s with him
