M12 extended ratchet, new m12 stubby and a metric set of impact sockets stay in my ride. The ratchet and the stubby are my favorite tools I own.

Nice ! I ordered the new stubby in 1/2 planning to use an adapter for 3/8 just Incase, 550 ft/lb is crazy I just got Milwaukees new mid torque and it’s a beast, can’t wait for this new stubby to arrive !

U can only get 550 with a M12 5.0 HO battery. Torque reduces when u don't use it

Exactly, he needs that HO 5.0 just to take advantage of the tools peak torque numbers

I'm actually getting the 1/2 version for now mainly because I'm in the opposite boat. My old 3/8 Stubby is my workhorse, but the heavier mass of 1/2 sockets does make a difference on larger fasteners, especially while using an extension. Yes, I can use a 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter, but a dedicated 1/2 Stubby is the way to go. I was going to get the DeWalt DCF921 for that reason, but not anymore. I'll eventually pick up a Gen 3 3/8 with the extra beans though. 👍🏻 Thanks for the review.

Yeah, it’s funny. I got the three eights mid torque and I have to say that one started becoming my work horse for sure. Most of my half-inch stuff I really don’t pull out until I’m using high torque. That’s just because I need all the beans when something doesn’t come off with a small ones.

@@BlakesGarage LOL, I'm the opposite of you. I have both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 1/2 Midtorque, plus the High Torque. I pretty much only use them for tire rotations or on rare fasteners that my 3/8 stubby can't remove. Since you now have a bad mama jama Gen 2 3/8, you might not have the same need. I'm the neighborhood shade tree KZbin-certified mechanic, so I'm always wrenching on all types of vehicles. Having the option to use the 1/2 stubby with midtorque power in tight spaces that require a swivel socket, which my 3/8 can't remove, is going to be awesome! BTW, those brake bleeders 🔧 are pretty dope 👍🏻.

The 3/8th made more torque than the 1/2 one. There’s no reason to get the 1/2
@johnny4713ify
@johnny4713ify 4 ай бұрын
@@rayc5916 Do you have a 3/8" stubby? It's great for most jobs with regular 3/8" impact sockets, but there are times when it's not enough, especially when you're using wobble sockets or extensions. In those situations, I have to pull out my mid-torque impact wrench to break the fasteners loose. That's why I'm getting the 1/2" version. I already know that when using those types of adapters in limited space, the extra torque and weight will make a difference in breaking fasteners free. Yes, I could add a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter, but even then, there are situations where that setup won’t work. If I had a regular 1/2" stubby, it would fit just fine. Since I already have the Gen 1 3/8", I'm planning to pick up the Gen 2 1/2" first, and then later I'll get the Gen 2 3/8". I work on multiple vehicles daily, so having both will work for me.

I like this little beast. The only compromise they made to fit the bigger motor was losing the mode change buttons. I do change modes for delicate fasteners. I can live with the mode change for the bonus of turning lug nuts with a 3/8. Yeah, it's a battery burner but who uses full beans with the little battery?

That was for the old model, no signs of that being true for this model. And even if that is true for the new ones released a 1/2 socket will usually be able to transfer it better and have less chance of stuff breaking.

Is the 3/8 gonna be good for taking rims off at 140 ft pounds 75% of the time or should i just go 1/2? Other 25% will be brakes and other small maintenance.

Can the sockets you used on the 3/8 impact possibly scratch the wheels?

Nothing wrong with using an impact wrench on 6mm bolts (although it does seem kind of silly), so long as you're removing and not installing them. Even with the auto-off tighten mode you could snap those bolts. If you work with a lot of these tiny bolts you should use an impact driver with nut driver bits, on the lowest setting, or an electric screwdriver at low torque if it's settable. Even an electric ratchet could snap those little guys. But anyone thinking of getting this tool isn't messing much with 6mm bolts, of course. Btw my nearly 3 year old 3/8" M12 stubby is showing its age and appears to have lost some upper range torque. If I take it in for a warranty check are they offering to upgrade to Gen2 for a certain fee?

I use 1/2 inch more often on a stubby as I usually want to get it in somewhere small. If I need more torque or a bigger socket like 1/2 I will most likely step up to a Mid torque or high torque.

@@crunkwun I've been using my 3/8 stubby for years now and have experimented with different socket arrangements and adapters. The 3/8 just gets a little extra boost when you add mass/weight by using a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter on fasteners. You'll quickly notice the power loss when using 3/8 swivel sockets or extensions. For that reason, having a dedicated 1/2 stubby for when you need the most power and have no room for adapters is why I'm picking up the 1/2 version this time around.
