So the moment "pretty face" was mentioned, I was immediately reminded of the "cursed" images that came out of the "make me cute" challenge on 2chan. Basically, 2channers would take a minority creepy image and make creepy edits to it. People would then edit eachother's edits until something universally, memetically creepy emerges through natural selection and the original image is totally lost.

I believe he lied about it because he licenses merch off the Jeff character when bought with a deal. For example, Spirit Halloween makes Jeff The Killer masks. They must’ve had to have gotten his permission and he must’ve got a size of the dough for it. BUT if it ever came out that the image was previously copyrighted material not owned by him, or its of someone's likeness that can sue, he would be in potentially a bit of legal trouble. That day, I was looking for something surprising or funny to not be bored and that picture did the exact opposite and made me fearful and unsettled. I felt into some KZbin commenter's trap once. He encouraged some KZbinr (and ofc other people reading their comment) to check an agar.io clone by the name of Agorio (with a dot before "io"). Unfortunately, it was a fricking Jeff the Killer screamer. Loud as heck, changing between normal and inverted colors. It was really traumatizing. Or an in-between, something like a soap opera and the screenshot is of the actress breaking character right before a jump cut? You never know.

I think the image being called "prettyFACE" doesn't have much to do with the slit mouth woman. What I immediately thought of was the Make Me Cute meme that shows a scary doll and challenged 2chan users to make her "cute," which often led to her being photoshopped to look even scarier. Maybe the Jeff image comes from a similar thread. Alternatively, from my limited knowledge of 2chan, posting the image as a "photo of a pretty girl" as a joke seems to entirely fit the vibe of the website.

I think it's highly underestimated how volatile digital, and especially online, data can be. The more time it passes, the harder it is to search stuff, between data storage failures, link rot, and whole companies shutting off their servers after years of service and throwing their drives who knows where. I had been thinking so for a long time, but the Internet Archive really is a boon in that regard. If only the staff at the Internet Archive could provide a search engine function that could search inside of the archive pages' text, it would make it perfect. Now being in my 20s seeing this thumbnail made my heart drop a little. The picture of Jeff the Killer traumatized my middle school years and physically made me unable to sleep when I first read the story. I’m not sure what it is about the picture but the eyes stared into my soul. Since forgetting it in nearly a decade I guess I finally grew up because this video was great and really informative. honestly EJ and Jeff have the creepiest images. the way EJ just... leans over you is just so unsettling, and makes you feel like you are infact lying in bed, looking up at a horrible demon, and it also makes you wonder what happens next? did he kill you instantly or did you look at each other for a while? when I was nine that picture scared me so badly I had to stay with my mum in her bed for like a week. neither Jeff or Jack have the best stories, but what fans did with them is spectacular.

Gonna be honest, Jeff the Killer was the first image on the internet I can remember genuinely spooking me and keeping me up at night. But I've seen it so many times that I've become desensitized to it. Green-eyed Jeff respooked me for a moment. I know it's likely an alteration of the original, but it's not like the original isn't some sort of image that itself was manipulated as well.

by the way, kamikoto knives are made from the cheapest stainless steels available. They're legit ripping you off with that pricing lol. The type of steel has a lot of chromium in it, which means it's better at not rusting, but, it also means the metal is "softer", which means it doesn't stay sharp as easily. Looking back, I can’t believe this image scared me as a kid. It’s the cheesiest shock image I have ever seen: Giant eyes, glasgow grin and ghostly white face. Now that I’m better exposed to horror, I’ve seen much scarier, better faces (Sleepaway Camp and Ju-On: The Grudge come to mind). That being said, you can’t deny how iconic the Jeff the Killer image is, and the fact it is still being discussed today proves the impact it has had on internet culture and our generation.

This mystery about the original Jeff the Killer image feels more captivating then the original creepypasta story itself. Also, the theory about how Jeff and the Pretty Face image being possibly partly inspired by the Slit Mouthed Woman urban legend makes a lot of sense; both of them are facially scared with a grin, both have a running line about asking their victims if they’re beautiful, and both the Slit Mouthed Woman and the early version of the Jeff the Killer Story have a supernatural Bloody Mary quality to them. In a way, Jeff the Killer is basically the edgy Americanised version of Slit Mouthed Woman. 😂

The saddest part is...people actually do end their lives due to bullying. I cannot stress this enough: if you or someone you know has been through this, don't give up. If there is one thing I've learned, it's this: there will always be people who say mean things because you are different. And sometimes their minds cannot be changed. But there are many more people who don't judge people based on how they look or where they came from. Those are the people whose words truly matter.

A few things that I would like to get off my chest here: 1.) It’s great to hear from you again. 2.) Knowing that Heather White is alive & well is good to know. 3.) The picture of Jeff being based on the Slit-Mouthed Woman makes sense, given how it came from Japan, & the Slit-Mouthed Woman is a well-known Japanese picture. 4.) Sesseur really lied his way through the origins of the picture. 5.) The Green-Eyed Jeff is arguably scarier than the more well-known picture. 6.) I remember Goose Boose showing two pictures on his video about this topic, including a picture showing an unedited version of the Jeff picture, complete with normal eyes & a visible nose. 7.) I’m honestly waiting for the video where the completely unedited picture of Jeff to be found, along with the supposed third image. 8.) Considering how you did a video on Gloomy Sunday, I wonder if you’ll do other videos on music topics. I know, the final thing wasn’t related to the video, I’m just interested.
