It's an Abba classic... But this version is just epic, so well sung by Neil... and of course a great musical accompaniment by Stephen

Pure, pure, pure magic. Great melody, great rhythm, great lyric, great concept- coming alive when love walks in the door. When everything before was unmemorable. And I like the way the lads updated it slightly with Dallas and Barbara Cartland. And there's just enough humour in the video too. First class.

Pop stardust sprinkled on 1984 by Blancmange with this sparkling homage to Abba. One of the greatest tracks of the eighties overlooked with its lowly chart position on release. It's got everything to complement the Abba version-haunting backing, soaring keyboards and enigmatic vocals by Neil capturing the mystery of the lyrics. Both versions are sublime creations and the song hints at how much more Abba could have done with the new technology of the era. They left on a high note with this and Under Attack and Blanmange did them proud.

Blancmange did the best cover of this song ever, and the video was made even better by Agnetha's appearances in it. So moving.

When I first arrived in KL and walked into my hotel room, this video came on the TV. I had the song on cassette tape, but didn't know there was a video and certainly didn't expect it to be the first thing I'd see in Asia. Made me feel less of a Stranger, and sense the connectedness and common sympathies of people around the world. That was a long time ago, and the song still moves me.

I think I agree with you Shaggy. Blancmange tapped into the hidden potential of this song. I love Abba, and Indian style music (George Harrison, Kula Shaker etc) and this song marries the 2 perfectly. Well done Blancmange!

Brilliant - just brilliant. The song wasn't in the charts for long and I actually missed the video when it was shown TV. I was so annoyed! Saw it years later on one of those 80's VHS complilation videos.

I never heard this single until now, though read about it again and again in British music mags and papers. What a great cover. There is something very fitting about this - ABBA was the first major Europop band, and Blancmange really was one of the second generation greats ( though never got much recognition). Thanks PimpinBassie2 for posting this.

swordscott, I was a big fan of Abba before I was a big fan of Blancmange, and I love this cover (I didn't like the original song that much). The point I'm trying to make is that it doesn't matter who the "trendy people" consider naff. It's possible to appreciate Abba and bands like Blancmange at the same time.

abba was pure genius, but most were fed up in the 80s with them, diff sounds, diff times... although their production really took a new deeper step with their last album, more synths, too bad we will never know what was more to come, anyway, 80s was the best times to live...the proof is there...
