Candi has that rare type of R&B vocal, like Gladys Knight's that perfectly encapsulates heartbreak, Etta (James) had it too... and as a listener you know that all three lived through and knew tough times, its real, pure emotion and can't be faked. A fabulous but criminally unsung artist.

In my opinion, Candi and Gladys Knight are within the same caliber of voices. They sound quite alike; and are both excellent singers.
@PeacefulBrother337 ай бұрын
Agreed, their voices are somewhat similar.
@handling-m4m6 ай бұрын
@@PeacefulBrother33 Yes. It would've been quite a delightful dessert for my ears, to have heard them both singing on the same song, or even a couple of songs, back when they were young; and their voices were extremely strong. However, with today's technology, I'm sure that it can actually be done, but not like it could've been when they were in their prime and actually working together in the studio; and on stage. Whew! That would've been epic!
@JayCKalhoun6 ай бұрын
Very similar, Candi's voice is a bit lighter in timbre, as well as her tessitura is higher, mezzo, Gladys Contralto. They both have soul that just can't be taught, or duplicated, you know you're gonna feel any song they approach. I always felt Keisha Cole had a sound reminiscent of Ms Statons especially in her debut album on the early 2000s.

1977 When New York was hip, dangerous, dark, cool, decadent, hedonistic and party time and sexually and sensually over charged men and women, taking advantage of the new spirit of sexual permissiveness anything goes of the late 1960s and 1970s and creative. Its always been my image of New York. That is the world of late 1970s Saturday Night Fever, Studio 54,Liza Minelli and this video just captures that New York well. I have been to New York a couple of times as a tourist. Interesting that back then Broadway time square had cars and traffic running on it. Gave it more character than today.

It's so funny how The Bee Gees gave away and created several songs like this one so that they became bigger and more famous in another form than the song was in its original version by them. The Beatles did the same with several of their songs so it's obviously a well established phenomenon when you are a super talented song writing powerhouse like The Gib brothers or Lennon and McCartney.

A little part of history this song: NIGHTS ON BROADWAY Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb album cut by Bee Gees, 1975; A side by Bee Gees, September 1975 Bee Gees Barry Gibb - vocal, guitar Robin Gibb - vocal Maurice Gibb - vocal, guitar, bass Blue Weaver - piano, keyboard, synthesizer Alan Kendall - guitar, steel guitar Dennis Bryon - drums Joe Farrell - sax Ray Baretto Donny Brooks - harmonica orchestra arranged by Arif Mardin; concertmaster Gene Orloff engineer: Karl Richardson (Criteria), Lew Hahn (Atlantic) producer: Arif Mardin January and February 1975, Criteria Recording Studios, Miami; undated, Atlantic Recording Studios, New York NIGHTS ON BROADWAY Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb (1975) 20, 30 January 1975 stereo (slow) 4:31, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb Main Course, 1975 stereo (fast, edit) 2:52, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb A side, September 1975 stereo (fast) 4:25, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb Tales from the Brothers Gibb, 1990 ‘Nights on Broadway’ was the first song with some falsetto vocal by Barry, just some backing vocal in the chorus. But did he record that now, or ten days later? January 30 might be more likely. But the basic tracks certainly have a nice funk beat, and the hard-hitting main song contrasts well with a quieter harmony section. This was a landmark recording for the Bee Gees. They had finally broken through to the rhythm and blues sound they loved. ‘Nights on Broadway’ was edited for radio by removing the slow section, just to bring it to a more acceptable length of 2:52. It was also speeded up- or was it? The version on Tales from the Brothers Gibb is also faster than the album, and fades a little later despite a 4:25 running time. That appears to be the correct speed. If so then ‘Nights on Broadway’ was slowed down for the album, presumably to make ‘Jive Talkin’’ sound faster by contrast. By Joseph Brennan
